[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_00]: The end of the last hour there going into the newscast we had a call from Fred although it

[00:00:35] [SPEAKER_00]: sounded a lot like that guy Nurse Frank, so I don't know if it was the same person and

[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I detected correct me if I'm wrong I detected a bit of a Yankee accent on that guy and

[00:00:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I could say that by the way because I'm originally from New York.

[00:00:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't believe he lived in Asheville for six years.

[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't believe it.

[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I think he lied to me and that's what I suspected he was lying to me but when I asked him where

[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_00]: he lived and for people who were just listening to this on the podcast or you didn't catch

[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_00]: them the last caller he was taking delight in the misery of others because he believed

[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_00]: them all to be leftists.

[00:01:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Everybody in western North Carolina he believes are liberals and he wanted to use this opportunity

[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_00]: while people are literally dying right now there are people dying on mountains that have

[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_00]: survived for the last five days without food or water shelter from the elements

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: trapped in a collapsed house and he wanted to use this opportunity wondering if enough

[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_00]: time had passed by for him to start taking delight in the misery of these other people

[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: to toot the horn for fossil fuels and then say I guess that everybody up there deserves

[00:02:04] [SPEAKER_00]: what they are getting somehow because everyone up there is a leftist.

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I politely told him I thought I was being polite that he's an idiot because anybody who has

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_00]: ever been in the western North Carolina region which is about a third of the state that

[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: has been affected, anybody up there who has been up there knows that there is political

[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_00]: diversity of viewpoints.

[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_00]: There are a lot of different people up there and just like here in Charlotte the city of

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Charlotte is controlled by Democrats and the areas around Charlotte are controlled by

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Republicans and there are Democrats that live in their Republican areas and Republicans

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_00]: that live in the Democrat areas.

[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Does that mean that somehow or another we deserve to die too?

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Is that the idea that if a natural disaster plows through the city of Charlotte that somehow

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_00]: or another, ha ha ha, look at the fossil fuels saving everybody's lives.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_00]: You want to spike the football in their faces because they are liberals.

[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Although he didn't say liberal, he came up with or he used the term that I'm sure

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_00]: gets him lots of traction on Facebook or gab maybe.

[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not a, I know caller Fred may think that the word is a funny word to use with all of

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: his friends that say the funny word but it's like I just, I kind of roll my eyes.

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not creative.

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I see people who write those words and I'm like okay I know what I'm going to get

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_00]: with you.

[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_00]: You're not exactly a deep thinker you know and I value that more than I value the

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: ability to just mock people especially when they're dying you know like that's a

[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_00]: different kind of malevolence altogether.

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_00]: No no no he's just talking about fossil fuels Pete.

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_00]: No Fred's a broken guy.

[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how, I don't know why.

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_00]: So part of me is sympathetic to him.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I have empathy for him because that must suck to go through life like that.

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Waiting to pounce or seize dare I say on somebody else's misery in order to score a

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_00]: political point that actually in the grand scheme of things when you look at the

[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: scoreboard at the end of your life it's actually a negative against you.

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Unless of course you've already what had your own gravestone marker carved out

[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_00]: that says he owned the libs that one time.

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_00]: And I guess that's fine if that's the way you want to be remembered that's cool too.

[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't care about somebody's voter registration before I airlift them off the

[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_00]: side of a mountain.

[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think anybody that's running the flights up there to save people and

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_00]: to give them water and food and clothing and shelter they're not checking their

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: voter cards.

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_00]: You know before they hoist an 80 year old off the side of a mountain they're

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_00]: not checking to see what her politics are.

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: She's an American you idiot.

[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_00]: She's an American she's a North Carolinian and I don't believe Fred that

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_00]: when he said that oh I lived in Asheville for six years I don't believe

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_00]: that because if you lived in a place for six years you would know what area it

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: was immediately.

[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_00]: You would know immediately.

[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I do believe he knows somebody there and I suspect his friend does live

[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_00]: near the Frisbee golf course.

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I know exactly where he's talking about but I suspect he may have

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_00]: stayed there for a little while or visited his friends or something.

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I would be interested to know can you actually refrain from talking politics

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_00]: with your friend who's the leftist.

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Could you actually refrain from doing that because if you're going to call

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_00]: into a radio show to own the libs on fossil fuels is there the fossil

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_00]: fuels are saving you right now.

[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not doing an inventory of the power generation for the various

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_00]: vehicles being used for search and rescue.

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't care it doesn't matter to me if somebody rolls up with an EV and

[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_00]: they're going to be delivering water.

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll take it that's fine.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't care you can do your assessments of what worked and what didn't.

[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_00]: You know emergency response vehicles need the most reliable source of fuel.

[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_00]: But if you thought you were going to get some yucks or a rimshot from me

[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: on that you're sadly mistaken as I think he probably found out and

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_00]: just for the record by the way.

[00:06:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I did not leave Asheville because of all the leftists there.

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I was actually building a life there.

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Christie had moved up.

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I launched a podcast she had a job we bought a house and then I got a job

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_00]: offer here that's why I came back here.

[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't flee Western North Carolina.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't flee the mountains because of all the lives in the mountains.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Once again that is like dare I say that's mega country my friend that is

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_00]: mega country so you're sitting here in an attempt to own the left to

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_00]: own the lives you're making jokes at the expense of your own people.

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_00]: That's just sad that's why I said he's a broken guy.

[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what did it.

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't care but no I don't have any tolerance for it and here's the thing

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_00]: it wouldn't even really matter.

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_00]: It wouldn't even really matter if it was just blue cities that got hit.

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Wouldn't matter to me.

[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't matter.

[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_00]: They're North Carolinians they're Americans.

[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Those are my people.

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Are they not your people?

[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Those are my people.

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_00]: If you don't think of them as your people maybe you should head on back

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_00]: up by 95 Fred.

[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_00]: They'll have you back up there in those red bastions right of the

[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Northeast where you hail from that your accent clearly gives away

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_00]: that you are from up there maybe you should head on back.

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh what's that?

[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_00]: You fled that area?

[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Mark says I have seen a lot of this on Twitter the past few days

[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_00]: it's sickening in my opinion.

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_00]: So when I am trying to be charitable I recognize that people are

[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_00]: scared and they are hurt and they don't know what to do.

[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_00]: They feel helpless and so they lash out.

[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_00]: You may have noticed I have not attacked my good friend Ray Cooper

[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_00]: the governor of North Carolina people demanding that he show up.

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_00]: No actually don't show up.

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't need Governor Cooper there because he's not going to do anything.

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Governor Cooper is not going to be I mean he may what throw a couple of

[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_00]: rolls of paper towels out at somebody.

[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't need that unless he's flying shoppers or driving trucks of supplies

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't need him there.

[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_00]: He can station himself someplace on the outskirts of the disaster area

[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_00]: that's just fine right now and everybody's like where's Joe Biden

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_00]: and where's Kamala Harris and all this stuff and to me I have

[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_00]: never been a fan of the politicization of disasters.

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_00]: This started though with George W. Bush and Hurricane Katrina

[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_00]: and it has not stopped since and it's unnecessary.

[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not necessary do you really I mean think about this

[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_00]: they're like where's Joe Biden needs to be here do you really want Joe Biden here?

[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you really want Joe Biden to be stumbling around some

[00:10:03] [SPEAKER_00]: devastated parking lot or overlooking some devastation?

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Like really like you think this is helpful right now?

[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Again people are trapped starving dehydrating and dying.

[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want Joe Biden anywhere near here.

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_00]: I've not called for him to come to town we don't need him.

[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't need Kamala Harris doing a flyby either.

[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't need it but maybe I'm just a little bit more practical like that.

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_00]: You know stories are powerful they help us make sense of things to understand experiences.

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Stories connect us to the people of our past while transcending generations

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_00]: visit creativevideo.com

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Relief organization in Swan Inoa and so they are you know boots on the ground

[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_00]: doing relief for the residents but also first responders

[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_00]: also I saw that the the Waffle House

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_00]: people aren't aware Waffle House has an entire like the Department of Homeland Security

[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it is they have like a Waffle House index

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_00]: and so they know depending on the status of the Waffle Houses in the area

[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_00]: how bad the area has been hit

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_00]: because Waffle House runs on gas and they have no deep friars and stuff so

[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Waffle House can keep cooking in really bad weather when power goes out

[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_00]: they can still serve some food and and they stay open and they

[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_00]: they have a whole like emergency response plan

[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_00]: for areas that get hit and so they got people coming in to relieve the local workforce

[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_00]: it's an amazing operation that Waffle House runs

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_00]: it's why I like to support them and I love their omelets

[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_00]: good omelets

[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Paul welcome to the program hello Paul

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Hi Pete

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey what's going on

[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_02]: I just wanted to call in and share this

[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm a commercial truck driver for the construction industry

[00:13:11] [SPEAKER_02]: the company I work for we set out Sunday

[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Sunday morning to run erosion control material rip rat ballast up to the mountains

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_02]: and first off

[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_02]: news hearing about it radio doesn't know just since you have a stating

[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_02]: but what I want to get to is when you get up there

[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_02]: the mountains are absolutely known for having gas stations with grills in it

[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_02]: be honest the fried chicken stuff you can get the food you can get from these gas stations are probably better than any restaurant you can get up more

[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_02]: the point I want to get to is every one of these stores no matter what trial tribulations

[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_02]: very outspoken people there whether they're boat red whether they vote blue

[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_02]: it's all over their stores they were cooking every single piece of food they had in there every bottle of water everything they had passing it out

[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_02]: being true North Carolina true American the community that's in western North Carolina

[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_02]: they're not asking for motorcars they're not know everything no matter what they're going through

[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_02]: they're there helping their and it don't matter what they're going through

[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_02]: their sense of community the pride they have in their and the western community

[00:14:25] [SPEAKER_02]: it's the true heart of North Carolina and

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_02]: it's it it gives you a little hope it gives you a little pride to see that humanity and what they really are

[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_02]: it there's no device that these people are hurting and they'll step out of their own hurt to help somebody else

[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_02]: yeah there was one of the first hand I wanted to I wanted to share that

[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_00]: now I appreciate it I appreciate you making the run up there with the supplies and reporting back and making this call

[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_00]: and one of the things that I learned pretty quickly when I got up there years ago was how

[00:15:02] [SPEAKER_00]: there is a you know there's a mentality of you know this is our mountain

[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_00]: you know it's insular and all this and so that's the first that was the first impression

[00:15:12] [SPEAKER_00]: but once once you're okay with them then like your your part of them

[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's it happens very fast

[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_02]: even the short chances of getting the stop and the routes that you have to take

[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_02]: yeah for the amount of people to get out and it's shaking me I'm not going just to see it first time

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_02]: but you get out just take on wash my hands work with change we're doing different things

[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_02]: and for the people like you know thank you for being here thank you they're not

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_02]: it's to see that that real life and what's very dark up there is it's a beautiful thing and that's

[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_02]: the heart of what they are nobody's worried about fossil fuels e.v. is nothing they just

[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_02]: they want to be alright and they're going to get through it together right can you get there

[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_00]: that's the question can you get there if you can get there with stuff and help

[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_00]: it doesn't matter so where did you where did you get to where did you get up to

[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_02]: at we made it right outside of going into a old fort yeah they're closed down at 86

[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_02]: yeah you know it's ominous feeling to be running in dump trucks and construction vehicles with

[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_02]: National Guard vehicles and police coming from all over the state to support you know

[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_02]: they're under state and it's 26 we got we got to go into 26 and I tell you when you're the

[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_02]: only person on the road for a few miles and you see just all they could do is cut them

[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_02]: down to sheer right at the road to open it up to get as much road as they can right it

[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_02]: was almost it was close to palcalyptics don't it's the closest thing I've ever seen to

[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_02]: being surreal where I felt like I was in a dream yeah and it's never seen nothing

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_02]: like it but just to see that I mean it even brightened my day it made me feel better made

[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_02]: me feel proud to be a caroline yeah that's that we're going through this but the true

[00:17:12] [SPEAKER_02]: heart of people I feel Americans and humans in general is that right there

[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Paul I appreciate the call man thank you for having me I love Shopee alright thanks dude

[00:17:24] [SPEAKER_00]: remember there was I did an interview years ago with the I think it was a bishop

[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Catholic Bishop and this was when Pope I think it was after Pope John Paul had died

[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_00]: and he talked about in the interviews talking about how Pope John Paul was

[00:17:38] [SPEAKER_00]: suffering from Parkinson's but he would still go out and do all of these public

[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_00]: appearances even though he looked terrible you know and people would ask

[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_00]: you know like why does he put himself through this because it was grueling for

[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_00]: him to do these things he was in you know pain and there is a there is a lesson

[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_00]: that when bad things happen to good people but bad things happen it is through

[00:18:04] [SPEAKER_00]: those bad things that we are called to serve others so that's what this should

[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_00]: be a time for us to heed the call to serve others alright holiday season

[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_00]: approaches and here's an idea give a gift that makes a difference with simply

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_00]: North Carolina based small businesses just visit simply NC goods dot com

[00:19:19] [SPEAKER_00]: slash Pete and check them out that simply NC goods dot com slash Pete

[00:19:24] [SPEAKER_00]: and thanks for being a part of simply NC good story I got a text message here

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_00]: an email I should say wondering why so many North Carolina roads washed

[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_00]: out countries like Costa Rica have lots of rain mountains and narrow

[00:19:38] [SPEAKER_00]: roads I don't know you're comparing us to Costa Rica I don't do they get like a

[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_00]: lot of hurricanes and do they have I don't know the topography or the road

[00:19:52] [SPEAKER_00]: construction engineering of the Costa Rica roads I'd like to think our

[00:20:00] [SPEAKER_00]: roads are probably a little bit better but when you have entire

[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_00]: you know sides of mountains that that fall off into the valley they

[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_00]: tend to take a lot of stuff with them so I would suspect that's largely the

[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_00]: problem Mark says Pete the last thing the rescue area needs is for any

[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_00]: politician showing up for a photo op wielding a shovel and filling a sandbag

[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_00]: the resources diverted to quote security etc for such visits only diminishes

[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_00]: actual work and relief efforts staying away is the best thing they can do

[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_00]: by the way the shot and Freud guy is a real dipstick I still haven't heard

[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_00]: from my friend that lives in Fletcher and has a manufacturing business

[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_00]: in Weaverville and praying for him and others and then I got a mess or

[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_00]: a tweet from E Scott Klein who says Americans in a second I got to open

[00:20:58] [SPEAKER_00]: it up as it's a lengthy or tweet Americans in North Carolina South

[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Carolina Georgia Florida and Tennessee are not going to be recused

[00:21:09] [SPEAKER_00]: that should be rescued yeah they're not going to be rescued and have

[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_00]: their towns rebuilt by EVs or beta males it will be done by trucks

[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_00]: and truckers construction workers planes pilots etc vehicles powered by

[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_00]: fossil fuels are coming to the rescue I mean that's a better way to make the

[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_00]: point than Fred tried to make but when you start with is it too early for

[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_00]: shot and Freud then yeah your to your you're taking glee in somebody

[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_00]: else's misery I want you to suffer look at you suffering also by the

[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_00]: way I'm not sure you know who else is going to be doing a lot of the

[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_00]: construction E Scott Klein is illegal aliens they're going to be doing a

[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_00]: lot of the work to so it's so there won't be built by

[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_00]: EVs beta males or American citizens you could throw that in there too

[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_00]: probably I mean more like more than like right

[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_00]: again like you can point that out that's fine there's a way to point

[00:22:16] [SPEAKER_00]: it out and not sound like a jerk but Fred did not do that

[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_00]: alright let me go over to James hello James welcome to the show

[00:22:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey Pete yeah you just you just summed up what my thoughts were yeah Fred did a

[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_03]: pretty poor job of presenting the argument but what when I saw a story this

[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_03]: morning that the for some climate crazy guy said oh yeah 50% of that rain

[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_03]: could have been avoided had we had better climate policy I just wrote my

[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_03]: mind I'm like well that didn't take long right you know and the fact is

[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_03]: is that from this point forward the live saved in the rescue effort is

[00:22:53] [SPEAKER_03]: powered by petroleum helicopters planes trucks cars side by side all the police

[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_03]: and all the people that are coming to the rescue in their utility trucks are

[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_03]: all running on petrol so right you know that point needs to be made it

[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_03]: is true we are decades away from being able to do this rescue effort with

[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_03]: solar panels and hydrogen and wind or whatever yeah that's important

[00:23:17] [SPEAKER_00]: no it is it and I'm fine pointing it out and I react the same way when I've seen

[00:23:22] [SPEAKER_00]: the people making that comment like you did about the climate change stuff

[00:23:27] [SPEAKER_00]: like again read the room guys like this they're still digging people

[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_00]: out of their collapsed homes and right you know you may feel like this is

[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_00]: the perfect opportunity to say well you know actually we should have been

[00:23:41] [SPEAKER_00]: doing some climate change stuff earlier in this never would have happened

[00:23:45] [SPEAKER_00]: like first off you don't know that second of all not the time this is not

[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_00]: the time to start trying to spike a football for some political point

[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_00]: because here's the thing like you don't win anybody you're not winning

[00:23:56] [SPEAKER_00]: any converts over with that argument at the time right it's not happening

[00:24:01] [SPEAKER_03]: and what your trucker said they called in a moment ago that was uplifting

[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_03]: I've got a cousin that's stuck up there and they've had a few days food on hand

[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_03]: but now at the point where they've got to get some supplies in a neighborhood

[00:24:14] [SPEAKER_03]: with a side by side was taking them to wherever the supplies are

[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_03]: they're in Jefferson West Jefferson and the sad thing is probably most of

[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_03]: the grocery stores are destroyed the one that's open that had supplies

[00:24:26] [SPEAKER_03]: is empty because it was the only one open and the restock isn't coming

[00:24:31] [SPEAKER_03]: for a few days so it's it's scary as heck man I really I'm praying for those

[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_03]: folks and we contributed some water up to a local outfit that was hauling up there

[00:24:40] [SPEAKER_03]: people volunteering to pick up trucks again yeah by petrol to get to get some aid

[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_03]: up there you know so it's it's everyone needs chip in man big deal yeah now I

[00:24:50] [SPEAKER_00]: got you James I appreciate the call thank you man I mean jump over and

[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll try Steve here next hello Steve welcome to the show

[00:24:59] [SPEAKER_01]: hey Pete how are you today I'm alright what's going on well I just got a thought

[00:25:04] [SPEAKER_01]: here I want to see what you think about it but you know we've got a lot of

[00:25:08] [SPEAKER_01]: private citizens with helicopters going up there and helping but I just happened

[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_01]: to think Fort Bragg's just down the street and they got helicopters and

[00:25:16] [SPEAKER_01]: they got an engineering battalion that their job is building roads bridges in

[00:25:20] [SPEAKER_01]: air pair strips flying the world aren't we bringing these guys in to come up

[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_01]: there we got special forces down there that could be repelling down ropes out of

[00:25:30] [SPEAKER_01]: helicopters and helping somebody this medically hurt we got all that help

[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_01]: sitting right down the road and I don't understand why we haven't had a

[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_01]: governor or president or somebody activate that access to that so well I

[00:25:43] [SPEAKER_00]: think it's your thought I think you just answered your own question okay but

[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_00]: it's a good idea oh yeah I mean look there's a I think it's the 82nd

[00:25:57] [SPEAKER_00]: deploy within hours anywhere around the world

[00:26:01] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah and they can you know repel out of helicopters bring people out put

[00:26:09] [SPEAKER_00]: people in they can do all sorts of stuff and I can only imagine the

[00:26:14] [SPEAKER_00]: frustration that these guys may be having in the fact that they have not

[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_01]: been sent yeah it breaks my heart because all that stuff right down there

[00:26:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and these boys like you said these people that are really stranded up there

[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_01]: you got to have somebody repelling down a rope and helping somebody with a

[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_01]: broke leg or a heart attack or something you I just don't get it Pete but

[00:26:37] [SPEAKER_01]: anyway thought I'd throw it out to you and see if I wasn't just crazy

[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_00]: no you're not Steve I appreciate the call it's a it is a question that I

[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_00]: have seen asked and I don't know the answer to it

[00:26:50] [SPEAKER_00]: but there are a lot of resources in this state that could be deployed and

[00:26:58] [SPEAKER_00]: apparently has not been and so I don't have an answer for that

[00:27:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I did see a piece by Jordan Shachtel I think is how he pronounces it he

[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_00]: writes over at substack he's a journalist and

[00:27:14] [SPEAKER_00]: he did an accounting for where the Biden administration officials are and

[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_00]: have been for the last five days and it's not good

[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_00]: it's not good so when I was a kid my grandpa died with Alzheimer's

[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_00]: and before he died my mom and my dad and all of us really help take care of

[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_00]: him as he got progressively worse 40 years ago there were no treatments

[00:27:38] [SPEAKER_00]: and not much support for caregivers and family things are different today

[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_00]: because of the work of so many people including the Alzheimer's Association

[00:27:46] [SPEAKER_00]: of Western North Carolina it's a great organization with awesome people

[00:27:51] [SPEAKER_00]: they've got huge hearts I've been a supporter for like 25 years this cause

[00:27:54] [SPEAKER_00]: means a lot to me I participate in the annual walk to end Alzheimer's

[00:27:59] [SPEAKER_00]: and I am leading a Charlotte team this year it's called Pete's Pack

[00:28:03] [SPEAKER_00]: you can sign up and join the team and walk with me it's on October

[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_00]: 19th at truest field in Uptown sign up at ALZ.org

[00:28:11] [SPEAKER_00]: and then just look for my team Pete's Pack and there's also a link in the

[00:28:16] [SPEAKER_00]: podcast description here also I'm going to be emceeing the Gastonia

[00:28:19] [SPEAKER_00]: walk on October 5th so make a team and join us or make a donation to help me

[00:28:24] [SPEAKER_00]: hit my goal I would really appreciate it there are a bunch of other

[00:28:27] [SPEAKER_00]: walks around the Carolinas and you can go to ALZ.org for all of the

[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_00]: dates and locations we are closer than ever to stopping Alzheimer's

[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_00]: and if you can help us get there we would really appreciate it will you

[00:28:41] [SPEAKER_00]: come walk with me for a different future for families for more time

[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_00]: for treatments this is why I walk couple of messages here

[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Scott says Pete you are right in tragic times like these

[00:28:54] [SPEAKER_00]: real Americans don't see blue or red that's just what the media propaganda

[00:28:58] [SPEAKER_00]: machine gets low IQ idiots like that poor fella that called in to believe

[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_00]: we are better than that well I think part of it is also

[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned earlier that he's that he I think he was you know there's not

[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know about him but people feel helpless and it creates frustration

[00:29:19] [SPEAKER_00]: and anger and they lash out in ways that they may later regret

[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_00]: and some people are not equipped to handle this stuff

[00:29:28] [SPEAKER_00]: they're not some people are not equipped I hear Brett Winterbull talk about this

[00:29:33] [SPEAKER_00]: you know if if politics like this gets you this amped up you know

[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_00]: oh there he goes right there Winterbull outside the door he'll say like this

[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_00]: and this is not for you you know like if you can't watch your favorite sports team

[00:29:47] [SPEAKER_00]: lose without it ruining your whole day or week or month or whatever

[00:29:52] [SPEAKER_00]: then like you probably shouldn't be you probably shouldn't be watching that sports anymore

[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_00]: because it's it it's not healthy for you

[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I was just telling a colleague who was you know getting upset at some of the videos

[00:30:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I said just stop stop watching the videos

[00:30:08] [SPEAKER_00]: don't don't expose yourself if you if you if it affects you like this

[00:30:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and I don't know what's wrong with me that I can watch this stuff and it

[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_00]: doesn't it doesn't sit with me like it sits with someone else

[00:30:21] [SPEAKER_00]: sometimes many times

[00:30:25] [SPEAKER_00]: it does affect me but it's

[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know it's it's just different I think because of the way I see people react to stuff

[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_00]: and like stop putting this into your into your mind don't watch videos

[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_00]: see the images if it's going to have this kind of deleterious effect on you

[00:30:43] [SPEAKER_00]: for a long time you know it's just that's not healthy so

[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and I got a message from Ellen who says

[00:30:50] [SPEAKER_00]: our daughter and her fiance live in Asheville in an apartment complex on a

[00:30:54] [SPEAKER_00]: on a big hill like thousands their power is out no water etc

[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_00]: her father and I are actually on our way up to bring them supplies this is our second

[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_00]: trip up in three days on Monday when we arrived we were taken aback by the

[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_00]: camaraderie of many of the people living there

[00:31:10] [SPEAKER_00]: notes are posted on the front door for help with child care the work out

[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Jim has become an open space where neighbors are donating everything from

[00:31:18] [SPEAKER_00]: water and baby formula to toilet paper and food

[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_00]: because the complex does not have a backup generator

[00:31:24] [SPEAKER_00]: and the elevators are not working on my daughter's floor the neighbors are

[00:31:28] [SPEAKER_00]: closely monitoring an elderly couple that cannot use the stairs

[00:31:31] [SPEAKER_00]: checking on them and diligently bringing them supplies

[00:31:34] [SPEAKER_00]: our daughter and soon to be son-in-law have been going to the restaurant

[00:31:38] [SPEAKER_00]: where they work and boiling water for the neighbors bringing it back

[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_00]: to the apartment in growlers which are the big

[00:31:45] [SPEAKER_00]: you know jars that usually fill with beer

[00:31:49] [SPEAKER_00]: also they have been cooking chicken wings for the fire department

[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_00]: since the restaurant has no power or sorry sorry

[00:31:56] [SPEAKER_00]: since the restaurant does have power so they've been making chicken wings for the fire department

[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_00]: it is incredibly terrible what has happened to beautiful western North Carolina

[00:32:03] [SPEAKER_00]: it is also beautiful to witness the human spirit and love at work

[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_00]: so thank you Ellen I appreciate that call or the email rather

[00:32:16] [SPEAKER_00]: and I'm glad to share the story

[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_00]: because there were stories like this all over the place

[00:32:22] [SPEAKER_00]: look for the helpers

[00:32:24] [SPEAKER_00]: there are always people helping

[00:32:27] [SPEAKER_00]: it will restore your faith

[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_00]: um

[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_00]: so I mentioned before the break

[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_00]: that Jordan Schachtel

[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I think is or Skechtel

[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_00]: anyway at Substack he's a writer

[00:32:45] [SPEAKER_00]: and at Substack he reported on the whereabouts of

[00:32:49] [SPEAKER_00]: the top administration officials during this disaster

[00:32:54] [SPEAKER_00]: and he points out President Biden spent Friday

[00:32:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Saturday and then Sunday at the beach in Delaware

[00:33:01] [SPEAKER_00]: according to his public schedule

[00:33:02] [SPEAKER_00]: and when he was asked about this by the way he said he had been on the phone for two hours

[00:33:07] [SPEAKER_00]: talking about the disaster

[00:33:09] [SPEAKER_00]: he got upset he got angry at a reporter who asked him

[00:33:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I was like it's called a phone I've been on a phone for two hours

[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_00]: okay

[00:33:17] [SPEAKER_00]: on Monday he was at the White House to celebrate the US Olympic team

[00:33:21] [SPEAKER_00]: when asked what he's doing to help Helene response

[00:33:25] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah here it is he says Biden said he was on the phone for two hours yesterday

[00:33:29] [SPEAKER_00]: while he was in reality sitting on a beach in Delaware

[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Vice President Kamala Harris spent the weekend campaigning

[00:33:35] [SPEAKER_00]: and raising money on the West Coast

[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_00]: hosting high dollar fundraisers and rallies in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vegas

[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_00]: oh I did get a message from a friend who said that

[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_00]: while they were in the mountains

[00:33:49] [SPEAKER_00]: they saw Los Angeles Fire Department rolling in

[00:33:54] [SPEAKER_00]: the LA Fire Department sent their trucks

[00:33:58] [SPEAKER_00]: to North Carolina

[00:34:00] [SPEAKER_00]: did we check their voter registration on the way?

[00:34:04] [SPEAKER_00]: after some blowback her team then released a photo

[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_00]: of her sitting on a plane with a she got like a pen in her hand

[00:34:12] [SPEAKER_00]: writing on blank paper nothing on the pages

[00:34:14] [SPEAKER_00]: and her headset not plugged into the phone

[00:34:17] [SPEAKER_00]: but claiming she's on the phone with FEMA

[00:34:19] [SPEAKER_00]: so staged photo op

[00:34:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Pete Bootygig the Transportation Secretary

[00:34:25] [SPEAKER_00]: despite being the senior infrastructure guy in the cabinet

[00:34:28] [SPEAKER_00]: nowhere to be found public schedule has not been updated since mid-August

[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_00]: DHS Chief Alejandro Mallorca's who presides over FEMA

[00:34:36] [SPEAKER_00]: haven't seen him

[00:34:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Interior Secretary Deb Haaland was in Washington

[00:34:44] [SPEAKER_00]: to celebrate the Olympic team at the White House

[00:34:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack is in Italy

[00:34:50] [SPEAKER_00]: meeting with the G7 nations talking about how to impose

[00:34:53] [SPEAKER_00]: climate change policies upon humanity

[00:34:55] [SPEAKER_00]: EPA Administrator spent last week in New York City

[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_00]: at an event called Climate Week NYC

[00:35:00] [SPEAKER_00]: the US Small Business Administrator spent the weekend in Nebraska

[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_00]: celebrating Native American tribes and the FEMA director

[00:35:07] [SPEAKER_00]: is the only mildly senior level Biden-Harris official on the ground

[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_00]: in the disaster area

[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_00]: so there's your account
