[00:00:28] So, RFK Jr. is getting the hot seat treatment here at his Senate confirmation hearing. Tom Tillis is questioning. ...that are not eating the food because the dictates of the federal government have made it something that they don't want. But they say, well, it's a healthy alternative. It has processed materials in it and it's not particularly attractive to them. So they throw it away. Trash cans full of food that these kids didn't eat. So then what do they do? They go eat snacks.

[00:00:56] Or they drink a sugar drink. The SNAP program, everything you've said about the SNAP program, I agree with. I think that we should be very, very strict about that. And it's going to make some people uncomfortable in the food manufacturing segment. Produce healthy foods that we can put in the SNAP program. That's the way to address it. But we also need to look at the school health program. I was PTA president 21, 22 years ago at my daughter's high school.

[00:01:24] And I feel like we've got these kids that need help. We've got to guide them through a process. Many of them are probably on Medicaid and Medicaid's found them. Everybody here says Medicaid is sacrosanct. Nobody's admitted that Medicaid is not producing positive health outcomes. Is that your problem with Medicaid right now in the program or the outcomes? Is the outcomes. We're spending $900 billion. Our people are getting sicker every single year. Yeah. So anybody who's building it.

[00:01:54] And President Trump wants people to have it, Americans to have high quality insurance. Anybody who's building a case for the status quo of Medicaid is by extension saying that they're happy with the outcomes. I think it's unacceptable. I do have a question for you on Project Warp Speed. We support it. The CARES Act. We had 97 people in the U.S. Senate vote for it. Everybody here. There's only one member of Congress that voted against it, I believe. And Project Warp Speed had CDC, FDA, NIH, and BARDA very much in the mix.

[00:02:23] Now, some people think that you're going to come in here and insert yourself into those agencies in a way that's never been done before. Let's say that they're a part of a future Project Warp Speed. Is it your intent to go in and do something that's never been done before based on my staff's research and insert yourself in a discussion that the scientists are dealing with in those different agencies?

[00:02:46] No, Senator. What I want to do is, I'm not a scientist. I want to empower scientists. I want to make sure that science is unobstructed by vested or economic interests. That's good. I'll just say about Operation Warp Speed, it was an extraordinary accomplishment, a demonstration of leadership by President Trump.

[00:03:10] When he promoted Operation Warp Speed, he was looking at all of the different remedies, including vaccines. Therapeutics, everything. Therapeutic, ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, femtidivine, even chlorine dioxide. And he was not looking at shutting down our country for the year, forcing people to wear masks for a year, forcing all social distancing that did not have any scientific basis, which Dr. Fauci has now acknowledged.

[00:03:39] He said, we took it out of thin air. But all of those changed during the Biden administration. And it became very narrowly focused. We ended up with the worst, the highest death count of any country in the world. Mr. Chair, if I can just ask one final question, and I think it's a one-word answer. I've heard a lot of people complaining about health care delivery, Medicaid, on the other side of the dais here.

[00:04:08] Who's been responsible for health care policies over the last four years? The Biden administration. I mean the president. The Biden? Okay. So I'd like to have heard more of those in oversight hearings over the last four years. I haven't, but I'm glad that there's an acknowledgment that you're inheriting a problem that needs to be fixed. Thank you. All right. So that was Tom Tillis questioning RFK Jr., Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

[00:04:35] He is the HHS Secretary nominee, Health and Human Services Secretary, by Donald Trump. He's expected to get a rough go of it. I've seen a couple of clips so far, and I was watching earlier before the show started. But I just jumped into it. Sorry, I didn't mean to pull the fire drill there, but I just looked up and saw Tillis on the mic, and so I figured let's just start there. So welcome to the program. News Talk 1110-993-WBT.

[00:05:04] 704-570-1110. The email is Pete at thepetecalendorshow.com. Now, before the show started, I was watching, and Senator Elizabeth Warren challenged RFK Jr. And I don't think it went the way she thought it was going to go. She was speaking—oh, now we got Bernie Sanders.

[00:05:34] Oh, my gosh. It's an embarrassment of riches. I can't help myself. Okay, let's listen to Bernie. —all people as a human right. Yes? No. Senator, I can't give you a yes or no answer to that question. Health care a human right. Is health care a human right? A human right. In the way that free speech is a human right, I would say it's different because if—with

[00:06:03] free speech doesn't cost anybody anything. But in health care, if you smoke cigarettes for 20 years and you get cancer, do you—you are now taking from the pool. And so are you guaranteed the same right? Or is there also a duty? Sorry. I'd love to talk for an hour with you. We got a few minutes left here. Yeah, I don't want that answer. Every other country in us says health care, whether you're poor or rich, younger role to

[00:06:32] human right, I'm not hearing you say that. All right, you've talked about the drug companies, and maybe we agree on this one. As you all know, despite the drug companies making over $100 billion in profits, paying CEOs outrageous compensation packages, we in some cases pay 10 times more for the same drug. Will you support legislation that I will introduce which says that in America we should not be paying a nickel more for prescription drugs than people around the rest of the world? Yes? No?

[00:07:03] To equalize it? Not to equalize it, that we should not be paying more than other countries for the same damn drug. President Trump has asked me—in fact, I had a meeting with President Trump a week ago where we showed him the charts. He knows the charts. I question it— We're paying 10 times more from Europe. That's right. And are you going to commit to us that you will end that absurdity? I think in principle we can.

[00:07:32] We should end that disparity. Good. Okay. That's great. All right. Yeah, but you can't—I got to see the bill. What's the legislation there, Bernie? It's real. It's an existential threat. And it is a healthcare issue. Donald Trump thinks that it is a hoax originating in China. The question is, in your judgment, is climate change a hoax or is it real causing devastating problems?

[00:08:00] President Trump and I, from the beginning, from our first meeting, agreed to disagree on that issue. I believe climate change is existential. My job is to make Americans healthy again. All right. You believe that— That is what I'm— You disagree with— He just said that— Trump, you don't think climate change is a hoax, is what I'm hearing. All right. My job here is to make Americans healthy. I'll just ask you that, Mr. Kenney, not at your question. I answered your question, Senator Sanders. Okay. You disagree with the President on that? I answered your question. Okay.

[00:08:28] I want to pick up on a point that Senator Hassan made. Look, there is no question that abortion is a divisive issue in this country. I would say a majority of the people are pro-choice. There's a strong minority who are pro-life. A year and a half ago, you went to New Hampshire, running for president, gave a speech, and you talked about government should not tell a woman what she can do with her own body. That's her choice.

[00:08:58] Now, I think everybody on that side is pro-life. I think everybody here is pro-choice. I have never seen any major politician flip on that issue quite as quickly as you did when Trump asked you to become HHS secretary. Tell me why you think people should have confidence in your consistency and in your word when you

[00:09:24] really made a major U-turn on an issue of that importance in such a short time. Senator, I believe and I've always believed that every abortion is a tragedy. But you told the people in New Hampshire that it was their right. All right. Let me do a last question because I'm running out of time. Well, he didn't even answer the question. I think the gist of what you're trying to say today is you're really pro-vaccine. You want to ask questions.

[00:09:52] You have started a group called the Children's Health Defense. You're the original. Right now, as I understand it, on their website, they are selling what's called onesies. These are little things clothing for babies. One of them is titled on facts, unafraid. Next one in the soul for twenty six bucks a piece, by the way. Next one is no vax. No problem.

[00:10:19] They are coming before this committee and you say you're pro-vaccine. Just want to ask some questions. And yet your organization is making money selling a child's product to parents for twenty six bucks, which casts fundamental doubt on the usefulness of vaccines. Can you tell us now that you will now that you are pro-vaccine that you're going to have your organization take these products off the market?

[00:10:48] Senator, I have no power over that organization. I'm not part of it. I resigned from the board. That was just a few months ago. You founded that. You certainly have power. You can make that. Are you supportive of this? I've had nothing to do with leadership. Are you supportive of these onesies? I'm supportive of vaccines. Are you supportive of this clothing, which is militantly anti-vaccine? I am supportive of vaccines. I want good science and I want to protect the vaccines.

[00:11:17] But you will not tell the organization you founded not to continue selling that product. Thank you, Mr. Chairman. That's so ridiculous. All right. He is so ridiculous. He doesn't have any control over the organization anymore. Like, I want you. This is Defend or Disavow, right? Disavow this onesie, sir. Just cartoonish.

I guess it would be jingip.

[00:13:10] It's joining in progress. I guess it would just actually still be jip. So we're jip. That doesn't sound right, though. We're jipping the confirmation hearing of RFK Jr., just kind of dipping in and out listening to some of the high points or low points, as it were. One of said low points was just Bernie Sanders there.

[00:13:34] And Eric says, Pete, there's no way you can listen to that socialist Senator Bernie Sanders grill RFK Jr. and not hear Doc Brown say, we've got to get you back to the future. John says, Pete, you call Bernie Sanders cartoonish. And that makes sense. I'm pretty sure he got his career started by being the voice of the aardvark on the Pink Panther cartoon. That's impossible.

[00:14:05] I haven't read his IMDB. But, all right. We have some, we've got some other clips here, though. This is, how much time I got? All right. Yeah, we can do this. This, according to Steve Krakauer, who is the executive producer of the Megyn Kelly show, he says this is the key moment from the RFK hearing. I have, yeah, I have not heard this clip, but let's take a listen.

[00:14:32] Seniors in this country and others are. Catherine Cortez Masto. We have so much time. Democrat, Nevada. So we've already negotiated lowering prices for 10 drugs with Big Pharma. And Big Pharma, by the way, opposes this. They have not only are asking for a pause. They have filed lawsuits. But we've already negotiated the first 10 drugs. And we want to expand it to the next 10 to 15 that the Biden administration has put forward.

[00:14:58] Would you agree and continue that path of really mandating that Big Pharma come to the table and negotiate drug prices for Medicare so we can lower those prices for Americans? My understanding is that the executive order that was issued today, which I haven't seen, but I've read a summary of. Well, let me ask you this then, because you keep citing the Trump administration and you're just going to follow what they say. Is that what you're doing? You're just a rubber stamp in this position? President Trump. So it doesn't matter that you're before us.

[00:15:27] It could be anybody coming before us, as long as they're a rubber stamp for this administration and disregarding your beliefs and what you think. I guess my question to you is if it really is fundamental to what you believe, how do you live with that? How do you address those issues as you're moving forward? Knowing that it's going to harm Americans. Do you want me to answer the question, Senator? Do you want me to answer the question? No, I'm asking you. Okay. President Trump has asked me to end the chronic disease epidemic and make America healthy again.

[00:15:57] So is that the only reason why you're at HHS? Sorry, she doesn't want an answer. Is that the only reason why then you're at the HHS to address that one issue? President Trump has asked me because I'm in a unique position to end that. And that is what I'm doing. And if we don't solve that problem, Senator, all of the other disputes we have about who's paying and whether it's insurance companies,

[00:16:23] whether it's providers, whether it's HMOs, whether it's patients or families, all of those are moving deck chairs around in the Titanic. Our ship is sinking. Our 60% increase in Medicaid over the past four years is the biggest budget line now. And it's growing faster than any other. And no other nation in the world has what we have here. No other nation has a chronic disease.

[00:16:50] We have the highest chronic disease burden of any country in the world. We had during COVID, we had 16% of the COVID deaths in a country. We only have 4.2% of the world's population. We had a higher death count than any country in the world. And when CDC was asked why, they said it's because Americans are the sickest people on Earth. The average person who died from COVID American had 3.8 chronic diseases.

[00:17:19] This is an existential threat economically to our military, to our health, to our sense of well-being. And it is a priority for President Trump. And that's why he asked me to run the agency. And if I'm privileged to be confirmed, that's exactly what I'll do. All right. So it sounds like he's got some supporters in the gallery there. Yeah. This is the thing.

[00:17:44] If you can reduce the prevalence of chronic disease in America, then a lot of these health care costs will go down. Right? They're downstream of the issue he's talking about. All right. I hope you had a happy holiday season. But tell me if something like this happened at your house. Your family and friends are gathered around. Maybe y'all are in the living room. You're laughing, swapping stories, reminiscing. And then somebody says, hey, dad, remember those old VHS tapes?

[00:18:13] Did you ever get them transferred? And then the room gets all quiet. All eyes are on dad who says, oh, you know, well, I've been meaning to, but I just haven't gotten around to it. Look, don't let those priceless memories sit in a box for another year. All right. Create a video has been helping families in the Charlotte area preserve their history since 1997. Simply bring in your old camcorder tapes and create a video will transfer them to a USB flash drive for just $14.95 per tape. You have a big collection.

[00:19:03] We are listening in on the RFK Jr. confirmation hearing, which now has just broken or maybe concluded. I don't know. But earlier, let me, oh, hopefully this will play. I don't know if it will. Let's see if it will. This is hopefully Senator Warren, Elizabeth Warren, a.k.a. F. Focahontas because she lied about being Native American because she had high cheekbones, which is kind of racist. But anyway, she.

[00:19:35] She is going after RFK Jr. demanding that he not take money from pharmaceutical companies because we all know he's in bed with pharmaceutical companies or something. I think. Chairman. So, Mr. Kennedy, I want to start with something that I think you and I agree on. And that is that big pharma has too much power in Washington. You said that President Trump asked you to, quote, clean up corruption and conflicts. Sounds great.

[00:20:01] You said that you will, quote, slam shut the revolving door between government agencies and the companies they regulate. That also sounds great. So here's an easy question. Will you commit that when you leave this job, you will not accept compensation from a drug company, a medical device company, a hospital system or a health insurer for at least four years, including as a lobbyist or a board member?

[00:20:29] Can you just repeat the last part of the question? Can I commit to what? You're not going to take money from drug companies in any way, shape or form. Me? Yes, you. Oh. Yeah, I'm happy to commit to that. Good. That's what I figured. I said it's an easy question to start with. And I think you're right on this question. I don't think any of them want to give me money, by the way. Let's keep going.

[00:20:53] You're right because to say yes, because every American has the right to know that every decision you make as our number one health officer is to help them and not to make money for yourself in the future. So I want to talk more about money. I'm looking at your paperwork right now. In the past two years, you've raked in two and a half million dollars from a law firm called Wisner Bomb.

[00:21:20] You go online, you do commercials to encourage people to sign up with Wisner Bomb to join lawsuits against vaccine makers. And for everyone who signs up, you personally get paid. All right, hang on a second. Wisner Bomb. Like that sounds like a, I don't know, like a college fraternity drinking game or something. That's a law firm. Wisner Bomb? Oh, maybe it's B-A-U-M.

[00:21:49] Yeah, that would make a little bit more sense. All right, so she's very interested in the fact that he would go out and basically say, hey, have you been injured? By the way, he is an attorney. He's been an attorney for 40 years. He's been suing everybody over like environmental stuff and health related things and all this. And so he gets referral fees.

[00:22:12] So if he goes out there and he's like getting clients through his public speaking books or websites or whatever. And then he's like, hey, these lawyers want to take your case. And then if they win and they get a whole bunch of money, he gets a cut of the settlement. He gets a cut of the payout. And so this is what she is attacking him on because he apparently pulled in like a million or two million dollars.

[00:22:40] I don't know how many settlements there were against whom, but he made a couple million dollars through this mechanism. And if they win their case, you get 10 percent of what they win. So if you bring in somebody who gets 10 million dollars, you walk away with a million dollars. Now, you just said that you want the American people to know you can't be bought. Your decisions won't depend on how much money you could make in the future.

[00:23:10] You won't go to work for a drug company after you leave HHS. But you and I both know there's another way to make money. So, Mr. Kennedy, will you also agree that you won't take any compensation from any lawsuits against drug companies while you are secretary and for four years afterwards? Hmm. Well, I'll certainly commit to that while I'm secretary.

[00:23:38] But I do want to clarify something because you're making me sound like a shell. I put together that case. I did the Science Day presentation of the judge on that case to get it into court. Mr. Kennedy, it's just a really simple question. Yeah, but it's a simple question with a bad faith assumption rooted in it. Right. Which is that he didn't do anything. He just told you he did actually work on the case.

[00:24:08] So that would indicate that he would be part of that case. And if there's a settlement, then he would draw some of that fee. Right. So it wasn't simply a referral as she made it sound like. Taking in two and a half million dollars, I want to know if you will commit right now that not only will you not go to work for drug companies, you won't go to work suing the drug companies and taking your rake out of that while you're a secretary and for four years after. It's just.

[00:24:37] I'll commit to not take any fees from drug companies while I'm secretary. I'm. I'm asking about fees from suing drug companies. Will you agree not to do that? You're asking me to not sue drug companies. No. I'm not going to agree to that. You can sue drug companies as much as you want. I'm. He said. All right. Hang on. I'm not going to agree to not sue drug companies or anybody. So. Right. That's the answer.

[00:25:05] No, I'm not going to promise you that I'm not going to sue these guys if they're doing stuff. Like this is the thing that I don't think Democrats really understand. They look stupid doing this. You. Elizabeth Warren is now projecting. This image that she is in defense of the drug companies.

[00:25:31] I'm old enough to remember when this was something that the Democrats were just. I was going to say on the war path, but that I'm not going to say that. Oh, no. No, but they were rampaging. Over the pharmaceutical industry, the corruption of the pharmaceutical industry. And then, of course, you know, covid happens and all of a sudden they're like big farm is the best. They would never lie to us like we what? Hang on a second.

[00:26:00] Didn't you all just say that big pharma was the worst and now they're the best. How does that work? And now you've got her asking this question saying. Will you commit to not taking your rake again? Everything she is saying these loaded words making it sound like he's doing something illegal or unethical, but he's not. He's been an attorney. He is an attorney. This has been his life's work.

[00:26:29] And, you know, he started off doing like environmental stuff. And then I think he kind of shifted focus into more health related things. And and if I recall correctly, I remember seeing an interview with him. Maybe he was on Rogan or something. And he talked about like there was a personal experience that he had had with some family who had come to him and asked him about this. And he was so moved. He started looking into it and he picked it up as his cause. This is what he wants to do with his life.

[00:26:56] He said this at that press conference when he was dropping out from his presidential run. He said, I'm 70 something years old. I don't have enough time left in my life to try to make a difference in this thing that I think I can make a difference. And so if Trump is going to offer me an opportunity to do that, I'm going to take my shot. I'm going to shoot the shot. Whether he makes it or not, we don't know. But that's what he's going to do. That's what he told you his motivation is. You don't have to believe him.

[00:27:26] But this line of questioning just makes you look foolish. Well, more foolish, I should say, for Senator Warren. All right. If you're listening to this show, you know I try to keep up with all sorts of current events. And I know you do, too. And you've probably heard me say, get your news from multiple sources. Why? Well, because it's how you detect media bias, which is why I've been so impressed with Ground News. It's an app and it's a website and it combines news from around the world in one place. So you can compare coverage and verify information.

[00:27:56] You can check it out at check.ground.news slash Pete. I put the link in the podcast description, too. Your subscription then not only helps my podcast, but it also supports Ground News as they make the media landscape more transparent. Got a message here from the Hellion who says, RFK, not good audio, not good radio. I know like this is going to be the biggest challenges because of the condition he has with his vocal cords.

[00:28:51] It is tough to listen to. I I know I get it. And you're welcome for rationing that coverage. The Hellion goes on to say hardly anybody on either side will do anything to Big Pharma. They give to everyone and a lot of it. And Elizabeth Warren always seems to bring the comedy. She is pretty consistent. And it's true.

[00:29:20] It's amazing to me how much air and video time Mark Warner is getting. Really? I haven't seen any of that. But then again, I have a strict no Warner rule on the show. No, I'm just kidding. I don't do this from Russ. My libertarian leanings usually keep me from saying people should have to do fill in the blank.

[00:29:46] However, I do believe everybody should have to watch at least a few hours of congressional hearings to understand how childish and ignorant most of the people in government are. Oh, and as long as we're going to have taxes, maybe write a single check once a year to fully appreciate how onerous they are. Yeah. I always love watching the videos of the kids that get their first job and they get the first paycheck and then they look at all the taxes that get to get their check and they like, what? Yep. There you go.

[00:30:17] And by the way, we're going to get into this. The funding freeze, you know, the freak out over the funding freeze. We're going to get into that in the next hour. But real quick, let me play this. Nicole Shanahan, she was RFK Jr.'s running mate in the last presidential cycle. She's like a billionaire and big donor to Democrats for years and years and years.

[00:30:42] And then she got, you know, sort of red pilled when they were working so hard to destroy RFK Jr. and his campaign because they thought he was a threat to their electoral chances, you know, trying to get him off the ballots, on the ballots or whatever in various states. And so she put out a she put out a video. And here's the audio of that. Hey, everyone. Tomorrow is a pivotal moment in our nation's history at 10 a.m. Eastern time.

[00:31:09] RFK will sit in front of the Senate Finance Committee for his confirmation hearing to be our nation's next secretary of health and human services. I urge everyone to call their U.S. senators over the following days and demand they vote yes on Bobby's nomination. He is more than qualified. He's proven, principled and prepared to lead. I'll list. I'll share a list below of key senators. If they represent your state, they need to hear from you.

[00:31:37] If they don't, please call your own senator and ask them to vote yes. We need as many votes as we can get. So this hasn't been widely reported. But in 2020, I cut large checks to Chuck Schumer to help Democrats flip two Senate seats in Georgia from red to blue. The two candidates I helped elect, Senator Raphael Ornock and Senator John Ossoff. Please know I will be watching your votes very closely.

[00:32:04] I will make it my personal mission that you lose your seats in the Senate if you vote against the future health of America's children. And more than that, I also want to say to Senators Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, Lisa Markovsky, Susan Collins, Bill Cassidy, Tom Tillis, James Langford, Cory Booker, John Fetterman, Bernie Sanders and Catherine Cortez Masto. This is a bipartisan message and it comes directly from me. While Bobby may be willing to play nice, I won't.

[00:32:34] If you vote against him, I will personally fund challengers to primary you in your next election. And I will enlist hundreds of thousands to join me. Big Pharma and Big Ag have exploited us for far too long. It ends now. You're either on the side of transparency and accountability or you are standing in the way. The choice is yours. Please choose wisely.

[00:33:02] Tom Tillis was on that list and he seemed pretty nice to our junior today. I don't know if he saw Nicole Shanahan's message. But. Oh, my. Raphael Warnock is actually questioning RFK Junior right now. I don't know if he watched the video, but when somebody who has donated lots and lots of money to political campaigns. Puts out a message like that in public.

[00:33:32] Identifying you saying I gave you a boatload of money. I funded your campaign. And. You need to confirm Robert Kennedy and he may play nice, she said, but I won't. Oh, we got to get money out of politics, people. Am I right? Yeah, it's just. All right. That'll do it for this episode. Thank you so much for listening.

[00:33:59] I could not do the show without your support and the support of the businesses that advertise on the podcast. So if you'd like, please support them, too, and tell them you heard it here.
