The North Carolina Board of Education met this week to discuss approval of new standards for Social Studies 7 History in Grades K-12. Republicans objected to the "tone" of the standards that case America as oppressive, without highlighting progress and exceptionalism. Democrats denied there was any such tone, and argued that systemic racism exists and needs to be part of instruction.
