Gov. Roy Cooper was overly exuberant and excited - which struck a discordant tone at times, and at other times came across as petty. But the Democratic incumbent's supporters thought he was fiery and angry. His Republican challenger, Lt. Gov. Dan Forest, was measured in presenting a more positive and hopeful alternative to Cooper - who has led one of the most restrictive responses to COVID-19 in America.
