[00:00:27] your support. Programming note only half of the show today, it's shrink flation, we're

[00:00:36] doing half of the show. No actually at 1.30 we have the UNC Tar Heels basketball game

[00:00:43] getting underway and so I will I'll go on to the bench and let the Tar Heels starters take

[00:00:52] over at 1.30 that being said, I have we are so we always post our each hour becomes its

[00:01:00] own podcast so if you get the Pete Kaliner Show podcast on any of the podcasting platforms

[00:01:05] you'll get that but I'll be uploading a second separate bonus segment after the show was

[00:01:14] over to this way don't worry you will still get all of the content okay now some of it

[00:01:20] won't be on the air here but I'll just be cussing a lot no I'm kidding I'm not going to do

[00:01:25] that but I have a separate episode that will go up today as well. So I saw this story

[00:01:31] come across the the CBS news wire before the show and Apple apparently is getting sued

[00:01:43] by the Biden administration not sure why I think it's because Joe Biden prefers bananas

[00:01:51] when he eating snacks on his walks no he it's one of the most valuable and influential

[00:01:58] companies according to CBS news illegally accused of illegally engaging in anti competitive

[00:02:05] behavior in an effort to build a quote moat around its smartphone monopoly and maximize

[00:02:13] its profits now I see the problem okay so the Justice Department is making these allegations

[00:02:22] in what CBS news calls a blockbuster anti-trust lawsuit that it was filed in federal court

[00:02:28] in New Jersey the Justice Department accused the company of using app development rules

[00:02:35] iPhone features and hardware which people use every day if you have an iPhone which

[00:02:42] full disclosure I do not. I have never felt the need to pay more money for a heavier phone

[00:02:50] that is less compatible with virtually all other operating systems so I have opted not

[00:02:55] to do that although I do recognize that people who have the iPhones and wait hours in line

[00:03:01] to get the latest iPhone they look down on me I do recognize that I don't care but I recognize

[00:03:10] that they do look down on me. Look some of my best friends have iPhones my wife has an

[00:03:16] iPhone so I am familiar with the iPhone with the iOS system I don't prefer it. I just don't

[00:03:25] my first phone was a droid and I have stayed with droid ever since and you know people don't

[00:03:30] realize this outside of America though droid is the biggest platform to the most popular

[00:03:35] most widely used and look I understand if you are if you got an Apple MacBook or whatever

[00:03:41] if you are an Applehead you like all the Apple stuff it makes sense to be all tied in together

[00:03:47] with all the Apple products right it makes sense to me rush was a huge Apple aficionado

[00:03:52] and Apple a Cianato I believe is what they called anyway Apple heads right them the the synergies

[00:04:01] that you get when you have all of the same stuff working together that's totally fine and look I

[00:04:06] get also like the Macbook Pro or whatever those things are good if you're doing a lot of graphic

[00:04:12] design or video editing and that sort of thing I did use Apple products briefly when I was

[00:04:18] like I don't know seven and they first came out my first computer was an Apple and I was writing

[00:04:24] the basic code you know which is why I'm prepared nowadays working in media I've already learned

[00:04:31] to code I mean it's basic and I don't remember anything but am I allowed to say learned to code

[00:04:39] on the right I think I can say that on the radio still anyway the company employed a series of

[00:04:46] quote is according to the lawsuit a series of shape shifting rules and restrictions in its

[00:04:51] app store in the guidelines that apps had to meet in order to be in the app store and then they put

[00:05:00] a whole bunch of these rules and restrictions that would shape shift in the developer agreements

[00:05:05] and what the rules and restrictions and their shape shifting is allowed Apple to do was to extract

[00:05:12] higher fees according to the government thwart innovation which if any entity or institution

[00:05:20] knows about thwarting innovation it is the government here so also they say it offered a less secure

[00:05:27] or degraded user experience and it throttled competitive alternatives

[00:05:36] specifically the investigators say that Apple boxed out its smaller competitors by blocking

[00:05:46] the expansion of what are known as super apps super apps which I think I had one time at TGI

[00:05:55] Fridays just kept coming and coming anyway they allow for multi functional use disrupting messaging

[00:06:03] formats and capabilities between Apple and non Apple devices okay now I will say this that's true

[00:06:09] I have personal experience with this okay because there are people like we you probably got one

[00:06:16] like the family group chat right you got a bunch of family members you probably have a couple of

[00:06:21] you got some group chats that are like you and all the adults in the family then you got

[00:06:27] another group chat that's got the kids in there when they've grown up and they get their smart phones

[00:06:31] and now they can they can text message our fine we gotta set up another group chat let the kids

[00:06:35] know it was gonna make sure that the stuff you're putting in the adult group chats not going to be

[00:06:40] in a kid group chat right so I have noticed that when you try to send stuff or people send stuff

[00:06:49] into these group chats I don't get them the same way my wife does because we she has an Apple

[00:06:54] phone I got a droid phone and you can see that somebody sends something and I get it either as

[00:07:00] like a separate message from the person or it doesn't load fast enough and usually it's after

[00:07:06] some sort of an update comes down they kind of break their their apps and stuff they also have

[00:07:11] different colors for the yeah for the little boxes that your texts are written in and apparently

[00:07:19] this is a problem for the government they don't like the different colors which is weird because

[00:07:24] I thought the government was moving us away from like color blindness and more towards a a diverse

[00:07:30] experience but yeah I don't know but there are definite problems with the functionality between

[00:07:38] the different platforms right we've all seen it also they monopolize the use of tapped pay

[00:07:45] functions on iPhones to only the Apple wallet so basically what Apple does right and I know this

[00:07:51] is going to come as a shock which is that they they try to funnel everybody over to all of their

[00:07:56] products and they build all and they buy up all of these different apps and related products and

[00:08:02] they'll and they connect them to their system Google got in trouble for doing the same thing if I

[00:08:05] recall correctly discrepancies and sending messages between Apple and non Apple products have

[00:08:11] long been a thorn in the side of users like me as media quality editing capabilities and even

[00:08:17] the color of the messages themselves change depending on the devices being used well that is

[00:08:21] the other thing I'll get like oh hey here's your niece or nephew in their recital and they send

[00:08:26] the video and it it looks like it's underwater and it sounds even worse right so according to the

[00:08:32] prosecutors this signals to users that rival smartphones are lower quality because the experience

[00:08:37] of messaging friends and family who do not own iPhones is worse even though Apple not the rival

[00:08:42] smartphone is the cause of that degraded user experience hold the phone no pun intended wait a minute

[00:08:51] so you're telling me that Apple intentionally degrades my niece's dance recital video that they

[00:09:00] did that on purpose they did that because I have a droid and they want me to switch over to Apple

[00:09:07] which I've already made clear I'm not going to because I'm not going to spend more money for a heavier

[00:09:12] phone you know and then lose all my contacts on that although nowadays you could probably get them

[00:09:17] all transferred I think but I'm sorry I'm so I'm so yeah I'm so into the droid platform

[00:09:24] they've got all of my information already you know why give it to another corporate entity anyway

[00:09:30] there are alleged anti competitive practices did not stop there they allegedly work to stifle the

[00:09:35] use of non-Apple smart watches by limiting how users interacted with them on the iPhone and used

[00:09:41] cloud streaming location services and web browsers on iPhones to snuff out smaller rivals okay so

[00:09:49] you got we got that going on um what else oh we have a we have a monopoly on and some

[00:09:59] concerns over a monopoly on brain implants yeah brain implant the very first brain implant did

[00:10:08] you know that if the first human has been has been implanted yeah neural link 29 year old guy who

[00:10:19] was paralyzed from the shoulders down in a diving accident eight years ago he got the first

[00:10:25] neural link brain implant and they did a live stream uh yesterday of I think it was yesterday uh

[00:10:34] and they showed how he's using it it's amazing um but yes there will be there will be another

[00:10:43] episode it's extra content it's going to be as a podcast so it won't be alive on the radio because

[00:10:49] the tar heels will be on there but you'll get like a I think it's like a 40 or 42 minute

[00:10:55] podcast over there it'll be posted up after uh the show goes up too uh already so

[00:11:02] going over this uh a couple of monopolies over the apples uh and then uh and now we got

[00:11:09] brain implants right neural link not aware of anybody else that has been successful in the

[00:11:15] brain implant space um neural link introduced the first human subject to receive the company's

[00:11:21] brain implant a 29 year old man uh paralyzed in a diving accident about eight years ago they did

[00:11:27] a live stream it was like nine minutes long and uh they did it on uh twitter x x twitter right

[00:11:36] elon musk's platform which by the way uh neural link is co-founded by elon musk which um

[00:11:46] he said he's interested in getting this neural link stuff perfected because he believes it is

[00:11:53] the only way that humans are going to be able to compete against AI which is kind of terrifying

[00:12:03] that's kind of terrifying it's a little terrifying okay it's a little scary all right i was let's

[00:12:07] not exaggerate but it is a little scary right and uh the uh uh the first recipient of the brain

[00:12:14] implant his name is nolyn arbal and uh he said since he has gotten the implant he has now been

[00:12:21] able to play online chess and you you you could see him do it he's moving the cursor uh around on

[00:12:30] the screen he's also playing the video game civilization which he loves it's a good game um but he

[00:12:37] but he would get like sores if he was using like the stick using like his his mouth or whatever

[00:12:42] like you can't use these things um for long periods of time because she gets sores and now it's inside

[00:12:48] the brain and so he just thinks it and it goes he describes learning how to use the brain computer

[00:12:54] interface he says i would attempt to move my right hand or my left hand and he would try to move it

[00:13:00] forward and back and then from there he says it just became more intuitive to start imagining

[00:13:05] the cursor moving and once you start doing that then it just moves it's reading the brain waves

[00:13:13] a neuralink engineer was with him and he's in the video saying they're going to release more

[00:13:18] information in coming days uh the company got the green light from the usfda last year to move ahead

[00:13:25] with the initial human trial and then it began recruiting paralyzed participants in the fall

[00:13:30] to test the device this is truly amazing right if you're able to give people because this is just

[00:13:36] the first step right that if you're able to now control stuff with your brain how i mean how far

[00:13:43] of a leap is it to say fit them with exoskeleton suits and now they can do stuff right it's pretty amazing

[00:13:53] yeah like okay still kind of terrifying with the a i stuff but like that's really promising that's

[00:13:59] like i you know i want to look at the the pros here as well glass is kind of half full

[00:14:04] aside from that half empty side that's really terrifying but other than that i think it's okay

[00:14:09] got a message here from chris who says on the subject of interpreting brain waves

[00:14:16] think of one word google how long before google will be using android to read every user's mind

[00:14:24] hmm yeah that's true well i mean yeah i don't know what i don't know what to do about it i really don't like

[00:14:36] i like i feel like i already lost the whole battle over putting the um the various listening

[00:14:42] devices in your homes i don't want to say their names because if you say the names and they turn

[00:14:46] themselves on and that sort of thing in people's houses so i try not to do that uh but let's just

[00:14:51] say it rhymes with eerie you know but starts with an s um and and you know these these manufacturers

[00:14:59] these companies they say oh we don't listen the devices aren't listening to you

[00:15:04] which okay do you think i'm an idiot how else does it know to turn on

[00:15:10] it's got to be listening for me to say its name right so why would you tell me it's not listening

[00:15:16] it has to be listening otherwise what kind of product are you selling me so uh but i feel like

[00:15:23] i've kind of lost that that argument and look it's just so darn efficient you know

[00:15:29] it's convenient yeah i get like you get the one sign on for every account you use it's just yeah

[00:15:36] it's like they get you they get you uh adrian says android is the name of the platform droid is a line

[00:15:44] of smartphones made by motorola oh oh i did not know that okay yeah i don't i'm trying to remember

[00:15:52] i had a i think i've only had two smartphones yeah when i learned the hard way when they said oh

[00:16:00] you're what when they say uh you've qualified for an upgrade mm-hmm yeah learn what that meant

[00:16:07] that's yeah of course the original the original phone i got i remember they would uh well i mean

[00:16:16] really the initial um uh phones that we would get uh they would charge us more for the uh for

[00:16:22] the phone calling than the texting remember that you have to have all these crazy uh family plans

[00:16:28] and stuff in order to have the unlimited minutes to to talk over the phone and everything else and

[00:16:34] and then they started shifting away and they were like no no no send text it uses less bandwidth

[00:16:39] you know i wanted everybody to text uh and uh and so and then they like switched over uh now we'll

[00:16:46] give you all of the talk for free all these free minutes and stuff and uh they were given away

[00:16:50] phones because they were selling the plans and now yeah now you got to pay for the phones too it's

[00:16:57] a lot of times i mean they do run promotions and all that but yeah i think i've only ever purchased

[00:17:02] two phones because i keep them until they break them not i break them the companies break them

[00:17:08] don't tell me they don't break them you cannot convince me you will not convince me that they do not

[00:17:14] stuff your phones with so much stuff update after update after update that they eventually break your

[00:17:19] phone so then you gotta go get another one because your current phone doesn't work i've had it

[00:17:24] happened enough times with enough phones between me and my wife uh i know the game much like pamacority

[00:17:32] so um this from the Dallas Morning News um back and forth court rulings over Texas new immigration law

[00:17:42] left local and state law enforcement agencies struggling to understand their mandate as the legal

[00:17:47] ground repeatedly shifted all right so if you've been confused by uh what's been going on with the

[00:17:55] Texas law on whether or not they can you know try to uh kick people out of their state or apprehend

[00:18:01] illegal immigrants or whatever uh rest assured you're not the only one okay because Monday afternoon

[00:18:07] the US Supreme Court extended extended an order that blocked a Texas bill senate bill for and that bill

[00:18:17] sought to give the state a role in arresting and deporting migrants or illegal immigrants or

[00:18:27] unauthorized immigrants or illegal aliens only by the way i did here did you hear this yesterday um

[00:18:37] Brett Winterble started his show talking about a an appearance he did with like some Emerson college

[00:18:44] students and and alum or whatever and they're they're talking about i think they were talking

[00:18:48] about the immigration debate or something and Brett used the term illegal immigrants and one of the

[00:18:53] students said that because he used that term everything else he said is disqualifying which like

[00:19:00] that's a very convenient escape hatch to be able to pull right and jump through when you've been

[00:19:06] because if i know Brett that kid probably had his took us handed to him on the merits of the argument

[00:19:11] and so he just then doesn't want to have to address the merits of the arguments so just say

[00:19:16] you used a term i don't like it so everything you've said is now disqualified which is absurd

[00:19:21] it's absolutely absurd right you lose you lose the debate kid that said it's over

[00:19:27] you can virtue signal all you want but you still lost you're a loser okay um

[00:19:33] that's see that's what i would have said i know i think Brett is nicer than that i don't think he

[00:19:36] would have done that but if he did he didn't say it in his story yesterday but

[00:19:42] the supreme court extends the order um blocking Senate bill for only to reverse course Tuesday morning

[00:19:53] and give Texas permission to enforce the law which had been struck down as unconstitutional by a

[00:19:58] federal judge back in February okay so that's the US Supreme Court did that that changed again

[00:20:05] at like 10 o'clock at night Tuesday when the fifth US Circuit Court of Appeals then blocked the bill

[00:20:10] again the appeals court followed by hearing oral arguments yesterday about whether Texas should be

[00:20:17] allowed to enforce the law while it's judges determine whether it's constitutional or not

[00:20:23] the legal whiplash had some law enforcement agencies scrambling to receive guidance from the state

[00:20:30] or the Texas Department of Public Safety uh the agency that would be in charge of handling a

[00:20:35] bulk of the arrests under Senate bill four in maverick county home to eagle pass and as i understand

[00:20:43] it Tom Cruise the pilot uh that has been the epicenter of governor Greg Abbott's border security

[00:20:49] crackdown eagle pass the sheriff there Tom Schmerber he says that's his name Schmerber he says that

[00:20:56] his deputies did not enforce the law for the nine hours that it was in effect so just in case you

[00:21:03] were wondering they had nine hours to try to do this law and they're like we didn't we couldn't

[00:21:09] we didn't do it so once again we're fighting over who has the monopoly here on immigration

[00:21:17] enforcement the federal government says it has the sole authority to enforce immigration law

[00:21:24] and that means to not enforce it too and woe unto you who attempts to enforce the laws that we

[00:21:30] refuse to enforce all right do the current world events have you wondering whether we are teetering

[00:21:36] on the edge of catastrophe are you concerned it's going to reach our shores okay so what are you

[00:21:42] doing about your concerns let me help Carolina readiness supply at Carolina readiness dot com whether

[00:21:48] you're looking to expand your emergency preparedness supplies or you have no idea where to even begin

[00:21:53] Carolina readiness supply can help you food water purifiers tools first aid kits instructional

[00:21:59] materials camping and hiking supplies even because being prepared is just smart Carolina readiness

[00:22:05] supply as two thousand square feet of supplies and educational materials that you'll need for any

[00:22:10] kind of emergency in wainsville and always at Carolina readiness dot com veteran owned Carolina

[00:22:16] readiness supply will you be ready when the lights go out the law in taxes as it was passed but is

[00:22:23] now being blocked by the courts allows police and counties that border Mexico to make arrests if

[00:22:32] they see someone crossing illegally it could also be enforced elsewhere in Texas if someone is

[00:22:39] arrested on suspicion of another violation and and a fingerprint taken during jail booking

[00:22:49] links them to a suspected reentry violation okay so it's very similar to the old 287g program

[00:22:58] that was uh you know that was written into the law decades ago and nobody really knew it was

[00:23:05] there and then mecklenburg county sheriff Jim pentagraph a democrat was at some conference some place

[00:23:11] as i recall uh he retold the story uh back in like the early two thousands and he said he hears about

[00:23:18] this 287g program which is named based on the statute um and so he talks to this sheriff who had

[00:23:25] mentioned it at this conference and sheriff pentagraph then starts implementing it in mecklenburg

[00:23:30] county and then the butch administration hires him he goes into retirement and he goes around

[00:23:37] the country implementing the 287g program around uh the nation and it basically deputizes uh or

[00:23:44] federalizes i should say some deputies in the sense that they can now get access to these federal

[00:23:49] databases and they can screen people coming into the jail they're not going out and arresting people

[00:23:55] on suspicion of being in the country illegally it's somebody who is already brought to the jail for

[00:24:02] some other reason and then you run them through the databases and then you find out oh they're not

[00:24:08] supposed to be here so it's kind of a similar deal now the White House press secretary Karinj

[00:24:14] Jean Pierre um she called the law quote harmful and to be clear she wants to be very clear uh for clarity

[00:24:22] sake uh that it's not just harmful but also clearly to be clear as she stated prior it's also she

[00:24:28] believes clearly unconstitutional to be clear and uh she said it would burden law enforcement while

[00:24:34] creating confusion and she called on congressional Republicans you know what's coming next to uh to

[00:24:41] settle the issue with a federal border security bill right which is why which is why the Biden

[00:24:51] administration has been fighting Texas so vehemently to prevent them from enforcing any kind of

[00:24:59] border control laws right think about that they want us to believe that they are truly the party

[00:25:06] that wants to shut down and control the border and that's why they're suing Texas for trying to

[00:25:13] control their border it really is amazing oh by the way Mexico they came out and said um

[00:25:22] yeah they're not going to accept any migrants that are deported uh by Texas unless they're Mexicans

[00:25:28] the foreign ministry issued a statement condemning uh uh uh Texas Senate Bill 4 and um

[00:25:36] they said that uh they are not going to allow anybody who's not a Mexican national uh to be

[00:25:43] deported back into their country so they're gonna help people who are not for Mexico through go

[00:25:47] through their country and go into America but not the other way around sorry and they say

[00:25:53] they're gonna protect their right to protect the rights of its nationals in the US all right well

[00:27:48] are biden juneer and then ccd are the the department of homeland security secretary alohandro

[00:27:54] me yorkis headed the fb i christopher ray as well as officials with ice and uh... customs and border

[00:28:00] patrol um and so what prompted the letter was the arrest of a suspect after an hours long standoff

[00:28:11] in a place that has a name that is weird i do not know how to pronounce this e u r e

[00:28:22] north carolina your your your north carolina

[00:28:29] i mean there's some real branding opportunities right there here in your north carolina

[00:28:34] e your your anyway um gates county sheriff's office reported receiving notice from us immigration

[00:28:40] and customs enforcement that the suspect may be on the u s governments terrorist watch list

[00:28:47] so not just an illegal immigrant but on the terrorist watch list that's the two for right there

[00:28:56] lieutenant governor mark robinson said quote i hope that the biden administration will act urgently

[00:29:01] to be more forthcoming regarding this potential terrorism suspect uh... the suspects name is

[00:29:06] uh... wet

[00:29:08] hagos

[00:29:09] he goes

[00:29:09] a wet he goes

[00:29:11] which i think is far worse than being a dry he goes

[00:29:18] anyway he is charged with three counts of assault on the government official

[00:29:22] three counts of resisting a public officer as well as a charge of carrying a concealed weapon

[00:29:28] which is weird because i thought

[00:29:30] people on the terrorist watch list

[00:29:32] and

[00:29:34] um

[00:29:35] illegal immigrants i didn't think that they were

[00:29:39] you know that they were allowed to get at well probably just dropped that gun charge

[00:29:42] i mean really who's prosecuting those nowadays

[00:29:45] um after communicating with gates county sheriff ray cambell and according to additional news reports

[00:29:51] the lieutenant governor's office learned

[00:29:53] that the sheriff's office received notice

[00:29:57] from ice

[00:29:58] that a wet he goes uh... may be on the terrorist watch list and so they are asking for more information

[00:30:04] so i'm looking now at that that was from the official press release from lieutenant governor

[00:30:09] bark robinson's office um... and

[00:30:12] in the letter he says our understanding is that this violent individual is originally from an

[00:30:17] area near Yemen a known hotbed of anti-american terrorist activity

[00:30:22] hagos entered the united states after residing in

[00:30:27] hayt

[00:30:29] after the lieutenant governor robinson communicated with gates county sheriff ray cambell and according to

[00:30:34] additional news reports it came out that uh... ice has placed a detainer on hagos

[00:30:39] as he is reportedly on the terrorist watch list

[00:30:42] he says clearly this is of grave concern and it raises a number of questions which

[00:30:47] need to be addressed urgently he then lists them like

[00:30:50] for example

[00:30:52] is he on the watch list

[00:30:55] uh... what are his suspected ties to terrorist groups whatever his activities

[00:30:59] is he acting alone does he have any no associates or friends or family that are also here

[00:31:04] um... do we know how he came into the country

[00:31:07] um...

[00:31:08] do we know uh... where else he may have traveled to or through in the state of north

[00:31:13] carolina

[00:31:14] um...

[00:31:15] when he applied for and was denied american citizenship

[00:31:19] why was he not detained at that time

[00:31:22] uh... when he applied for and was denied american citizenship

[00:31:25] how and who locally was alerted to his whereabouts

[00:31:30] and finally

[00:31:31] is the federal government aware of any other potential terrorist suspects in

[00:31:35] north carolina

[00:31:37] uh... whether they have ties to hagos or not

[00:31:40] he says the people of north carolina deserve answers to these questions

[00:31:44] in north carolina over the last few years we have had multiple attacks on

[00:31:47] our infrastructure including a cyber attack on a natural gas pipeline

[00:31:51] and just over a year ago we had multiple substations that were sabotaged

[00:31:56] hagos was living just an hour for multiple military bases in both north carolina

[00:32:02] and in virginia if this violent individual has terrorist ties it is imperative

[00:32:07] that we know immediately what these are

[00:32:09] uh... whether he has any associates here with them

[00:32:12] and if there's any imminent danger to the citizens of our state

[00:32:18] we'll see if joe biden responds to any of that i'm not banking on it meanwhile

[00:32:23] um...

[00:32:25] robinson is being targeted by

[00:32:29] some camera hungry politicians up in can etiquette

[00:32:34] having done such a poor job of managing their own business climate

[00:32:39] uh... they are seeking to use mark robinson as a way to uh...

[00:32:44] who businesses out of the tarheal state

[00:32:47] and go up to the nutmeg state

[00:32:51] uh...

[00:32:53] uh... uh...

[00:32:54] i mean sure okay like you really worried that mark robinson is the nominee because

[00:32:59] he said stuff and posted stuff on facebook and who is it key populist he said

[00:33:04] some things about abortion we don't like and

[00:33:06] you know social conservative we don't like he's too preachy sounds like a

[00:33:10] baptist preacher we don't like him in all of this

[00:33:14] okay so what you're gonna pick up your whole business and move it from the

[00:33:18] the number one ranked state for business multiple years in a row you're

[00:33:22] going to take your business from north carolina and send it to can etiquette

[00:33:26] because mark robinson won the republican nomination hasn't even won the

[00:33:30] election yet

[00:33:31] right has not he's not the governor yet

[00:33:35] meanwhile the legislatures controlled

[00:33:38] super majority will fight

[00:33:40] republicans so

[00:33:43] if it you like if robinson winning the nomination makes you that worried you're

[00:33:47] gonna move your business why wouldn't the general assembly make you even more

[00:33:51] worried

[00:33:52] because they've got super majorities

[00:33:55] so here's the story from w r a l

[00:33:59] some can etiquette lawmakers are hoping to lure businesses away from north

[00:34:03] carolina by highlighting controversial rhetoric

[00:34:06] of a high profile north carolina politician

[00:34:09] democrat senate leaders in the nutmeg state wrote to officials in can't

[00:34:12] it gets department of economic and community development

[00:34:16] urging them to quote

[00:34:17] explore opportunities

[00:34:19] to attract businesses from the state of north carolina to relocate to

[00:34:24] can etiquette

[00:34:25] they cited north carolina

[00:34:26] lieutenant governor mark robinson's

[00:34:28] gubernatorial nomination

[00:34:30] his history of infilamentary comments about lgbtq people and women

[00:34:35] and his desire to restrict abortion access

[00:34:37] as the impetus for the effort

[00:34:40] okay so the uh... senate president pro tempore

[00:34:44] uh... in can etiquette is a fellow by the name of loony

[00:34:49] but i'm not kidding like that's his name his name is

[00:34:53] martin loony

[00:34:56] marty loony

[00:34:58] he says we're constantly who he he he he he he he he he he says we're constantly

[00:35:02] looking for chances to diversify

[00:35:05] and strengthen our state's economy

[00:35:07] and we believe there's a unique opportunity to reach out to businesses in

[00:35:11] north carolina

[00:35:12] which has by the way been ranked the best in the nation for business

[00:35:16] for two straight years

[00:35:19] uh...

[00:35:20] okay

[00:35:21] me good luck with that

[00:35:24] robinson's campaign

[00:35:26] responded quote who cares what these northeastern liberals have to say

[00:35:31] since they took control of can etiquette democrats raised taxes and spending

[00:35:34] creating a parade of jobs and businesses packing up and leaving their state

[00:35:38] they should stop with silly pr stunts like this and take a page from north

[00:35:42] carolina conservatives book

[00:35:43] cut taxes on families and businesses

[00:35:46] reduce burdenson regulations

[00:35:48] and stop wasteful government spending

[00:35:51] yeah

[00:35:51] uh... that's the thing i you know i don't think and as much as the left in the media

[00:35:55] but i repeat myself they want to make this about

[00:35:58] social issues

[00:35:59] and they're going to and here you know here's the obligatory portion of the story

[00:36:03] about h b two

[00:36:05] right which by the way i still don't believe

[00:36:07] that it had these catastrophic uh... impacts that the left in the media but i

[00:36:11] remember i have uh... have uh...

[00:36:13] uh... have pretty that they predicted or that they believe to have occurred i

[00:36:17] don't believe it i don't we we saw economic growth during that time

[00:36:21] and yes we lost uh... what we lost the nba all-star game right uh...

[00:36:27] some nc double a stuff moved

[00:36:31] they all came back

[00:36:32] last week i read it

[00:36:34] me i don't know that's a sure because like

[00:36:36] now you're looking at all these different

[00:36:38] trans bills and and protect women sports bills and it's all the same in the

[00:36:43] we were just ahead of the curve

[00:36:45] so

[00:36:46] even so

[00:36:47] i don't believe that with all of the uh...

[00:36:50] uh... all of the

[00:36:51] the tax reforms

[00:36:53] and business regulatory reforms that the republicans have enacted over the last

[00:36:57] what now fourteen years

[00:36:59] thirteen years

[00:37:01] they're not upset

[00:37:02] by single issues like this

[00:37:04] they're not and you know what if they are if that's more important to your

[00:37:07] business

[00:37:08] right is is to placate some employees in their

[00:37:12] social justice warrior

[00:37:13] virtue signaling uh... facebook comments

[00:37:16] then please don't come

[00:37:18] seriously please you should relocate you should go someplace you should go

[00:37:21] to a different state that's gonna tax you out the wazoo

[00:37:25] and uh... and then you'll all be on the same page on the social justice stuff

[00:37:30] i'm fine with that

[00:37:31] i'm fine with that we're doing okay

[00:37:34] in fact it might actually lower some of the housing prices

[00:37:37] couple of messages

[00:37:40] first up

[00:37:41] Chris says pete i just did a google maps search for

[00:37:45] your e or your

[00:37:47] you know okay

[00:37:48] a well a your

[00:37:50] e u r e

[00:37:52] north carolina

[00:37:53] and that is by far the smallest municipality i have ever seen

[00:37:57] uh... chris it is not even a municipality

[00:38:00] it is an unincorporated area

[00:38:04] apparently lost its incorporation status

[00:38:07] uh... many years ago

[00:38:08] uh... so it is uh...

[00:38:10] it's got fifteen hundred people or so

[00:38:12] uh... and there's like ten thousand or so uh... in gates county

[00:38:17] and so it's a it's not even a

[00:38:19] it's not even a municipality as i understand it it's an unincorporated

[00:38:22] community

[00:38:23] in midwestern gates county

[00:38:26] it has an elevation of twenty three feet

[00:38:29] according to the interweb

[00:38:31] uh...

[00:38:32] deer pete is a detainer

[00:38:35] uh... anything like a vote tanner

[00:38:40] sincerely huti nation

[00:38:43] um...

[00:38:44] it's a very good question yes

[00:38:45] uh... they are similar in that uh...

[00:38:49] in that at neither one is utilized at all really

[00:38:53] the same

[00:38:54] uh... thank you

[00:38:55] also big fan of the blowfish

[00:38:58] to to to pret says i'm wondering what other laws are not enforced concerning

[00:39:02] illegal aliens for instance i have a friend who is an illegal alien

[00:39:05] i'm thinking that he should drive my car

[00:39:08] when we're driving just you know to avoid the tickets to you in the accident

[00:39:12] or any

[00:39:13] other potential legal entanglements

[00:39:15] right right you know hey

[00:39:17] it makes sense

[00:39:19] davis as i am sick and tired of politicians democrat or republican

[00:39:23] saying we need more laws

[00:39:24] whether it's the border

[00:39:26] guns or anything else just enforce the laws that are already on the books

[00:39:31] and on the neural link story

[00:39:33] uh... this is from stan who says the best way to use this technology is to

[00:39:37] implant it into the brain of everyone involved in running bureaucratic or

[00:39:41] regulatory agencies

[00:39:42] programming then would be based on

[00:39:44] sort of a learn as you go model as opposed to a wokster programming

[00:39:48] uh... that just couldn't help but lead us to a better place

[00:39:52] well he controls the programming gets to you know control the world

[00:39:56] speaking of the

[00:39:57] of the woke folks

[00:39:59] there's a new study out of Finland

[00:40:01] about creating a psychological assessment to identify people with woke beliefs

[00:40:07] the study

[00:40:08] found that those who hold such beliefs

[00:40:11] are actually more likely to report being anxious or depressed

[00:40:16] so they uh...

[00:40:17] yes this led to the creation of an assessment test called the critical social

[00:40:20] justice attitude scale

[00:40:23] okay

[00:40:24] and has this has seven questions ready

[00:40:26] one

[00:40:27] if white people have on average a higher level of income than black people it is

[00:40:31] because of racism

[00:40:33] and if you say yes

[00:40:34] right if you say yes to these things that makes you your your on the the scale

[00:40:38] uh... number two university reading lists should include fewer white or European

[00:40:43] authors

[00:40:44] micro aggressions should be challenged often and actively

[00:40:48] trans women who compete with women in sports are not helping women's rights

[00:40:53] that's a reverse score by the way

[00:40:55] uh... we don't need to talk more about people the color of people's skin

[00:40:59] uh... a white person cannot understand how a black person feels equally well as

[00:41:03] another black person can

[00:41:05] and finally another reverse score

[00:41:07] of a member of a privileged group

[00:41:09] can adopt features or cultural elements of a less privileged group

[00:41:15] john sexton at hot air dot com

[00:41:17] it says having created this assessment

[00:41:20] uh... a scari latin and who is the researcher

[00:41:23] was then able to gather some data and she found that walkness was not terribly

[00:41:26] popular in finland though it's more popular with women than men

[00:41:30] three out of five women view woke ideas positively

[00:41:33] only one at a seven men do

[00:41:36] but the most significant finding was the connection

[00:41:38] to anxiety and depression

[00:41:41] she found a correlation between higher agreement with critical social justice

[00:41:46] attitudes and increased reports of anxiety and depression

[00:41:49] these associations were more strongly correlated with participants

[00:41:53] political orientation

[00:41:54] than with critical social justice attitudes per se

[00:41:57] specifically

[00:41:59] on the political left

[00:42:00] it's more of a predictor

[00:42:02] uh... of lower mental well-being then high critical social justice scores alone

[00:42:08] right which suggests that the link

[00:42:10] uh... between social justice attitudes and mental health is complex and maybe

[00:42:14] mediated by a broader political and ideological ideological belief

[00:42:18] alright that'll do it for this episode thank you so much for listening i could

[00:42:22] not do the show without your support

[00:42:24] and the support of the businesses that advertise on the podcast

[00:42:27] so if you'd like please support them to and tell him you heard it here

[00:42:30] you can also become a patron at my patreon page or go to the peak calendar

[00:42:34] show dot com again

[00:42:36] thank you so much for listening and uh... don't break anything while i'm gone
