[00:00:28] All right, I'm gonna be kind of be I'm gonna be all over the place in this hour. I'm gonna

[00:00:33] kind of go bouncing all around between a bunch of different topics this hour just because

[00:00:38] I got a lot of little scraps they don't really tie together and I always try to tie

[00:00:43] the show and the content together like hour to hour but also over the over the entire

[00:00:50] three hours and usually never successful but I try just for the record I try so did you

[00:00:57] know that today is the 248th anniversary or birthday anniversary of the Halifax Resolves

[00:01:10] did you know that if you are new to North Carolina or maybe you've never looked at

[00:01:15] the North Carolina flag too closely which I totally get it's not like it's not the coolest

[00:01:20] of the flags of the states and I don't mean that I'm not trying to denigrate the flag

[00:01:24] or anything I'm just saying you know there are some flags that look cooler than others

[00:01:29] like South Carolina's flag is a pretty cool looking flag North Carolina flag not so

[00:01:34] much it's kind of your it's like like me personally not a fan of the Maryland flag

[00:01:41] awful I think it's terrible I just hate it anyway on the North Carolina flag there are

[00:01:49] a couple of dates and one of them is April 12th because that's when the Halifax Resolves

[00:01:58] which preceded the Declaration of Independence was drawn up a document unique to North Carolina

[00:02:06] it helped to catalyze the American call for independence and it secured North Carolina's

[00:02:10] spot as a first in freedom state that's why we got that on the license plates as well

[00:02:17] the Halifax Resolves was a resolution it was adopted by the fourth provincial Congress

[00:02:24] of the province of North Carolina we weren't even a state the Resolves were simply entered

[00:02:31] into the congressional minutes and as such are not signed documents there's no signatures on

[00:02:38] there which was probably beneficial so they didn't have anybody's name to go after and you

[00:02:42] know murder them for signing it after adoption the secretary of the Congress James Green sent

[00:02:48] copies of the Resolves to the North Carolina delegation assembled with the Second Continental

[00:02:53] Congress in Philadelphia for execution the colonial assemblies desired self-governing status within

[00:03:01] the British Empire in early 1776 however North Carolina was an exception the Halifax Resolves

[00:03:09] ordered North Carolina's delegation to the second Continental Congress in Philadelphia not

[00:03:15] only to form foreign alliances but also to seek and vote for independence from Great Britain

[00:03:23] that was in the Resolves this action made North Carolina the first of the colonial governments

[00:03:30] to call for total independence as such it became a factor leading to the writing of

[00:03:37] the Declaration of Independence which was adopted on July 4th 1776 this is a piece

[00:03:44] at the Carolina Journal by Catherine Zender with a quote from with several quotes from

[00:03:49] Dr. Troy Kickler who is a senior fellow and managing director of the North Carolina history

[00:03:55] curriculum project at the John Locke Foundation he's the founding director of the North

[00:03:59] Carolina History Project and he's the editor at NorthCarolinahistory.org and he points

[00:04:06] out notably the first battle in the war for independence do you know when that was you

[00:04:13] know what it was I always thought Lexington and Concord right or Concord Lexington and

[00:04:19] Concord Concord I don't even know I know you don't say the one here in North Carolina

[00:04:23] you don't say that Concord but that's because the Civil War you never say Concord Southern

[00:04:29] state but anyway February I kid I kid but so I think it's I think it's Concord up

[00:04:36] in New Hampshire right Lexington and Concord and or Concord it doesn't matter I always

[00:04:42] thought that was the first battle Moores Creek Bridge February 1776 that's where the wigs beat

[00:04:50] the loyalists the wigs were the patriots the loyalists were the pro-British people when

[00:04:57] the 4th Provincial Congress reconvened in Halifax on April 4th the victory was fresh

[00:05:03] on their minds and according to the North Carolina History Project a committee was

[00:05:07] created to explore further measures that should be taken to defend the colony against

[00:05:13] King George III and the Brits and preserve the status of the colony so that committee met

[00:05:19] for the first time on April 8th you had guys like Cornelius Harnett Alan Jones Thomas Burke

[00:05:27] Abner Nash right they were appointed as acting members and then four days later

[00:05:34] the committee submitted the Halifax Resolves for consideration to the Provincial Congress

[00:05:39] and by unanimous vote the Halifax Resolves empowered the delegates in Philadelphia to

[00:05:45] cooperate with delegates from other colonies to declare independence from Great Britain

[00:05:51] North Carolina says Dr. Troy Kickler North Carolina was the first colony to do that

[00:05:56] the Halifax Resolves were published and distributed throughout the colonies

[00:06:00] so people could follow the laudable example of the Halifax Resolves

[00:06:07] the historic document directed the state to declare independence join with other colonies

[00:06:13] and to reserve the right of North Carolina to create a constitution there are two copies of

[00:06:19] the resolves there's one at the federal level one of the state level the Provincial

[00:06:26] Congress unanimously adopted the resolves and then a copy went off to the Continental Congress

[00:06:32] by the way did you know there was a different tea party there was another tea party besides the

[00:06:40] one up in Boston did you know this it was an Edenton I had never heard this either

[00:06:48] 1774 October 25th 1774 the Edenton Tea Party one of the first political acts led by women in U.S.

[00:07:00] history it was at the home of Penelope Barker the wife of Thomas Barker who was the treasurer

[00:07:07] of the province of North Carolina and it is believed that Mrs. Barker convinced about 50

[00:07:12] women to stop drinking tea and buying English clothing and then they signed a petition

[00:07:22] okay right so they all right it is not quite as dramatic as the throwing of the tea into

[00:07:27] the water and all of that okay but you got to remember back then before the 1770s women just

[00:07:34] women did not sign petitions right it was unheard of and that was the that political action was a

[00:07:45] first was a political first so that's today 248 years ago the Halifax Resolves in North Carolina

[00:07:53] directing us to to break up with the UK with Britain it's not it's not you it's us

[00:08:01] we don't love you no more we're out um let's see oh how far we've come members of a country

[00:08:08] line dance team that was supposed to perform at a ho down in Seattle there's a lot wrong with that

[00:08:13] sentence um they uh they they got booted because they were wearing uh patriotic clothing the country

[00:08:22] line dance team called the borderline dance team they do country line dancing and they were

[00:08:27] set to perform at the emerald city ho down that was in Seattle last weekend and they were told

[00:08:39] they were not welcome because the organizer said that their American flag themed shirts

[00:08:45] were making some attendees feel quote triggered and unsafe

[00:08:55] really you are at

[00:09:00] you are at a country music line dancing ho down

[00:09:07] and it's the American flag that made you feel unsafe uh I mean sir or ma'am or they them uh

[00:09:14] this is a ho down it was right before the borderline dance team was to take the stage

[00:09:20] that the events organizers rain county dance association I guess rain county is a county in

[00:09:29] Washington I don't know I mean it makes sense unless that's like a joke like oh it's rain

[00:09:32] county because it always rains I don't know I've never been don't really care they effectively

[00:09:37] asked the military supporting dance group to leave the association describes itself as an

[00:09:44] LGBTQ plus nonprofit social dance organization driven by its members so the rain county dance

[00:09:51] association is an LGBTQ plus and apparently if you're LGBTQ plus uh the American flag is triggering

[00:09:58] the American flag makes you feel unsafe did you know that that's one of the sorry I guess that's

[00:10:02] one of the deals part of the deal if you're going to be part of the LGBTQ plus I don't know

[00:10:09] about the two uh IAs and whatever but for for those five letters and the plus like that's

[00:10:16] um that's one of the that's part of the deal you you cannot feel safe seeing red white and blue

[00:10:24] stars and bars um then there was a oh sorry the borderline dance co-founder Lindsey Stamp

[00:10:33] said that one of the rain county dance association's board members spoke on behalf

[00:10:38] of the organization explaining that it was a small number of convention goers who had expressed

[00:10:44] being upset over the uniforms those uniforms consisted of shirts with stars on one side

[00:10:50] and stripes on the other they were not official prints of the American flag even

[00:10:56] it was just stars and stripes on two different sides of the shirt I got a pretty good idea

[00:11:01] what this looks like too right on their facebook page the borderline dance group said

[00:11:09] they had several claims for this reasoning mostly associated with the situation in Palestine

[00:11:15] what so really okay and the trans community in America so so now LGBTQ plus means pro-palestine

[00:11:27] did you know this too sorry that's the deal also I guess you're now you got to be triggered and you

[00:11:33] got to feel unsafe by the stars and bars whenever you see it which is going to be difficult in

[00:11:38] America because heads up that flag is everywhere like that flag is on every building like made of

[00:11:43] marble every building made of like uh like the big columns and stuff yeah county buildings federal

[00:11:50] buildings all the buildings that the chas chop has not taken over yet or firebomb they all have

[00:11:56] that american flag on so my gosh I can't imagine walking down the street being triggered

[00:12:05] every single time you see that flag like you wouldn't get anywhere

[00:12:12] they say at first they were told that you know you're going to be booed yelled at and likely a lot

[00:12:16] of the audience would walk out and so the borderline dance company was like yeah we're fine with that

[00:12:22] so then they were told okay you got to remove your shirts and perform in street clothes

[00:12:28] which they were like we didn't bring street clothes we just drove here or

[00:12:33] we can uh the group or the organizers would give them some t-shirts from years past so you

[00:12:40] can wear these t-shirts or um you can not perform at all and so there were like see ya

[00:12:48] another team that was scheduled to dance at the convention also did not perform because they

[00:12:53] were also wearing red white and blue that was called the west coast country heat dancers

[00:13:00] so it's not even the stars and bars now it's just red white and blue colors you're not even allowed to

[00:13:06] wear the colors like I'm trying to think like oh my gosh

[00:13:14] giants fans are screwed right the new york football giants aren't those their colors what about

[00:13:20] those the guardians or whatever that the cleveland indians used to be called sorry the they are

[00:13:25] they are called now because they used to be yeah they used to be Atlanta braves aren't their colors

[00:13:29] red white and blue I can still say braves right they haven't renamed their team yet right okay

[00:13:36] these people are nuts the stars and stripes it's actually what I apparently I was saying

[00:13:42] stars I don't even know why I was saying stars and more stars and stripes

[00:13:46] then done to the dad all right yeah stars yeah the american flag colors is what the

[00:13:52] the line dancing troop was wearing in Seattle that got him kicked out of the event

[00:13:57] not the stars and bars that's apparently the uh it's the confederate flag which

[00:14:03] that would make a little bit more sense if you I'm not saying they should have I'm just

[00:14:09] saying it would make more sense than okay anyway yes so I apologize that was not correct

[00:14:17] let me get to some you know let me get to some messages before I do that I got to make sure I'm

[00:14:23] ready to go with uh Joe Bruno's series of here he is series of tweets there all right good um all

[00:14:30] right so I got some messages on various topics so yesterday you know we talked about sheriff

[00:14:34] gary not my fault McFadden um I got a bunch of responses on that and about how he was blaming

[00:14:41] these state jail inspectors for being racist and that's why they were targeting his jail

[00:14:45] not all the dead people that have been turning up in his jail that's not the reason why um no

[00:14:50] but and so he wants he wants to be able to like give the state the the better set of rules by which

[00:14:57] they should they should measure the mechlerwood county jail because whenever the state does it

[00:15:03] by their rules our jail doesn't come out looking so hot and so he doesn't like the negative

[00:15:11] press that he gets for that so he would like a different set of criteria that he wrote okay um

[00:15:19] so I've got some messages on this Cindy says thanks for doing the story on McFadden

[00:15:25] he has been operating under his own set of rules since he got elected he struts around

[00:15:29] like some mafia boss and he does not comply with other agencies whose job it is to keep us

[00:15:34] safe like ice I love how he reframes the concept of not obeying state law as him just

[00:15:41] trying to be different than other sheriff's departments time for him to go he doesn't

[00:15:45] care if he puts charlotte at risk if he gets likes from all the activist groups

[00:15:53] um right well his what is his incentive structure right he has different uh incentives

[00:16:04] than other sheriffs around the state do um let me say here someone should give McFadden a copy of his

[00:16:13] a copy of the book extreme ownership by jack o willing a former navy seal leader um let me say

[00:16:24] here do do do do um sorry just scrolling through trying to make sure I got everybody

[00:16:34] thank you the thank you for the oj compilation yesterday nor mcdonnell was a hero right and

[00:16:39] there are some people who don't understand the whole point of the uh the nor mcdonnell jokes

[00:16:46] I got one one emailer who was like you know that's not funny making fun of dead people like

[00:16:50] no it's it it's mocking oj simpson and the people that were giving him a pass um

[00:17:01] mary says in addition to what you said today about the hamas's propaganda war don't forget

[00:17:06] what one of its co-founders sons said in an interview recently that most palestinians are hamas

[00:17:12] yeah in case you're not aware that one of the the founding members of hamas had a son

[00:17:19] who was also in hamas but now has left hamas and has been going around doing speeches talking about

[00:17:25] what hamas is he's a powerful speaker um and he basically blows up the propaganda and the

[00:17:32] narratives that are being advanced about hamas by communists marxists leftists the uh you know the

[00:17:40] the ceasefire crowd the students for palestine justice and all that um

[00:17:49] oh latin x is officially pronounced latinx

[00:17:53] oh okay uh yeah well it's too late now they're retiring latinx for latins or latines um pretty

[00:18:02] sure they are unaware why the founders reject oh yeah that's from the yeah the stupid ashville

[00:18:07] bunkham league of women voters that's the name of the organization the stupid ashville bunkham

[00:18:13] league of women voters that no i kid i kid it's just legal women voters no i'm kidding no it's just

[00:18:19] the ashville bunkham league no they're like oh we need to do national vote national popular vote and

[00:18:23] all this stuff it's like no we don't have a national vote it was not we were not set up to

[00:18:29] have a national vote for president we have 50 state elections all in the same day that determines

[00:18:37] the presidency anyway um i had some emails to pete at the pete calendar show dot com right here's john

[00:18:45] stars and bars versus stars and stars and stripes refers to the american flag stars and bars refers

[00:18:51] to the confederate flag so you're probably getting quite a few people all riled up it's yeah that was

[00:18:56] not my intention um jay says it is amazing that there are so many people who do not know

[00:19:02] that there has never been a country called palestine so i don't capitalize it on purpose

[00:19:08] denise says thank you for covering the victor david hanson analysis earlier

[00:19:13] in my opinion he has always hit the nail on the head when it comes to us politics and the

[00:19:18] consequences we are all experiencing as a result you my friend are also on the top of my list

[00:19:23] of news personalities that see the truth that the rest of us deplorables are witnessing

[00:19:28] going to spend this weekend watching the masters and trying to escape from all the

[00:19:32] lionomics as carin jampier would say let me make myself clear look no it's good denise i appreciate

[00:19:40] the email uh and the kind words there it's always good uh to unplug you know take some time off

[00:19:47] um all this stuff will still be swirling right the poop storm will still be raging when you

[00:19:51] return he who stops to sharpen his axe cuts more wood um do do do do jim says um

[00:20:06] i can claim the same okay so i can claim this so there's a fella uh who was uh his name is

[00:20:14] dick stork born in the bronx 1942 the son of the late philip and marble or mabel stork he was raised

[00:20:22] in charlotte and became a naturalized southerner i think you can claim the same pete um i keep the

[00:20:31] station playing all the time in my house uh it's out of wake forest i just heard this not surprisingly

[00:20:36] his voice was distinctive so i guess he was uh oh he was a he was an announcer dick stork

[00:20:41] a naturalized southerner there you go well look i got here as soon as i could and i and i stayed

[00:20:48] now i was told when i first arrived by one of my old roommates who was from south carolina

[00:20:54] and by the way not for nothing just a heads up for all you north carolinians i think i'm you know

[00:20:58] i'm never going to be good enough because i'm from originally new york even though i came down

[00:21:01] here immediately um that people in south carolina think you guys are yankees too

[00:21:07] i'm not sure you're aware of this but uh i am aware of this because when i landed in south carolina

[00:21:12] that's what they told me and when i said well what if i you know marry a southern woman which i have

[00:21:18] but if i have kids would they be southerners and they said no i said well why not that doesn't

[00:21:24] make any sense if you're just basing it purely on geography of where i was born and they said

[00:21:28] well just because the cat has babies in the oven doesn't make them biscuits well that's fair

[00:21:35] i mean that that's and that's a fair point okay if you're listening to this podcast you are obviously

[00:21:41] paying attention to the world around us you also have really great taste i might add but if you haven't

[00:21:47] started getting prepared for various emergencies i gotta ask what are you waiting for please call

[00:21:52] my friends bill and jan at carolina readiness supply and they'll help get you started if you

[00:21:56] have no idea how to start they can help you if you're an experienced prepper they can help

[00:22:01] you to being prepared is just smart we've already established that you're smart i mean you listen to

[00:22:06] this podcast after all so let's put those smarts into action go to carolina readiness dot com

[00:22:13] that's carolina readiness dot com or call them at eight two eight two two six seventy two thirty

[00:22:19] nine carolina readiness supply has two thousand square feet of supplies as well as educational

[00:22:24] materials that you're going to need for any kind of emergency veteran owned carolina readiness

[00:22:29] supply will you be ready when the lights go out got more messages here okay wow okay scott this is

[00:22:37] like seven pages i'm gonna have to okay i'm gonna have to go read that later um this is from mike

[00:22:44] who says one has to wonder regarding sheriff mcfadden's uh explaining away all of his violations

[00:22:50] from the state um how about all those restaurants that mark garrison finds that earned the 89

[00:22:57] or 82 or even worse score on their routine inspections right how many inspectors take

[00:23:02] restaurant managers explanations into consideration and then change the inspection scores that's a

[00:23:09] great that is a great analogy right i worked in restaurants for like a decade and the inspector

[00:23:17] comes in and if he doesn't take the envelope of cash like whatever he's going to report you for

[00:23:22] no i'm kidding i'm just kidding oh well whatever he's going to write you up for or she's going to

[00:23:28] write you up for like there's no excuse for it like that's a violation right you got a bunch of

[00:23:35] dead cockroaches on your countertop there's no there's nothing you're gonna say there to be like

[00:23:41] well you don't really understand the blah blah blah blah no against the rule

[00:23:49] um to stance it i had to laugh at hearing uh garrison mcfadden a democrat complaining about

[00:23:57] media coverage bias yeah that was it is always it is always comical to me as well

[00:24:05] um kirk said the guy is full of

[00:24:11] stuff um

[00:24:16] you do do uh

[00:24:19] pete you were really riling up people today with the norm mcdonnell clips about oj's guilt

[00:24:24] i guess either people never heard uh the jurors or didn't understand the verdict had little to

[00:24:29] do with oj and then he gives me an audio clip of one of the jurors right yeah so yeah

[00:24:34] some people have not uh have not been happy uh with me playing the norm mcdonnell clips of the oj

[00:24:42] simpson coverage here's the thing during that trial and all and through the verdict and even afterwards

[00:24:48] right norm mcdonnell was one of the only people that sort of like regrounded everybody

[00:24:54] with those jokes at the time to point out how absolutely absurd the the media circus the

[00:25:02] court proceedings right this this this belief that he didn't really do it and by the way that still

[00:25:07] persists in particularly the african-american community there's a large portion of uh black

[00:25:13] americans that don't believe he did it the dna evidence overwhelming right if it had happened

[00:25:18] today right like he would have been geolocated everything would have been like it would have

[00:25:25] been way different it just would have been way different um i mean i would like to think so

[00:25:31] but also the you know the atmosphere was different there was you know the the politics of the time

[00:25:36] were different you know holding the powerful accountable kind of thing was different all of

[00:25:40] this stuff was different so um i don't know i had to talk about it this morning on uh

[00:25:45] radio station up in in roley and greensboro but like i'd you know it's the the purpose

[00:25:52] of the jokes was to mock oj simpson and his defenders right that was the whole point

[00:25:59] obviously it's not to um to make light of the fact that he murdered two people

[00:26:05] which is what he did he and his defense team were doing

[00:26:11] um some sad news the golden bachelor and his new bride have broken up they are

[00:26:22] they're getting a divorce all right that'll do it for this episode thank you so much for

[00:26:26] listening i could not do the show without your support and the support of the businesses that
