Media plays D&D with JD Vance (09-24-2024--Hour1)

This episode is presented by Simply NC Goods – Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance appeared in Charlotte yesterday where three of the five questions he fielded from the media were about Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson's scandal. It's a perfect example of the "Defend and Disavow" game journalists play with Republicans whenever the scandal is about a Republican.

[00:00:29] [SPEAKER_06]: Ryan Roots Sun

[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_06]: Ryan Roots Sun

[00:00:33] [SPEAKER_06]: This was the guy,

[00:00:35] [SPEAKER_06]: Believer's name was Oran or Oran

[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_06]: and remember he had the quote in one of the articles

[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_06]: that he said any reasonable person

[00:00:46] [SPEAKER_06]: would hate Donald Trump, would not like Donald Trump remember that guy.

[00:00:51] [SPEAKER_06]: The son of the second would be assassin,

[00:00:56] [SPEAKER_06]: the targeted Donald Trump.

[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_06]: He has just been arrested for possession of child porn,

[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_06]: hundreds of files on his computer.

[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_06]: And I also saw as this news was coming down

[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_06]: a couple different related items.

[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_06]: That's all the information by the way that I have of that

[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_06]: just that they've arrested him.

[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_06]: That's her name, Morello, I believe is her name.

[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_06]: She used to work at Fox News,

[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_06]: I'm sorry, I'm scrolling back up through my through the old Twitter feed here to find it.

[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_06]: But well, that's okay.

[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_06]: I remember what she said

[00:01:40] [SPEAKER_06]: that the

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_06]: that when Cheryl Atkinson or Atkinson,

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_06]: rather, was working at CBS News or CBS News

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_06]: you remember how she said that she was being hacked into her accounts

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_06]: for being hacked into and she watched it a curl in real time.

[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_06]: Like she could see something, like a mouse or something

[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_06]: moving around on her computer and all of that.

[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_06]: That according to this, her last name is Morello,

[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_06]: I forget Sarah, maybe I forget her first name.

[00:02:20] [SPEAKER_06]: But she said that there was an effort to plant child pornography

[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_06]: on her husband's computer.

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_06]: Also, the brother of the Las Vegas shooter

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_06]: also got popped with a bunch of child porn on his computer.

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_06]: Now, is all of that coincidental?

[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_06]: Are these items related?

[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_06]: I have no idea.

[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_06]: Just for the record, I'd like to

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_06]: state right here right now as I'm covering this story

[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_06]: that I do not have any child porn on my computer.

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, so if something comes along and they're like,

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_06]: oh, we found all these files like somebody put that stuff there.

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_06]: I am of a mind right now to go home today

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_06]: and just pull the plug on all of the internet.

[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_06]: It's just because if this is part of a larger strategy,

[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_06]: these are tactics that are employed by obviously

[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_06]: government actors of some kind

[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_06]: of people who are not working on the way to the way that they're putting stuff

[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_06]: onto people's computers and relatives of people.

[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_06]: Right, so now like I got to make sure that no family member

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_06]: engages in any kind of mass mayhem

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_06]: because then there's a question also about

[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_06]: I mentioned this yesterday about the

[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_06]: the manifesto or the note that was left in the box

[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_06]: that friends house by the would be assassin, Ryan Routh

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_06]: and he claimed to be offering a $150,000 bounty

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_06]: to anybody that would quote finish the job if he failed

[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_06]: which he expected he would.

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_06]: Which is good, like he's got self-awareness there.

[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_06]: He knew he was probably not going to succeed.

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_06]: But did he have that kind of money?

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_06]: I said this from the very beginning, who funded his travels?

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_06]: Where was he making enough money?

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_06]: And maybe there's a perfectly reasonable explanation

[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_06]: and it checks out.

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_06]: Maybe he was doing enough work as a construction worker,

[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_06]: handyman kind of a guy in Hawaii

[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_06]: and he was able to keep expenses down,

[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_06]: he was made.

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_06]: So therefore was able to fund all of these trips

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_06]: to Ukraine and such.

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_06]: Maybe he didn't have the kind of money to pay somebody.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_06]: I mean, this was a guy who was going around claiming

[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_06]: he was recruiting for a Ukrainian army, right?

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_06]: And was never able to recruit anybody actually.

[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_06]: And when anybody ever interviewed him,

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_06]: they all thought, yeah, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_06]: He's just kind of a loon.

[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_06]: And that's still where I come down on it.

[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_06]: And maybe this son did actually have all

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_06]: this material on his computer.

[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_06]: But the problem is that our our DOJ agencies,

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_06]: our intel agencies have so corrupted their reputation.

[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_06]: I can't believe them.

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_06]: I've seen enough videos of feds coming to people's door,

[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_06]: wanting to ask them some questions about social media posts

[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_06]: and such.

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_06]: I've seen too much.

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_06]: Don't ever talk to them.

[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_06]: Don't ever talk to them without a lawyer.

[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_06]: And I'm sorry, like I would net, like that's not something

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_06]: I would have advised people years ago.

[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_06]: It is now.

[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_06]: And maybe that's the way they want it.

[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_06]: Maybe they're happy with this kind of relationship

[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_06]: with the citizenry.

[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_06]: I don't know.

[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_06]: I have no particular insight.

[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_06]: I like you.

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_06]: I'm just kind of reading the stories as they come down

[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_06]: and like, but I've seen this story now enough times.

[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_06]: I've seen people make this reference.

[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_06]: Like the guy could very well have had this stuff.

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_06]: And also it's kind of coincidental that there's always

[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_06]: some family member around one of these guys.

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_06]: Or one of these, these people that now may be a threat.

[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_06]: So again, I don't know.

[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_06]: I'm just giving you the information.

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_06]: So JD Vance came to town, came to Charlotte yesterday

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_06]: and spoke for about the whole presentation

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_06]: or I guess the speech was about 40 minutes.

[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_06]: And he did something.

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_06]: I'm not sure if he's doing this everywhere.

[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_06]: And it's an interesting kind of hybrid format

[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_06]: where he does a speech with a rally kind of vibe.

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_06]: And then he opens the floor up to questions from the media.

[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_06]: And I don't know if I've ever seen this kind of hybrid format

[00:07:19] before.

[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_06]: And from a journalist standpoint, from a reporter standpoint,

[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_06]: that's intimidating because you've got an entire arena full of people

[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_06]: that are not going to like you.

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_06]: And just immediately, not going to like you.

[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_06]: And then when you ask your question, then they really aren't going to like you.

[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_06]: But that is the job.

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_06]: And so from a political campaign perspective,

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_06]: it's kind of a brilliant move because he has the whole room behind him

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_06]: and now the power dynamic is changed.

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_06]: So maybe you get better questions, maybe you get easier questions,

[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_06]: maybe they're not as hard hitting as they otherwise would be.

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_06]: You're now not at the podium alone, and there's this pack of reporters in front of you,

[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_06]: just peppering you with questions, right?

[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_06]: So it shifts that power dynamic in what otherwise be just a press conference or an interview.

[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_06]: Setting.

[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_06]: So this is an interesting format I had not seen this before.

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_06]: You may be doing it all over the place, but it's an interesting format.

[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_06]: He took, um, I believe there were, let me see here,

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_06]: one, two, three, four, five questions, right?

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_06]: So he took five questions.

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_06]: We'll take a listen to them and his answers.

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_06]: You know, stories are powerful.

[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_06]: They help us make sense of things to understand experiences.

[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_06]: Stories connect us to the people of our past while transcending generations.

[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_06]: They help us process the meaning of life.

[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_06]: And our stories are told through images and videos.

[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_06]: Preserve your stories with creative video, started in 1997 in MINDHILL,

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_06]: converting images, photos and videos into high quality,

[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_06]: with you to create a perfect project satisfaction guaranteed.

[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_06]: They'll be ready in a week or two.

[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_06]: Memorial videos for your loved ones.

[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_06]: Videos for rehearsal dinners, weddings,

[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_06]: graduations, Christmas, family vacations, birthdays or just your family stories all told through images.

[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_06]: That's what your photos and videos are.

[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_06]: They are your life, told through the eyes of everyone around you and all who came before you.

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_06]: And they will tell others to come who you are visit creativevideo.com.

[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_06]: So JD Vance was in Charlotte yesterday.

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_06]: I have some, oh, I have the audio from the Q&A part of his,

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_06]: of his speech or yeah, because he does a speech first and then he follows up with this Q&A with reporters.

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_06]: And I, I mentioned that I find this venue to be,

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_06]: or the format rather to be this hybrid format to be interesting in that it changes the power dynamic.

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_06]: Now also I fail to mention,

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_06]: Vance is putting himself also at greater risk because if you are in that room and you say something that turns the crowd against you,

[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_06]: like that could be very detrimental, right?

[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_06]: Versus like at a press conference and you know,

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_06]: maybe nobody sees it until they see like a clip of it later or whatever.

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_06]: Barry says on the Twitter machine and it's a peat tweet.

[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_06]: He says, I love the Vance format for another reason.

[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_06]: It gives him a chance to push back against the media false narrative in real time.

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_06]: And I will say, Vance is very good at doing this.

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_06]: He is very good at turning the questions from reporters and challenging the assumptions built into or the premises built into the questions.

[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_06]: So here was the first one. It came from Nick Oksner actually down the hall at WBTV.

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, Senator Vance, Senator Vance, Nick Oksner at WBTV.

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_03]: I want to ask you by Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson,

[00:11:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Lieutenant Governor was with you on stage with you and...

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_06]: Crowds not like in that question.

[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_04]: Lieutenant Governor was on stage.

[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_06]: The here what Vance turned around and he said,

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_06]: I knew I was going to get this.

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_06]: He's not an idiot.

[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_06]: He knew the questions that the reporters were going to ask.

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_06]: So what does that tell you?

[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_06]: Let them ask their question.

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_06]: I know what you're going to ask.

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_06]: And I know the crowd is not going to like it.

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_06]: And I'm going to have an answer for it.

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_06]: So go ahead and ask your question. This is D&D defendant Is a Val.

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_06]: That's the game that's being played.

[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_06]: It's being played against every single Republican in North Carolina.

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_06]: It's being played against Donald Trump and J.D. Vance.

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_06]: It's probably being played against Republicans in other states, right?

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_06]: You, one shared a stage with Mark Robinson.

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_06]: You had a picture taken with him,

[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_06]: which basically means that you wrote those muddy comments.

[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_06]: Those filthy disgusting comments.

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_06]: Fifteen years ago before Mark Robinson actually was known by anybody.

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_06]: But you're culpable.

[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_06]: You have to defend or just a Val.

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_06]: And even if you disoval,

[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_06]: you gain no redemption.

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_06]: There's no winning here for you.

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_06]: There isn't anybody in that audience or anywhere that's going to be like,

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, well, J.D. Vance said, oh, I disovaled Mark Robinson.

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_06]: And then someone's going to say, well, you know, I was on the fence until he

[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_06]: disovaled Robinson.

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_06]: That's what did it.

[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_06]: Nobody's changing their mind over the answer to the question.

[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_06]: It's just a game that reporters play defender disoval.

[00:13:11] [SPEAKER_06]: Now, we'll say, OXNERS question,

[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_06]: I think is a fair question.

[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_06]: Listen to listen to the actual question he is asking.

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_03]: In the form of president and your August 21st rally in Ashbro,

[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_03]: but he's not here for you today.

[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_03]: He wasn't with the former president Wilmington in the wake of the CNN investigation.

[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_03]: What is there something that's qualifying about the comments uncovered by CNN

[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_03]: that wasn't this qualifying about any of the previous comments he made?

[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_06]: So you stood with Robinson before when

[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_06]: Robinson had all of these other comments.

[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_06]: Is there something about these comments that are particularly more

[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_06]: regregious?

[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_06]: That you're not standing with him now.

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_06]: So what's Vance's answer?

[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Is that the question?

[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Here's my view on the lieutenant governor.

[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_05]: First of all, what he said or didn't say is also between him and the people

[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_05]: of North Carolina.

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_05]: The people in North Carolina are going to make that decision.

[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Now look, I've seen some of the statements.

[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_05]: I haven't seen them all.

[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Some of them are pretty gross to put it mildly.

[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Mark Robinson says that those statements are false that he didn't actually speak to

[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_05]: speak to them.

[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_05]: So I think it's up to Mark Robinson to make his case to the people of North Carolina

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_05]: that those weren't his statements and I'm going to let him make that case.

[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_05]: But look, I got to say this entire episode illustrates something

[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_05]: that is fundamentally broken about the American media.

[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_05]: You've got in this country right now a record number of Americans who are

[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_05]: dying of fitness over doses.

[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Thanks to Kamala Harris's policies.

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_05]: You've got a record number of young Americans who can't afford to buy a home.

[00:14:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Thanks to Kamala Harris's policies and you've got a record number of

[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_05]: Americans who are struggling to buy groceries.

[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Thanks to Kamala Harris's policies, the media ought to focus on Kamala Harris

[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_05]: and her failure more interested in pursuing policies that

[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_05]: correct the problems of Kamala Harris.

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_05]: A sex scandal in North Carolina is between the Lieutenant Governor and the people in

[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_05]: North Carolina.

[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_05]: They're going to make their decision and we support him.

[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_06]: All right, so there is Vance's answer.

[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_06]: I also bristle at this pretence of ignorance about how politics and

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_06]: photo ops and endorsements work.

[00:15:48] [SPEAKER_06]: Everybody, people who cover this stuff.

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_06]: They know how this stuff works.

[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_06]: Do I believe that JD Vance knows Mark Robinson?

[00:15:54] No.

[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_06]: They appear on a stage together at some point because Mark Robinson is

[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_06]: some rising star in the party.

[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_06]: They come to North Carolina like, oh, you got to go on the stage with this guy.

[00:16:02] [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, okay, great.

[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, woo, we love this guy.

[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_06]: And now it's like, oh, you said you love this guy.

[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_06]: What, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, really?

[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_06]: It's a debate.

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_06]: Good story.

[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_06]: Dave writes into Pete at VP.

[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_06]: Calendar Show.com.

[00:17:35] [SPEAKER_06]: Pete, as you said, J.D.

[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_06]: Vance knew that he was going to get the Robinson question.

[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_06]: Nick Oksner should have known the audience was provance.

[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_06]: And I'm sure he did.

[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_06]: And if he asked the question, he was going to get blowback.

[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_06]: If anything, Oksner turned the crowd against him, his station and media in general

[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_06]: not Trump slash Vance.

[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_06]: So the first question about Robinson.

[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_06]: Second question.

[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_06]: What is that going to be about?

[00:18:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Senator Bansdouley with WCNC Charlotte.

[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm curious about the debate how you're feeling ahead of it.

[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_01]: How you're repairing and should this be the last debate of the election cycle?

[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, look, I think one thing that's true about the debates and whether it should be the last

[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_05]: debate of the election cycle is Donald Trump accepted the debate on Fox News and

[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Comwell Harris ran from it.

[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_05]: And if you think about the difference between Comwell Harris and Donald Trump,

[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Donald Trump did a hustle debate with CNN, a network that's not friendly to him.

[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_05]: He did a hustle debate with ABC where you remember the moderators fact checked him multiple

[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_05]: times and didn't fact check Comwell Harris when she said outrageous things.

[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Remember, the Comwell Harris just a few weeks ago, you had American troops who were nearly killed in an attack by

[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_05]: Iranian militias and Comwell Harris had the audacity to say there are no troops in active combat.

[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Where was the fact check for ABC for that?

[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_06]: There are questions.

[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_06]: All right, next question.

[00:19:09] [SPEAKER_06]: This also came from local media.

[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much for answering questions.

[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_02]: I see you see Joe's with WCCP.

[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_02]: I want to ask you, you're talking about hostility.

[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_02]: So looking at how things are going in spring, field of high right now where you may

[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_02]: claim that high patient migrants were eating pets that have since been a debunked.

[00:19:27] [SPEAKER_02]: There are threats to the community.

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Things are hostile.

[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Knowing that America's so divided right now, would you change anything about

[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_02]: the way you spread those now debunked false claims?

[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, what?

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Look, what I have a responsibility to do in spring, field of high or any constituency in the state of Ohio

[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_05]: and if God willing the American people honor me by making me their next vice president.

[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_05]: This will be my responsibility for the whole country.

[00:20:00] [SPEAKER_05]: My responsibility is to listen to the people that I serve and not a biased media.

[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_05]: And that's what I'll keep on doing in spring, field of high or anywhere else.

[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_06]: By the way, just it just came to me the format that he is using here.

[00:20:15] [SPEAKER_06]: You know who else does this?

[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_06]: Ron DeSantis.

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_06]: I've seen this before, I've seen DeSantis doing this with his press conferences.

[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_06]: You'll have a whole bunch of supporters up there and then he takes questions and they start

[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_06]: booing at the reporters for their questions.

[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_06]: Which look, I mean, it's like being a comic, right?

[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_06]: You don't need a critic to write a review of you the next day in the paper to let you know

[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_06]: whether you did a good job on stage the night before.

[00:20:41] [SPEAKER_06]: You know immediately, right after you tell that joke,

[00:20:45] [SPEAKER_06]: if you're funny, you know, if you're not, you know.

[00:20:50] [SPEAKER_06]: The crowd cheered for a bit after a vans started that question.

[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_06]: They started chanting, you know, JD, JD a bunch of times and then he finished.

[00:20:59] What?

[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_05]: One thing I've learned and I really do think it's a difference between me and President Trump

[00:21:06] [SPEAKER_05]: and the Kamala Harris campaign is that we listen to people and we try to understand where they're

[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_05]: coming from.

[00:21:13] [SPEAKER_05]: And to think about this, I've learned this in just two years in the United States Senate.

[00:21:17] [SPEAKER_05]: When there was a train disaster in East Palisnes, Ohio, a lot of residents came to me

[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_05]: and told me a lot of things.

[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_05]: And some of those things ended up being not totally true.

[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_05]: They were based on rumors, but most of those things ended up being based on reality.

[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_05]: And they were treated like enemies by the American media for daring to complain about what's going on in their country.

[00:21:40] [SPEAKER_05]: And I'll tell you what, I promise that is your next vice president to the American people

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_05]: to the people of this great state of North Carolina.

[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_05]: I will always listen to you, even when the media attacks me, I will listen to you about what's going on in your communities

[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_05]: because that's what a leader ought to do.

[00:22:06] [SPEAKER_05]: And the final point that I'll make there is that everything that's going on in Springfield, Ohio, first of all,

[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_05]: it comes from Kamala Harris' wide open borders, a small town in Ohio 20,000 migrants into that community.

[00:22:20] [SPEAKER_05]: It is stressed every local service.

[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_05]: I wish the American media was half as interested in the stress on the local schools,

[00:22:28] [SPEAKER_05]: the stress on the hospitals, and unaffordable housing as they are in debunking a story that comes from the residents of Springfield.

[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_06]: So that's a very, that's a very adept way to turn that question around.

[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_06]: By the way, they did find Fluffy, the cat that was apparently like the source of the initial rumors

[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_06]: that had disappeared, the woman reported the cat missing, thought that the Haitians that eaten the cat,

[00:22:56] [SPEAKER_06]: whatever turned out it was just like hanging out in her basement.

[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_06]: They did find the cat, so happy ending there, not eaten.

[00:23:04] [SPEAKER_06]: But this is kind of comical to me that this is what local news does.

[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_06]: You hear a rumor, you hear a story and you go track it down.

[00:23:15] [SPEAKER_06]: Right?

[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_06]: That's what you're supposed to be doing as a reporter, and you should know more than anybody else,

[00:23:22] [SPEAKER_06]: how that story generation occurs.

[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_06]: And that's what was going on with the Haitians eating cats in dog story.

[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_06]: And when I covered it, I said, I have no evidence that this is occurring, but this is what the rumors are.

[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_06]: And so that's why you go and try to track it down.

[00:23:40] [SPEAKER_06]: All right, so we're three out of five questions deep.

[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_06]: We've had one question on Robinson, one question about debate prep, and one question about Haitian-seeding cats.

[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_06]: We have two more to go.

[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_06]: What will they ask next?

[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_06]: So when I was a kid, my grandpa died with Alzheimer's, and before he died, my mom and my dad,

[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_06]: and all of us really helped take care of him as he got progressively worse.

[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_06]: 40 years ago, there were no treatments and not much support for caregivers and family.

[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_06]: Things are different today because of the work of so many people, including the Alzheimer's Association of Western North Carolina.

[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_06]: It's a great organization with awesome people. They've got huge hearts. I've been a supporter for like 25 years.

[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_06]: This cause means a lot to me. I participate in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's, and I am leading a Charlotte team this year.

[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_06]: It's called Peats Pack. You can sign up and join the team and walk with me.

[00:24:34] [SPEAKER_06]: It's on October 19th at Truist Field in Uptown, sign up at alz.org-slashwalk, and then just look for my team, Peats Pack.

[00:24:44] [SPEAKER_06]: And there's also a link in the podcast description here. Also I'm going to be MCing the Gastonia Walk on October 5th,

[00:24:50] [SPEAKER_06]: so make a team and join us or make a donation to help me hit my goal.

[00:24:53] [SPEAKER_06]: I would really appreciate it. There are a bunch of other walks around the Carolinas, and you can go to alz.org for all of the dates and locations.

[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_06]: We are closer than ever to stopping Alzheimer's, and if you can help us get there, we would really appreciate it.

[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_06]: Will you come walk with me for a different future, for families, for more time, for treatments? This is why I walk.

[00:25:16] [SPEAKER_06]: All right, so we did three of the five questions that were asked of JD Vance last night.

[00:25:24] [SPEAKER_06]: First was about Robinson. Second was about the debate prep. The third was about the Haitian Zetna Cats, and the fourth question is about...

[00:25:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Senator Vance, you have to take your question. This is Kelly Kendall from WXI. You just called North Carolina a second home to you,

[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_00]: but you also said that you want to leave the situation between voters and Mark Robinson. I just want to give you a warm heart chance to do it.

[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to leave the two of our brothers and his campaign?

[00:25:56] [SPEAKER_05]: I can't imagine. Look, I'll continue to support the people of North Carolina. That's what my job is as their next vice president.

[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, so then he praised the beauty of the mountains and the beaches of the state, and then he pesackied back there.

[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_05]: The people of North Carolina, what I'm here, and this is the second event I've done today. You know what I hear about?

[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_05]: I hear about concerns regarding inflation. I hear about affordability. I hear from young people who want to be able to afford a home and worried they're never going to be able to.

[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_05]: I hear heart breaking stories from people who say, you know, my parents, they got married and they worked and they were able to afford a home to raise a family in,

[00:26:35] [SPEAKER_05]: and I'm worried that's never going to be true for me and my children. Those are the people whose problems I am focused on, not a sex scandal,

[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_05]: and not something I think is fundamentally the voters of North Carolina are focused on the right issues

[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_05]: and that's what our campaign is going to focus on too.

[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_06]: All right, so the last question. What do you think it's about?

[00:26:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, Senator Kit Mahr. I just want to clear up. Does Trump campaign still in the works Mark Robinson?

[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_06]: I think he crowds getting angry.

[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_06]: All right, I think the crowd is getting angry.

[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_06]: So that was Kit Mahr. I believe is what she said her name was, which makes sense because Kit Mahr is a campaign producer with CNN's political unit.

[00:27:32] [SPEAKER_06]: They have a political unit. I mean, I'm sure they're like as in like political coverage, political reporters, that kind of thing,

[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_06]: but they call it the political unit, which I think that's actually an accurate name to call that unit.

[00:27:48] [SPEAKER_06]: But three out of the five questions that went to JD events were about Mark Robinson.

[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_06]: This is defend and disavow, right? Because when the scandal is about a Republican, the story is the scandal.

[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_06]: Now, if the scandal is about a Democrat, then the story is about the Republican reaction to that scandal.

[00:28:11] [SPEAKER_06]: It's not about the scandal at all.

[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_06]: All right, that'll do it for this episode. Thank you so much for listening. I could not do the show without your support and the support of the businesses that advertise on the podcast.

[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_06]: So if you'd like, please support them too. Until I'm your heard it here, you can also become a patron and my Patreon page or go to DPCalonarshow.com again.

[00:28:31] [SPEAKER_06]: Thank you so much for listening and don't break anything while I'm gone.
