The North Carolina House passed a bill to increase the penalties for rioting. In a floor speech, Democrat Abe Jones from Raleigh lit into rioters and their apologists - saying the "the police were told to stand down" in Raleigh as "these people tore the hell out of downtown." Jones said he despises the violent actors, and that "many people of liberal, progressive persuasion who are Democrats don't tolerate it either.” But that he’s been “waiting and waiting and waiting for some of us to say it, for God's sake! I'm saying it today. I despise that kind of conduct. If the punishment is a little harsh, so be it!
