Gov. Cooper jumps in front of the parade for re-opening schools

While celebrated as a compromise between the Democrat Governor and the Republican General Assembly, the deal to re-open schools in North Carolina is virtually identical to the bill the Governor vetoed. The health and safety guidelines are the same, although that was the reason Gov. Cooper cited for opposing the original Senate Bill 37. Local school districts don't get any new control under the new compromise deal than they did under SB37, either -- although that was also cited as a reason for why Cooper vetoed it. The only major difference is that the new bill protects Gov. Cooper's power to shut down schools.
