Some final thoughts here regarding the dumb assery surrounding Canegate. This is the manufactured outrage, manufactured scandal that the North Carolina Press Corps is really really pushing as part of this Senate campaign, trying to drive a wedge, trying to divide people based on the appearance of the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL Stanley Cup Finals because Michael Wattley the Republican and that's really the that's the original sin is Michael Wattley being a Republican and his campaign posted a tweet that said let's go Canes, had a graphic attached to it says game day. And by the way, thank you. Been informed that the Las Vegas Golden Knights. That's that's our opponent. And I thought, BLA, isn't that a rip off of the Army team? But know those are the Black Knights. Why do they got to be black? I don't know. I'm just saying, what's it got to be? The Black Knights? Pete. So they did not steal the Army mascot, So good to know. But I don't follow a lot of sports. I basically I used to follow a lot of sports when I was growing up. Now I just follow the Carolina Panthers. That's it. I just I watched their games. So it's like I'll watch their season. I try to watch all the games. If I'm in the car I'm listening to the game on the broadcast on the radio, and that's it. And depending on however far they get, I will That's how long my season is now I will watch. I do try to watch the playoff games as well, no matter who's in it, unless it's the Eagles, in which case then like I don't want sorry Nick, but no, it's just my long standing animus towards Philadelphia and like all of the I mean, ever since ever since the Constitutional Convention, there really hasn't been anything out of Philly that I've been into. Okay, Rocky, that was the first two Rocky movies, But even then I enjoyed those in spite of Philadelphia. Right, So, but look, I understand there are people from Philly. You didn't really have a choice in the matter. We all have our crosses to bear. But that's it. That's all I watch is the Panthers. So I don't know any Hurricanes fan or players. I don't follow hockey. The vast majority, like ninety nine percent of Americans do not follow hockey. That's not to say that I'm disparaging hockey or you shouldn't watch it or whatever. I'm not mocking people for watching it like I do for soccer. I'm just kidding. I stopped doing that a while ago. I understand. I welcome our socialist overlords. The you know, you can watch whatever you want to watch. But that's the thing. When a team, a local sports team goes to a championship game, then the local population becomes more interested in that team, the celebration around that appearance, and even the sport. Right, That's why you want, like, you know, teams that are electrifying to watch, because it generates interest, it brings new people to the sport, all of that. But because it's Michael Wattley and he is a Republican and he expressed support, well, his campaign posted this Twitter graphic. This is now double plus on good. You cannot have a Republican cheering on the Hurricanes, especially if the campaign puts out a graphic with an image of a player that's not actually a player for the Hurricanes. Right. It was an AI generated image. They didn't put somebody on there that's from another team. They just used an AI image, most likely because they didn't want to have to deal with any kind of copyright issues. Or they put up a player, and the play and the team or the ownership or the player says take my you know, image off of your graphic, I don't support you whatever. So rather than deal with all of that garbage, which would become a scandal, right like, oh my gosh, they posted player whatever. I don't know, they posted some player up there, Wayne Gretzky, and you know, Gretzky's like, take my image off of your campaign thing or whatever. So they did an AI generated image and so that's the outrage. See, so there's no there's nothing they could have done to avoid the outrage. Because the media and North Carolina is looking for these types of stories, and then they generate the headlines. They spill all of their inkle over the place digitally speaking, and then those headlines and those commentaries and those reactions, those are all then aggregated by the Cooper campaign and they sent out their press release quoting all of the media reports. It's all the press release is just a whole string of all of these leftists that work for media commenting about how terrible Michael Wattley is because he's supporting the hurricanes. Right. That is, as Pelosi described it, that's the wrap up smear. That's it. Now it's being merchandised by the Cooper campaign. So like, if you don't see this pattern, it just replicates over and over again. So I did have a bunch of other texts here that I wanted to get to. This is from Eric who says, does anybody actually read or listen to most of the leftist media anymore? And those that do are just people that vote Democrat anyway? Yeah, well, I mean that's the thing. They are appealing to their audience, right, They're taking comments and getting comments from people that are saying these things and then they're putting them in their articles. Like so much of quote journalism now is just going through social media and saying and quoting random accounts. People are saying this online and then they just have a bunch of tweets. That's all it is. It's just slop. Dave says, this hockey story is just stupid. I enjoy watching sports, but I'm no fanatic. I can't name names or stats, etc. So what I still like watching? Maybe anybody who does live there lives. Oh maybe anyone who lives their lives through a team needs to get a real life. Yeah, there are people that their entire sense of self are is wrapped up in the teams they follow. I don't understand this. But and but it happens in politics too. Seven o four or sorry, Austin says, Raleigh has been in a one sided feud with Charlotte since we got the hornets. It's just so dumb. So this is another angle to this story that the Raleigh media. That's why there I suspect I think Austin is correct here, and I suspect that's driving this. So you got the political dynamic Democrats trying to make this the cal Cunningham barbecue moment, you know, because they think that's you know, that hurt him in the election. No, we just mocked him for it. Like nobody changed their vote away from cal Cunningham because he posed in front of a gas grill with a spatula saying, love me some Carolina barbecue. Right, Nobody said, oh, that's it, got to vote against this guy. No, No, that did not happen. Okay, it was probably the cheating on his wife during the election, with the wife of a fellow service member, Like that's probably what led to a couple percentage points off of his support level. But this idea that like Raleigh is in, as he says, a one sided feud with Charlotte. Like, so, Charlotteans, are you even aware of this? Did you even know that Raleigh has this chip on their shoulder about Charlotte? They complain because Charlotteans don't drive up the road to go watch the hurricanes, but they drive down here to watch the hornets and the panthers. Yeah, they have. It's like a little brother syndrome kind of going on here, which I understand because Charlotte had this kind of rivalry going with Atlanta, and Atlanta doesn't even know we exist. And I remember it growing up in New York. New York City doesn't pay any attention to Boston, but Boston compares itself to New York City all the time. It's like, we don't even think about you. So there's that dynamic going on. And because the North Carolina Political Press Corps is based in Raleigh, they are probably swimming in those waters and they've got this inferiority complex going on as well, which is and the corollary to that is that in politics, people in Charlotte tend to feel that Raleigh ignores the needs of Charlotte. We're called the Great State of Mecklenburg County, right, We get all of these types of slurs thrown our direction, and we feel like we're not given enough credit or proper respect from the politicians in Raleigh. But in sports it's the inverse. So yes, I suspect there's some of that going on here too. It's a great point. Austin and Jennifer says, apparently they only want new fans who think exactly like they do. Yeah, that's what you guys are just driving fans away. You're making people not want to be associated with you. Good job. You know. Stories are powerful. They help us make sense of things, to understand experiences. There is no D never, never has been no D in calendar. So the Army does have the Golden Knights. See I knew this. The Black Knights are apparently their team, but I'm told now that the Golden Knights are their parachute demonstration team. That's where I've seen into a couple Army Navy games in my time, and I do remember the Golden Knights being associated with them. See Okay, so that's so now I'm back to believing that the Las Vegas Golden Knights have stolen their mascot from the US Army. Might want to look into a copyright lawsuit on that. Dave says, Oh, Dave was the one who told me about the parachute team, Chad asks, So I cannot have pride in the World Cup being hosted in America. I don't care for the socialist sport, but I'm really liking that it's in my country. Hoping those that that's your thing have a great time and see how wonderful my country is. Right, Yes, exactly, that's the reason why people pull for their local teams or in this case, right America, the national like just like with the US Olympic hockey team, I didn't know any of those players. I watched the finals or the last game, the gold medal game for both the women and the men's and I supported them. I can't name any of them. I don't need to name any of them. I don't have to. I'm just happy that this is a unifying thing for all Americans to support the team. And now like now you're going to try to shame people because of politics. That's what's going on, right' It's political. They think this is their barbecue moment, their Cal Cunningham barbecue moment, and they're going to just try to milk it for all it's worth. So you should vote for Roy because he could name three players. It's all a distraction, says Cooper. Cares more about the Hurricanes hockey team than he does North Carolina families devastated by actual hurricanes. Does seem like that. And I did get a message from Seth who said, how awesome would it have been if Michael Wattley would have answered when asked, you know, name three Hurricane players? Named three players and the Hurricanes. He should have just said Matthew, Florence and Helene. That would have been awesome. See, here's the thing, And I think Wattley may be too nice to do this, but you need to treat members of the media and Democrats. But I repeat myself with contempt and disdain when they play these games. Right, Wattley was too nice. You asked me that question. You know what I'm saying, What kind of journalism do you think you do here? Like? What kind of question is that? Do you think that has any bearing whatsoever on the race for us Senate? What are you doing here? This is some economic event. We're talking about economics, we talked about issues, and you're asking me about players on the Carolina Hurricanes team. Is some sort of gotcha? You know what? Here, let me tell you something about journalisming. Okay, the first question you should be asking yourself when you are doing a new story, when you're out there beating the bricks trying to craft a story. The first thing, Now, I granted I am a bit the news nazi. I've been called that by a boss in the past when I was a reporter. You know what, The first thing you're supposed to ask yourself, is who cares? That's the question? Who cares? And if nobody cares about this stupid story that you're pursuing, then you don't waste your time pursuing that stupid story because nobody cares. But if you are viewing your job as a water carrier for a particular ideology, well now you care because you know that your political ideological allies they're going to use that story for their own benefit, so they will care. Right Because think about this, does anybody care that a candidate for office, any candidate for any office? Does anybody care that they can actually that the candidate can name a player, two players, three players, ten players of any team in any sport? Why should you care? Seriously? Why should you care? See, that's the first question that any reporter, an actual journalist, would be asking before you go to an event that's about economics and policy. And you go to the event, and those are the questions that you are armed with. Who cares? Well, the reporter cares, and the Democrat opponent cares? The Democrats care? Cindy says, really, with this kne and this hurricane thing, is this all the Libs have well, it's what they're focusing on today. They will pivot to something else and keep in mind that this is not a standard that they hold. Okay, this is not a standard. This is just a momentary advantage that they think that they can exploit. That's it, because as I just laid out, like who cares if any candidate can name any members of any team? Does anybody care? No? They don't. So this isn't a standard that Democrats are going to start or reporters are going to start running around asking Democrats to name all of the members of various teams, because it's not a standard. It's just an exploit. Stewart says, paid the US Army, Oh pete YEA Golden Knights is the elite aerial demonstration. Yes, thank you, Jay says I played soccer in the seventies. My dad called it a communist sport. Well, yes, your dad's a wise man. I kid, I kid soccer. Okay, Yes, I have gotten the message. You don't have to keep telling me about the Golden Knights. You may have mentioned it. It's a no win situation. If they had done nothing, they would have been called out for not supporting the Hurricanes, right, they will turn anything into a political even a hockey game. Yes, correct. The Wattlely campaign should run an ad putting Cooper in the penalty box for his response to real Hurricanes that is from Matthew in Estonia. That would be a good ad and they should use a I like Spencer Pratt style. The Golden Knights settled the naming issue a few years ago. There were two groups that settled. Oh interesting, Okay, the name three Hurricanes joke made me laugh out loud, hilarious. Bad grammar boy says, how is soccer a socialist sport? Well, if you have to ask, I'm just happy if my candidate can name three members of the Supreme Court. Guys are coming with fire today. The reason we don't go to Hurricanes games is because seating capacity at Lenovo Center is eighteen five forty seven. Bank of America's seventy five thousand would love to go to hockey games. I'm reading the outrage online and I'm really I am. Yes, I am starting to develop something of a bit of a of a bias here, maybe uh maybe a prejudice in assessing hockey fans. But I have to keep telling myself right, Twitter is not real life. These are only the most usually uninformed and uh and you know, loudest people that go on to the social media and proclaim things like, uh, ray Dog, you are a sad, worthless clown, no fan. This is what he's saying to Michael Wattley, Well, the Wattley campaign. So these are probably sports fans that are leftists that don't understand that the campaign is not Michael Wattley, like the campaign account Wattley NC or whatever. You're no fan using ai picture is a total disgrace, Signed a non maggot Republican from NC. I totally believe that his Twitter handle, by the way, is my Heels. So obviously the guy is probably a bit too much of a focus on sports, right when you when you when you name yourself my Heels as if they're your team. Okay, that's not your team. You are not on that team, ray Dog, You're not on the team. You could be a fan of the team, and you know what it takes to be a fan of the team. Nothing. Nothing. I'm a bigger fan than you are. Okay, yeah, so what like do you think that gives you some better social credit score? Something like? What exactly? Because that's that's what these people seem to be communicating that, like, you're not a real fan, so only quote real fans are allowed to support a North Carolina team in a championship game. That's the standard. Gee, I wonder why nobody follows hockey. If you like, if this is the barrier for entry, you guys are going to always be a niche sport. Sorry not sorry, Like that's sorry, that's the truth. Okay. If your fan base actively repels people from getting on the bandwagon, and this is across the board in any sport at any given time, if your fan base repels bandwagon fans, like in the way they treat people who are new to the sport, new to the game, new to the team, whatever, and they show up and you're like, get out of here, you're not a true fan. Okay, message received. Good luck with your ticket sales. By the way, I did get a text here and Bernie mentioned it also because I think Bernie had you had a dream of maybe attending one of these games up in Raleigh, and then he went and looked at the pricing. I got a screenshot one of the tickets. It's like eight hundred dollars Bernie found ones that were like twelve hundred dollars because it doesn't see a lot of people because of the economics of the sport. See, that's why you have a stadium or an arena that only holds like eighteen thousand people. It's because that's the going demand, you know, eighteen thousand, and as somebody noted in an earlier text, the Panther stadium holds like seventy thousand because that's the demand for that product. I don't want to make this a football is better than hockey, because I don't care. I'm not a sports talk show. I'm not going to argue that one sport's better than the other. However, when you look at supply and demand, in other words, economics, and you look at what people are demanding, they are obviously demanding football, professional football, and professional basketball over hockey. By the way, what is the arena size for the various college basketball programs in North Carolina? Like, what is NC State's Okay, bad example, what does I kid? I caid NC State? But what is NC State? What is their arena hold? What does the tar Heel arena hold? Oh? So they play at this very okay, so a college basketball team can pack the Lenovo Center to the same extent that a professional hockey team does. Okay, are you starting to get an idea of the amount of fans support for hockey even when the team is in the Stanley Cup Finals? Right? They can only generate I mean, obviously more people would go now because they're in the championship games. Right, But now we are being here's another one using a slop to pretend to be a hockey fan. So now he's pretending to be a hockey fan. Okay, I don't think he was pretending to be a hockey fan. When his campaign sends out a tweet that says, go Canes, how does that convey that he is pretending to be a hockey fan. He's saying, go Canes, hope you win. It would be great if the team wins. And I suspect that if he sits down and watches any games of hockey, Canes otherwise whatever doesn't matter. I suspect that Michael Watley would have a pretty easy time following what's going on. I don't watch hockey, but I can sit down and watch hockey and understand what's going on. I even know what the offside's rule is okay, So like I can figure that out, I can watch it, I can enjoy a game, and I can root for the Hurricanes to win. But now apparently I can't. We're not allowed to root for the Hurricanes because we're not fans. This is so stupid, you guys, like this is what happens when politics becomes everything to you. Jeff says, if Watley had named three players, the media would have jumped him for paying more attention to sports than North Carolina citizens. Yeah, Kevin says, I would just like my representatives to be able to name three branches of government. Yet remember when we pointed out that our local sheriff, Gary not my fault, McFadden, could not identify the three branches of government. This is a great point, Kevin. And noticing that a person who works in one of the branches of government does not know which branch of government he works in, and he doesn't even know what the three branches are. And for noticing that we were attacked. See, that's why I said this standard and apply in any other situation except this one example. That's it, because it is useful right now for Democrats. That's it. Chris theatrol on the text line, very very bored by all of this. Chris is mad that I'm noticing the way that this topic is being used by Democrats and media. But I repeat myself. So wants me to move on talk about something else that I control you about. We'll do, Chris, It'll come up in the next hour. But first Tom is on the line and he would like to weigh in on this. Hello Tom, Welcome to the show. Yeah, I was listening you talk about no fault much Faden. Not my fault McFadden. Yeah, I'm sorry, not my fault. Yeah, my stand But listen, we have the reasons so many no Kings protests are going on because somebody in the white out doesn't respect the three branches of government there and the executive but they're acting like they run all three by tearing down the White House without congressional approval. Don't need it and. Doesn't need it. I couldn't hear he doesn't need the president, does not need congressional approval. It needs congressional approvement, needs approved by the bull. He just went ahead and didn't do that. But let me get to. Well, so Tom, first off, the reason why there are no Kings protests is because there is a massive, multimillion dollar network that is funding the protests. That's the reason why the no Kings protests are. I've never been to one. I didn't get none of that money. But anyway, well you said you've never been to one, so you wouldn't know. But I'm telling you the money has been traced. There are several networks. There is a massive network of left wing NGO's, activist groups, nonprofits and billionaires who are funding the network. Okay, well, let me get back to the point. After three executive branches of government and to just go and start a war with no end in sight and should be over in a week, and now it's still going on, and thank god for the Congress who's bringing back the War Powers Act. It's like somebody really needs to learn the three branches of government and that this is not do what you want to and then we'll get a straight little later. So right, So, so a couple of things. Number one, the uh, there are three branches, not executive branches, but three branches. Of government, judicial, legislation. Right and so right, So number one, Number two, the the decision to take military action resides with the president alone, he can do that. Well, okay, then evidently, thank god, the Congress said, okay, you're going crazy when I really end, because you're acting like a king. They didn't say that. I said, I said, acting like. Now you said Congress said that, And I'm saying, Congress did not say that. What you're talking about, right, So what you're talking about when you're referring to the War Powers Act, which, by the way, there is debate in the constitutional legal community as to whether or not the War Powers Act is in fact constitutional at all. I know Congress passed that law, but no, no, no, but no, I'm telling you there is. It has never been tested and there is great disagreement as to whether or not it's constitutional. I'm not going to argue whether it is or isn't, but I'm telling you that there is a debate about the constitutionality of that law. It has just never been tested to the Supreme Court. The what Congress? What? What the resolution that Congress passed yesterday, I think it was with what four Republicans joining all the Democrats in order to pass it. It's going to go to the Senate where it will probably die. But the reason it passed the House was because there were like, uh somewhere, I think it was like eighteen Republicans that were not there for the vote. That's the reason it passed. Well, they should have been there, but anyway. I don't know why they all weren't, but I mean it's you know, they were not they were not present for the votes. They probably no good with the man. They got gonna do what he wants to do anyway. But the bottom line. But he has hang on a second time. Trump has complied with the Supreme Court rulings that have gone against him. Oh yeah, he has to. I mean, thank god he didn't have to. That's not what That's not what a king would do, right, A king would just ignore it. So for example, let's say, let's say, don't know, I'm gonna give you. I'm gonna give you a hypothetical. Let's say Donald Trump decided to forgive all college loans, right, and the Supreme Court said you can't do that, and then Donald Trump came out and said, you know what, forget that. I'm gonna do it anyway. Do you think that would be like king like behavior. No, no, of course not. But my point is this your point is. Your point is that you hate Donald Trump? I get that. No, no, no, no, no, come on the president. Man. Man, I'm telling you my parents brought us up to respect the office of president. I didn't say you hate the office. No, I said to respect the office. Here's but you've been talking about Trump as a king. That's my point. I'm saying that Trump does what he wants to and then he gets the results from people later. And that's just not the way. He's not very presidential of my friend. I'll be honest with He's just. Not I I understand that. That's why I said you don't. Can I get my last point in then I'll let you come and pontificates. Yeah, I don't have any time left. Even sticking that uh USC wrestling thing out there. He's turned the white Out into an amusement park, and. So yes, it's a right, that's part of the celebration of July fourth. It's a state fair. We've had boxing matches at the White House too, So yeah, again, I get it. You don't like Trump. All right, that'll do it for this episode. Thank you so much for listening. I could not do the show without your support and the support of the businesses that advertise on the podcast, so if you'd like, please support them too and tell them you heard it here.
