[00:00:28] In case you had not heard, OJ Simpson is dead. OJ Simpson died according to a post by his family
[00:00:37] on Twitter. He was 76 years old. In honor of OJ Simpson, I present to you this tribute.
[00:00:48] It's a compilation of all of the commentary of the late Norm MacDonald on this.
[00:00:56] According to retailers, the most popular Halloween mass this year is OJ Simpson.
[00:01:01] And the most popular Halloween greeting is, I'll kill you and that guy who's bringing over your
[00:01:06] glasses or treat. And the Pope came out with a book this week which contains a series of essays
[00:01:19] examining faith and morality in today's secular world and the changing role of the Catholic
[00:01:24] church as it approaches the 21st century. The book is entitled, God Himself Told Me That OJ Is Guilty.
[00:01:36] In other book news, Prince Charles released an autobiography in which he states that he
[00:01:40] never loved Princess Di and that his father pressured him to marry her. The book is
[00:01:44] entitled, of course OJ did it. I mean come on. In his book, OJ Simpson says that he would have
[00:01:55] taken a bullet or stood in front of a train for Nicole. Man, I'm going to tell you that is some
[00:02:01] bad luck when the one guy who would have died for you kills you. That's perfect.
[00:02:05] You don't get worse luck than that. And OJ announced this week that he's coming out with a new book
[00:02:15] called I Want to Tell You and if it's successful, OJ will work on yet another book entitled
[00:02:21] From Football to Prison, My 25 Years of Showering with Other Men.
[00:02:26] And finally, in honor of the 50th anniversary of their first publication, Random House will
[00:02:36] be releasing special commemorative issues of many Dr. Seuss classics. The first to hit the
[00:02:41] bookshelves will be Green Eggs and Ham and OJ is Guilty. Judge Edo was interviewed this week
[00:02:49] by a local TV station in Los Angeles asked by the interviewer if it was appropriate for a
[00:02:54] supposedly impartial judge to be on TV with his case still pending, Edo said maybe not but how
[00:03:01] appropriate is it to kill your ex-wife? It was revealed today that OJ Simpson told police
[00:03:14] that Nicole Brown Simpson used to beat him up. He also claimed that she and Ron Goldman killed
[00:03:20] him. OJ Simpson's lawyers have decided to skip hearings on DNA evidence and go right to trial.
[00:03:32] Asked why they did this, the lawyers replied we want to get OJ acquitted as speedily as possible
[00:03:37] so he can get back to doing what he does best killing people. Let's get to OJ. OJ Simpson's
[00:03:46] lawyers say they don't want the families of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman in the courtroom
[00:03:51] during the trial. They're afraid the presence of the family members will just remind OJ of how much
[00:03:57] more killing he still has to do. Well OJ Simpson's lawyers stopped feuding this week finally.
[00:04:11] The dream team, F. Lee Bailey and Robert Shapiro were able to put aside their differences
[00:04:16] and express their admiration for each other after OJ threatened to cut their heads off.
[00:04:30] According to the National Transportation Safety Board sleepy truckers are responsible for 1,000
[00:04:37] deaths a year. In second place, OJ Simpson had 2 deaths a year. It was revealed this week
[00:04:46] that defense lawyer Johnny Cochran once abused his first wife. In his defense, Cochran said,
[00:04:52] hey at least I didn't kill her like some people I know.
[00:04:55] Tomorrow Judge Lansito will take OJ and the jury on a tour of the now famous crime scene. For the
[00:05:10] jury it will be their first look at the actual location. Of course for OJ it will be just a
[00:05:14] case of been there done that. Judge Lansito was happy with the jurors field trip to
[00:05:21] the crime scene last week and went off without a hitch said, it's not one murder.
[00:05:29] OJ's pal Al Cowlings now has a 1,900 number for 299 a minute. Cowlings will tell callers
[00:05:36] that OJ is innocent and for 399 a minute he'll try to do it without laughing.
[00:05:51] And this week Simpson Defense Lawyers question witnesses about a half melted
[00:05:55] container of ice cream found at the murder site. The Simpson defense has seized upon
[00:06:00] the ice cream for two reasons. One, it may help fix the time of the murders and two,
[00:06:06] it was the only thing in the murder scene without any of OJ's blood on it.
[00:06:15] To illustrate the point that their client is running out of money to defend himself,
[00:06:18] OJ Simpson's lawyer said this week that if he had to do it over again after killing his victims,
[00:06:24] OJ would now rob them as well. That one you find troubling? We went? Was OJ Simpson high on speed
[00:06:35] the night of the murders? Absolutely not said defense attorney Johnny Cochran today.
[00:06:40] And a simple test of any of OJ's blood found at the crime scene will prove it.
[00:06:55] And OJ pal Al Cowling said this week that in looking for the truth in the OJ Simpson case,
[00:07:00] he sometimes talks to a picture of Nicole Brown Simpson, something that in the past would
[00:07:06] have gotten him killed by OJ. F. Lee Bailey said this week that if the defense only knew what Ron
[00:07:15] Goldman's last words were, they might be able to find the real killer. You know if you asked me
[00:07:20] Goldman's last words were probably, hey, you're OJ Simpson. Oh no, OJ is struck again. How about
[00:07:35] that? Because there is a headline that says fifth OJ juror axed. And in court this week,
[00:07:45] Cato Kalin testified that OJ Simpson did not appear angry before or after the period of his
[00:07:52] wife's murder. But Kalin admitted he could have been a touch edgy while he was actually murdering her.
[00:07:58] Right of the minute.
[00:08:05] Hertz Rinal car company announced this week that it will buy 520,000 vehicles,
[00:08:10] increasing its worldwide fleet 24%. In addition, they will try to find a new spokesman who won't
[00:08:16] kill his ex-wife. This week at the OJ Simpson trial, the infamous bloody glove was finally
[00:08:26] introduced into evidence. And OJ didn't help his case any by blurting out, there it is, I've been
[00:08:31] looking all over for that thing. And a new shocker in the OJ Simpson trial. This afternoon,
[00:08:43] Judge Lance Edo dismissed yet another juror, a 45-year-old African American male for failing
[00:08:50] to tell the court that he had once worked for Hertz Rinal car and that he had once held
[00:08:55] in the cold brown Simpson's glasses while OJ killed her. Dismissed Simpson juror, Jeanette
[00:09:07] Harris revealed in interviews this week that the jury is torn by dissension and has already
[00:09:12] divided into two camps, those who think he is guilty and those who are really, really stupid.
[00:09:26] A bad week for the prosecution of the OJ Simpson trial under intense cross-examination by defense
[00:09:31] lawyer Barry Shek, LAPD crime expert Dennis Fung admitted that he may have contaminated
[00:09:37] the crime scene when he accidentally dropped a big bucket full of OJ's DNA.
[00:09:46] With our top story tonight this week in the OJ Simpson trial, after grizzly photos
[00:09:51] of the murdered Nicole Brown Simpson were shown in court, OJ turned his head away and wept. It was
[00:09:57] at that moment that he realized he would never be able to kill her again. Well, in a questionable
[00:10:08] move by the defense team this week, OJ Simpson demonstrated how to stab two people at the same time.
[00:10:21] Remember 12 Angry Men, the classic courtroom drama? Well, the first film about the OJ Simpson cases
[00:10:28] in the works. It's entitled 9 Angry Black People, 2 Scared Asians and a White Guy Who Hasn't Spoken
[00:10:34] Since Rosa Lopez. Testimony during the final week provided some spell-binding moments.
[00:10:46] In a brilliant move during closing arguments, Simpson attorney Johnny Cochran put on the knit
[00:10:52] cap prosecutors say OJ wore the night he committed the murders. Although OJ may have heard his case
[00:10:58] when he suddenly blurted out, hey, easy with that. That's my lucky stabbing hat.
[00:11:02] Well, the trial of the century is over. Late yesterday, the fate of OJ Simpson,
[00:11:17] the most famous murder suspect in United States history, was placed in the hands of the jurors.
[00:11:22] They must now decide whether to free him or get all their heads cut off.
[00:11:28] All right, so that's a compilation from Norm McDonald on Saturday Night Live's weekend update
[00:11:34] all during the OJ Simpson trial and from his arrest all the way through the trial.
[00:11:39] And of course he was found not guilty. Norm had some thoughts on that too.
[00:11:44] Just in honor of the late OJ Simpson and the passing of this legend, I feel like it's
[00:11:51] only fitting that we pay homage with another late great, Norm McDonald.
[00:12:21] We've already established that you're smart. I mean, you listened to this podcast after all.
[00:12:26] So let's put those smarts into action. Go to carolinareadiness.com. That's carolinareadiness.com
[00:12:33] or call them at 828-226-7239. Carolina Readiness Supply has 2,000 square feet of supplies,
[00:12:40] as well as educational materials that you're going to need for any kind of emergency.
[00:12:45] Veteran owned Carolina Readiness Supply, will you be ready when the lights go out?
[00:12:49] The year was 1994. I was in Rock Hill, South Carolina attending Wintubb University.
[00:12:56] Then the trial of the century, the OJ Simpson trial through 1995, October... What was it?
[00:13:02] October 3rd, I think? October 5th? October 3rd, 1995. 150 million people tune in to see
[00:13:10] OJ Simpson acquitted on the double murder trial, charges rather, of Nicole Simpson,
[00:13:19] his estranged wife and a guy who worked at a restaurant
[00:13:25] who came by to drop off her sunglasses that she had left at the restaurant.
[00:13:29] And to finish it off, here's Norm McDonald on the verdict there.
[00:13:33] Well, it is finally official. Murder is legal in the state of California.
[00:13:45] A down and out OJ Simpson, depressed that all of his money-making ideas have failed,
[00:13:51] has decided to go back to doing what he does best, killing people.
[00:13:57] All right, so Norm McDonald, by the way, it's an entire compilation. There's more of it too.
[00:14:01] He did a little stand-up bit on it as well. And he got a lot of grief for it at the time.
[00:14:07] And people think that's why he got fired from Saturday Night Live, because he made it such
[00:14:11] a point. Here's the thing. We now expect DNA in all of these types of murder trials.
[00:14:19] This case, the OJ case, not only was it about fame and money and people loving
[00:14:23] their sports heroes more than the law, right? It was about the DNA being a new form of evidence.
[00:14:34] And it was beyond the grasp of the jurors. That was one of the theories that was beyond
[00:14:41] the grasp of the jurors. But the DNA evidence stuff now we demand it. Now it's expected.
[00:14:45] It's like if you don't have DNA, what are you even here for? But back then,
[00:14:49] it was a new kind of thing, and they had to kind of explain it. Like, do we really know this is
[00:14:55] accurate and all of that? Yeah. And by the way, as the philosopher Chris Rock pointed out, I'm not
[00:15:02] sure anybody ever got their OJ prizes after his acquittal. And we will never find out then who
[00:15:10] did it because there wasn't anybody else searching for the real killer except OJ Simpson
[00:15:14] on every public golf course. He was the only one looking for the real killers.
[00:15:20] So we'll never find out. Cannot believe that people think that I was somehow attacking OJ
[00:15:28] Simpson in all of that. That was clearly Norm MacDonald doing the weekend update.
[00:15:34] That was not, that wasn't me. I went, I...
[00:15:41] Okay, but fine. Like look, if I'm going to go down for something, it's going to be for,
[00:15:44] yeah, call an OJ Simpson a killer. Yes, absolutely. I'm fine with that.
[00:15:50] You know who else was fine with that? Was Norm MacDonald. He was fine with that too.
[00:15:58] Not everybody was happy to hear me go over this. David says he can't believe that I played all of
[00:16:06] it. Still going, unbelievable. So David did not, he did not appreciate hearing the tribute
[00:16:12] to OJ Simpson and reliving the tick-tock of the coverage of the OJ Simpson trial.
[00:16:19] I mean, if you lived in, you remember these news stories and the developments,
[00:16:27] like it took you right back. It just brought you right back to the moment.
[00:16:34] Mark thought it was funny. Mark says funny stuff. So it makes it all worthwhile.
[00:16:40] The other thing is, by the way, just a heads up when people tell me that like, oh, I hate this.
[00:16:46] Why are you talking about this topic? Just... And I know this about myself. I have self-awareness
[00:16:52] on this is that it just, it makes me want to do more of it. You know, I have that.
[00:17:00] Because I was actually going to move on. I've got all this stuff on like
[00:17:02] Gaza and I've got this stuff on immigration. Oh, I do have audio of Senator John Kennedy.
[00:17:10] Oh, I have all of the audio from Sheriff Gary McFadden who's very, very mad. He's playing more race
[00:17:16] cards. Not sure if he's got... I mean, he must have a full deck of race cards, just 52 of them.
[00:17:22] Just bam, bam, bam, bam. Just laying them down. But now I feel like I just want to keep going
[00:17:29] on the OG. But I will say this too, and I just... Right, Adventure Nero on Twitter said,
[00:17:38] never forget the worst thing that OJ did was introduce the world to the Kardashians.
[00:17:42] I mean, I don't know if it's the worst thing. I think probably the murdering was the worst thing.
[00:17:48] But yes, it was OJ Simpson and his lawyer. What was his name? Robert Kardashian, I think,
[00:17:58] was played by Ross from Friends in the Dock You series or whatever it was.
[00:18:05] David Schwimmer played Kardashian who died and it was his daughter and his late... Or his widow,
[00:18:14] Chris Kardashian, who then married Bruce Jenner. But the Kardashian girls like those were all Kim
[00:18:21] Kardashian and... I don't remember all the other names but Khloe is one of them, I think,
[00:18:25] and there's a Courtney. There you go. See that? I remember their names and they got... There were
[00:18:30] others. I don't know all of the others but the launch of reality TV, this traces right back
[00:18:38] to the OJ Simpson trial as well. This is from the Hollywood Reporter.
[00:18:44] The OJ Simpson trial taught Hollywood that cheap programming could deliver huge ratings and
[00:18:51] profitability, both for cable and broadcast networks and gave rise to an explosion in reality TV
[00:18:58] that relied far less on actors, writers, costly sets and other production elements.
[00:19:05] I was driving in to the studio today and the news broke of OJ Simpson's death just before I
[00:19:18] got on the road to come into work. I actually saw it on Twitter and I sent it out to the
[00:19:23] staff and then I got in the car and I made my way in to work here and driving in,
[00:19:29] I was kind of scanning around and I caught WFNZ, our sister station and they were talking about it
[00:19:36] because there was the crossover into sports obviously but it was... I mean even if he wasn't this...
[00:19:41] Well, if he wasn't the star running back it never would have been the story it was so you
[00:19:46] can't take the sports component out of it. There were way more people that were interested
[00:19:50] in the story but Jeff Reicher made the point that it basically launched or maybe it was Colin,
[00:20:00] I forget but they said it basically created court TV. I mean this was wall-to-wall court proceeding
[00:20:08] that drew massive ratings and up until that point this had not been seen, this kind of coverage
[00:20:17] had not been seen and then you end up with court TV which now I think is called true TV or something
[00:20:22] because they do more than just court cases and all. And while he was acquitted,
[00:20:34] because that trial became whatever it was supposed to be, it was not. It was supposed
[00:20:42] to be about the evidence and whether or not the state had proven beyond the reasonable doubt that
[00:20:51] he killed Simpson and Goldman. And you look at the evidence and it is clear that he did. The
[00:21:01] evidence is beyond a reasonable doubt but the jurors decided that case based on other factors.
[00:21:09] This was in the wake of the riots, the LA riots, Rodney King. All of that was in the
[00:21:17] air at the time. That was all in the backdrop. He was then, you'll recall he got busted for
[00:21:27] the sports memorabilia theft remember? He had the civil case against him. There was a civil
[00:21:34] ruling where he had to pay like $33 million to the Goldman family. He then gets arrested. This would
[00:21:44] have been like mid-2000s in Las Vegas where he and a bunch of his friends, they all get some guns
[00:21:51] and they attempt to take back some sports memorabilia that he believed was his and that
[00:21:58] was stolen. He went to jail for that because robbery, gunpoint, generally frowned upon and
[00:22:09] there were a lot of people who said that he was punished more severely in that case because
[00:22:15] he got acquitted in the murder trial. He did nine years in prison. He got out
[00:22:21] and then launched a Twitter account where, true story, Norm MacDonald tweeted at him a couple times.
[00:22:34] I think it was a Babylon B headline something to the effect that Norm MacDonald is wondering
[00:22:43] where is OJ? Norm wondering this as he is camped out at the pearly gates and he's wondering,
[00:22:49] OJ's dead? Where is he? Is it too soon? A couple of messages here. Oh, hang on a second before I
[00:23:00] get to the messages on OJ. On April 21st at six o'clock in the evening, the Independence Fund
[00:23:11] as well as honored guests plus Gary Sinise and the Lieutenant Dan Bande featuring senior members
[00:23:20] of the government, military and private sectors. More than 100, sorry, more than 1500 first responders
[00:23:25] and veterans are all going to be in attendance and will all be joined by celebrities and VIPs
[00:23:30] to honor Wounded Heroes Day. It is a celebration in the Queen City and they're going to light
[00:23:37] the skyline here in Charlotte with red, white and blue for the fourth annual Wounded Heroes Day
[00:23:42] honoring Sergeant Michael Verardo and North Carolina's Bravest. There's a concert, so Gary Sinise,
[00:23:48] Lieutenant Dan from Forest Gump, the actor. He's got a band. It's called the Lieutenant Dan Band.
[00:23:55] Sunday, April 21st, six o'clock it's going to be at the revelry, this big event.
[00:24:03] And so if you would like to own, darn it, well there's a link here and I don't have the actual link
[00:24:09] because it's like a, you know, like when they changed the link from the URL from the domain name
[00:24:14] whatever they changed the address and it just says the Independence Fund. So you can google that.
[00:24:19] The Independence Fund, Wounded Heroes Day, I will get more information on this and bring it
[00:24:24] to you but it's at the revelry 701 Keswick Avenue again that's April 21st at 6 p.m. It's a Sunday
[00:24:34] and I'll get you the actual, because I believe it's just open. I think you just want, they
[00:24:38] want you to register for it. All right so a couple of messages here. This is from LLP
[00:24:45] 182011555. He says the thing I find the most disturbing out of all of this is how a guy
[00:24:52] who is primarily known for sleeping on a couch and saying I don't know
[00:24:57] managed a net worth of two million dollars. That's Kato Kalin. I never understood this like,
[00:25:05] yeah I don't understand this thing where people out in Hollywood they have just random
[00:25:11] like house guests that live in their home or in one of the attached dwellings or something
[00:25:18] on their property, you know they live in a building on their property and they're just there.
[00:25:25] Yeah I don't get it.
[00:25:31] Let me see here there's a couple of emails here. Terry suggests we could rename
[00:25:37] right because the bridge in Baltimore, the Francis Scott Key Bridge, they're like oh you can't
[00:25:41] rename it that because you know racism whatever. So can't rename it that so they're going to have
[00:25:50] to come up with a different name for the bridge. So how about the OJ Simpson Memorial Bridge and
[00:25:55] when it opens Terry suggests we could do like a procession of white Broncos that just kind of
[00:26:02] very slowly drive across them.
[00:26:05] Dennis says one of the funny things I thought about the OJ trial was since it took so long
[00:26:12] people were getting furious over the fact that the trial kicked off their favorite soap operas
[00:26:17] every day. I actually made a t-shirt that said I ran into OJ and then I shredded it up with a
[00:26:25] pair of scissors. I wore it a couple times while night clubbing. It was a good conversation
[00:26:32] piece. Very nice. Very nice I ran into OJ. Is the juice worth the squeeze? John asks OJ is dead.
[00:26:40] Oh well humanity has lost nothing but now who will search for the real killer?
[00:26:46] I thought the same thing John. I thought the same thing like he was the only one looking right?
[00:26:52] The only one looking like Harrison Ford looking for the one armed killer right?
[00:27:02] There was one other... oh yeah I saw this also. There is hope for humanity in that in the wake of
[00:27:11] OJ's death everybody is sharing Norm MacDonald jokes. So that's right we're not lost.
[00:27:19] We still do know right from wrong as a society, as a people right? We know what really went down.
[00:27:25] All right that'll do it for this episode thank you so much for listening. I could
[00:27:29] not do the show without your support and the support of the businesses that advertise on the
