The same people (and their allies in the media) who have been systematically dismantling the "norms" on appointing judicial nominees now say the precedents they set should be ignored. Charges of hypocrisy no longer carry and purchase in politics. Still, filling the Supreme Court vacancy before the election would be consistent with the Constitution and the historical process.
