Cooper made stuff cost more but now promises to make them cost less | Hour 2

This episode is presented by Create A Video – Former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has been speaking to small groups in Democrat strongholds as he runs for US Senate, and he's focused on a single message with little pushback from friendly media: "Make stuff cost less." But while Governor, Cooper's actions and support of national policies helped raise the costs of the things he now promises to bring down. But only if he's elected.

All righty, so former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Cut him loose, Cooper, as I call him. He's running around the state appearing before very small gatherings in Democrat strongholds. Of course, these are being called rallies, but they're very small. A rally, I think a rally has to be like you got to have. I feel like at least a thousand, you know, there's got somewhere in the neighborhood of a thousand. I'm not going to, I'm not going to nitpick if you get 900 or something, but you like, you've got to have, okay, maybe 500, more than 500. You got to have that, like that many people for it to be called around. Okay. Maybe 200, 250 somewhere in that neighborhood, you. Know, otherwise it's just a campaign stop. Okay. Okay. You know, don't don't call these things rallies. But that's what the, you know, friendly media in North Carolina is calling all of his stops. They're saying, oh, he attended a rally. And then you look at the images and it's like there are 40 people there. And, you know, they all got Roy Cooper signs and T-shirts and they're all friendly, obviously. They're not doing mass turnout events for my good friend Ray. And by the way, I call him that because that's what Hillary Clinton called him, her good friend Ray. Cooper, who was running for governor at the time. But I digress. So he's running around the state, going to these gatherings, and he's promising that he's going to make stuff cost less. That's the name of his tour. That's the slogan that he keeps repeating. It's like the only thing he says. And that he is going to make stuff cost less. You just need to put him in a body with 99 other people from all around the country of differing political persuasions. And he will then be able to make all of the things cost less or all of the stuff cost less. That's his promise. Now, he's not going to tell you how he's going to do it specifically. He hasn't provided like policy workups or anything like that. No white papers, nothing, dare I say, based on the science and data, which is what he always invoked in that chant like fashion during covid whenever he wanted to do anything. He just said the science and data say I should do this, and so I'm doing it. Shut up, right? No science or data being cited on any of these things. He's just going to make stuff cost less, and you go to his website, and it's just a bunch of bullet points of slogans and bumper sticker bromides and such. That's all. But if we elect him, I guess then he'll tell us the secret plan. Now, I don't know about you, but I'm not that trusty. When it comes to people running for office. And so I was curious, you know, what exactly he would be looking to do when he says make stuff cost less. And that led me to the website. And that wasn't really very helpful. So I am left then to look at his record because he was governor. And before that, he was attorney general for 16 years. And before that, he was a state lawmaker. And I mean, the guy's been in office for 40 years. OK, so what has he done to make stuff cost less? Right. Especially as governor. I mean, you look at he was the governor for two terms, eight years, and he had. To, you know, he had to do. Deals with the North Carolina General Assembly, with the legislature. And he being a Democrat and the legislature being majority Republican, one would expect that there would be a whole raft of policies that he signed into law and he negotiated with the Republicans across the aisle. In order to make stuff cost less. There aren't any. That's the problem, is that he actually has more vetoes than every other governor in North Carolina history combined. He actually fought the legislature on literally everything they wanted to do, except one thing. One thing. Expand Medicaid. Which actually didn't make it cost less. Did not bring down health care costs. Just like Obamacare, right? Expanded Medicaid, able-bodied adults now on the program, no. Work requirements or anything like that. And so the Republicans, they were the ones who eventually caved and they set up a mechanism whereby they could get money from the hospitals and then rebate it back to them and all of this. This mechanism that was developed in other states that had expanded Medicaid and like, holy cow, we're going bankrupt doing this. So they created this mechanism to get money to pay for the expansion and then pay it back around in a circular fashion. So that's what the Republicans did. And when they did that, Roy Cooper jumped on board. That's not exactly working with the Republicans to get Medicaid expanded. But that's the example that he cites, which, again, I point out, did not actually reduce the cost of anything. Health care is now more expensive than it's ever been. And that's thanks to Democrat policies, Democrat policies like Obamacare that Roy Cooper supported. Democrat policies at the national. Level, Roy Cooper has supported all of them, which is weird. When I saw this clip earlier today, Roy Cooper at a at an event, he's standing in a corner of like a looks like a like a prison cell or something. And he's got his banner, make stuff cost less, vote for Roy. And here's the question from a reporter. What would you tell a conservative that's worried that you're just going to vote with the Democrats on everything? And that's a good question. What would you tell a conservative, independent, or Republican who's worried about a vote that might lead to a Democratic majority they might not agree with? So I've stood up to my own party on numerous occasions throughout my career if I disagreed with them. Okay. The follow-up there is when. When have you stood up to the Democrat party, your leaders— On the numerous occasions that he cites here, numerous occasions throughout his career, if he ever disagreed with the Democrat leadership, with his own party, when has he stood up and done that? Because since I've been in media in North Carolina, Roy Cooper has been in office. And I cannot recall a single instance. Cannot recall a single instance. when he has stood up to his own party, when something was actually on the line, right? When you could do some political damage to yourself by crossing your party leaders, when have you done that? And the spoiler alert here is that he never has. He never has. And that's why he says, oh, I've stood up on numerous occasions. I can't name them, but on numerous occasions, so numerous, I can't name them all. And I'm not going to if I disagreed with them. And then he pivots. I'm going to put the people first. The people will come before politics. The people will come before party. The people will come before power. A lot of these people. Members of Congress are making decisions based upon keeping their power. They're afraid to stand up to this president because they want to keep their power. Pause it right there. OK, so he's all about the people, not about the power. I'm old enough to remember when he whipped up a boycott of North Carolina by businesses that were looking to relocate here. In fact, got one of them to cancel their plans. over transgender access into bathrooms, men being allowed to enter women's spaces. He supported that because that was what the Democrat Party was all about back in, what, 2016, right? Pat McCrory was governor. He had HB2, the bathroom bill. McCrory signed it. Roy Cooper then used that, led up a boycott, according to the Wall Street Journal report at the time that he was you know, solidifying and reaching out to businesses to boycott the state to harm the people of North Carolina over the policy disagreement about whether dudes should be allowed to be in the locker rooms with the women. Right. And then when there were Democrats like Joel Ford from Mecklenburg who said, hey, we can work with the Republicans to do a fix, quote unquote, for HB2. And Democrats in the General Assembly were threatened by Roy Cooper, then Attorney General, candidate for governor. They were threatened, do not work with Republicans because I want this issue for the election. And he was able to use. That and capitalize on it to squeak past McQuarrie in that first election. So don't tell me that you're not going to put power ahead of the people. because that is precisely what you did to win your first term as governor. Last time I checked when the Democrats were in power, they printed money like it was Christmas, which is what led to the inflation to begin with. So is he advocating for reducing spending and cutting taxes? Not at all. No. I mean. His legislative record shows that. He is of the see a penny, spend a penny budgeting philosophy. That's why North Carolina ran structural deficits to the point where they were withholding state income tax refunds from people. Yeah, like they took more money from your paycheck. And then when you filed your taxes and said, give me back my money. And they were like, yeah, no, can't do that just yet. We have to make payroll. So not going to give you your money at this point. And so they delayed the refunds. Let's see. That was also the reason why they withheld the refund money or the rebates or whatever they were to the local municipalities on the sales tax revenue. Oh, it was also. why they had to increase the state sales tax. And they did put a sunset clause in there, but then they went and took the sunset clause out because they saw a penny and they needed. To spend that penny. That's what the Democrats did when they were in control. And Roy Cooper was part of the Democrat machine, still is part of the Democrat machine from the. Jim Hunt, Mike Easley, bev. Purdue right that that's that was the modern iteration of the democrat machine because again people don't realize this if they've just moved to the state of north carolina within the last 15 years since republicans uh took over the uh general assembly and instituted all of the tax reforms that have propelled our state to be the magnet that it has become for people moving here as well as people uh locating uh businesses here um Before that happened in 2010, this state was run by Democrats 150 years since Reconstruction, since they since Democrats banded together with the Raleigh News and Observer and some other media outlets, some newspapers at the time and orchestrated a bloody coup down in Wilmington where they overthrew the Republican fusion government that had won election. The Republicans had banded together with black voters and they put together a slate and they won elections. And then Democrats and the Klan, with the media egging them on, went in and, you know, burned some places down and maybe, you know, ran some people out of town. Maybe there was some murdering that happened. They call it the Wilmington riots. I mean, it was an insurrection in America, in Wilmington. I believe it was 1898. And the Democrats have maintained power then for, you know, since 1900 all the way through 2010. And they just kept swapping out different political machines from different areas of the state. But it's all the Democrat machine. And Cooper's a part of that legacy. Oh, also, his family owned a bunch of slaves. For some reason, nobody cares about that. I don't know. Must be the big D shield that he enjoys. These are the questions that nobody asks him about. I mean, obviously, no one's going to ask him about, you know, his great great grandparents owning 140 slaves. They're not going to ask him about that. I mean, they can't even ask him whether or not he would vote to pack the U.S. Supreme Court, which is even more relevant to people casting a vote now. They don't even ask him about that. But at least somebody did ask him, what would you tell conservatives that worry about voting for you. Okay. Well, first off, conservatives are not going to be voting for Roy Cooper. Then you're not a conservative because Roy Cooper does not actually hold any conservative views. Okay. Now there may be some unaffiliated or even Republicans who are like, I hate Trump so much. I'm going to vote for Roy Cooper. But I don't know if those are conservatives. Let's see here. 704 number says if Cooper could lower prices, Why didn't he do that when he was governor or in his 40-year career? That's a very good question, 704 number, if that is your name. In fact, we've talked about some of the ways that Roy Cooper has actually increased the cost of stuff rather than making the stuff cost less. Energy, for example, that was a big one we covered a couple of weeks ago. I'll give you the highlights in a moment. All right, real quick, every government number gets revised, right? Our pal Matt Mercer over at Breitbart dot com writing about Roy Cooper's support for Biden era or error policies on energy and immigration. And we've covered the the energy stuff in the past. You can find all that, by the way, at the peat pod dot com. So Cooper. According to Matt Mercer's piece here, Cooper was one of the featured speakers at the post CNN debate on June 28th, 2024, when Biden attempted to yell his way through a speech following one of the worst debate performances in presidential history against President Trump in Atlanta. In his speech, Biden promised Cooper a cabinet appointment if he won reelection. Okay. Okay. Cooper was out there telling us all that Joe Biden is fit as a fiddle. He's not in cognitive decline. And this was after we saw him in the debate when everybody was like, oh, he's in cognitive decline. And Roy Cooper's like, no, because he had something personal to gain, a cabinet appointment. He was promised it in this speech by Joe Biden. Right. So don't tell me that you're in it for the people and too many others who put power ahead of the people like that's you. He also had some crazy line that was that was promoted by his allies in the North Carolina political press. And they were like, oh, my gosh, he's so funny. He made a joke. He he made a laughy, you know. when he said something like, Oh, you know, when I get to the Senate, I'll probably end up reducing the average age of the Senate. Ha ha ha. Oh my gosh. He's so funny. You should do stand up Roy. Yeah. Um, Roy Cooper is actually older than the average age of the U S Senate, which is somewhere in the neighborhood of like 58 years old. And he's about to turn 70. So he, He's wrong about that. You will actually raise the average age of the Senate. And in fact, Michael Watley is much younger than you are. So but that's the kind of stuff that we get from the North Carolina political press corps. The two term governor spent much of his time in office as governor backing Green New Deal policies, which drove up costs on North Carolina families. Electricity prices went up 30 percent during Cooper's tenure. nearly double that of neighboring Tennessee and Virginia. North Carolina's electricity prices rose faster than any other state in the Southeast. During his term. During the eight years he was in office, we saw electricity prices rise faster than any other state in the region. That's according to a state task force report. And this was reported by the Washington Reporter. back in August. And that's when we covered it first, when the reporter did that story. The North Carolina Utilities Commission, which Cooper appointed the majority of the. Members of the commission, right? And they all earned salaries of between like $ 150, 000 to $ 170, 000. So he put those people on the commission and they're the ones that approved the rate hikes. He also backed offshore wind energy projects in the outer banks. This despite the fact that military leaders said, that's a bad idea because we have pilot training operations that we do over the water out there. And if you put up a bunch of windmills, It's going to mess with us. But he still backed it. He was a proponent of the Paris Climate Accord. Remember that? That's who Roy Cooper is. So this idea that he is somehow going to be able to make stuff cost less, particularly on the energy side of the equation, that is what we call in the biz a lie. That's a lie. He's lying. From the text line, Gary says, Cooper is so establishment dimmed And so in line with Biden and Harris, he was a top VP candidate for Kamala. Wiley should just be running ads of him beside Kamala and Biden. 980 number says to Roy's claim that he has he has bucked his party leaders on numerous occasions. And I said, that's also a lie. I would ask him to name just one. And 980 number says numerous. Well, yeah, zero is a number, Pete. That's That's fair. That is fair. Um, the hellion says, uh, the word power must pull. Well, must, uh, yeah, you barely even knew Ray was governor media left him alone. Feel like that's where the hiding Biden protocol was birthed. Yeah. There are a lot of similarities to the campaign that Cooper is running right now to what Joe Biden ran in 2020, the basement campaign, a lot of similarities. Um, Travis says, well, there you have it. That's when Cooper stood up against his own party. They wanted to work with Republicans and Cooper stood in the gap and said, don't you dare. That's right. No, don't you work on a fix for HB2. I need it for my own personal political advantage. Meanwhile, we're going to lead a boycott and we're going to get the NBA All-Star game canceled from Charlotte. A lot of vendors, a lot of small businesses were hoping to make a bunch of money on that. Project. And no, no, can't have any of that. Roy needs the issue. Bain says Cooper is so middle school. Make things cost less for the people. These are silly. I mean, if there's anyone anywhere who actually wants to make things cost more or is against the people, Roy might as well add his slogans being anti-wildfire or pro-good weather. Yeah, like that's the thing. It is the most It is the most mundane pedestrian kind of. Campaign. And the only reason that he gets away with it is because North Carolina media allow him to do so. That's it. That's it. If they held him to a standard that they hold Republicans to on any of these topics, on anything. Like. He would not be able to defend himself. Anytime he gets a question like you just heard that question about what do you tell Republicans, which is, by the way, in reporter world, that's like the easiest way to ask a hard question in a softball way. Right. And you hear what he says. He just he just makes stuff up. He's not a good debater. That's why he wouldn't. It's why he won't debate and hasn't debated Michael Watley. Jeff says, how do you bring prices down, increase supply, encourage the supply side, so lower interest rates? Jeff says, wrong. Ray's budgeting philosophy is see a penny, spend a nickel. That's also fair. That's also fair. Graham says, Love the show. I can understand the fact that Roy Cooper says the things he says. What I do not understand, why so many people believe him. There are a lot of reasons. People don't pay attention. They don't know all of the stuff that we're going over and I've been covering. People don't know a lot of this stuff, number one. Number two, people have voted for him over the last 40 years. They don't want to have to admit that they may have voted for the wrong person. Also, people like to vote for the person who's going to win. That's what polling directs people towards. Right. Because they like to be on the winning team. They don't want to say that their guy lost. So they'll just vote for whoever seems to be the favorite. They don't they don't pay attention to the policies. Yankee Steve on the text line says I'm old enough to remember all of the rate increases from Duke Energy while Ray Cooper was governor. Yeah. Yeah. Sandy says, happy to have an extra hour. What kind of country do these elite socialists think they will be leaving to their children and grandchildren? One where their kin. Rule. That's the idea. Joey from Asheville, is the cease and desist letter to that reporter over asking about a candidate's health a first for North Carolina? Yes. Yes. As far as I know, I've never heard of another instance like that. Um, does anyone know a Watley staffer in the audience? Tell them to get a person listening to the show, getting memes and commercials out today. Pete has done more to help Watley than the Watley campaign has. Pete has put it out. Watley just, I don't even know what Watley is doing. I don't think why he thinks this is not important enough to tell people who Cooper really is. I assure you, they don't know most of what is put out there. All I can do is put it out there. Um, Big picture. Democrats are blatantly cheating, allegedly in Alaska. Not one candidate anywhere has articulated even the most basic policy proposal on how to lower the cost of anything anywhere. But there's going to be some kind of blue wave. Either Trump is beyond toxic. We're being subjected to the largest psyop in history or the electorate is hopelessly stupid. Um, why not all three, Joe? That's a false choice. It could be all of the above. Um, Back to Matt Mercer's piece at Breitbart. Cooper's ties to deep pocketed green energy donors. Cooper is tied to a green energy company facing a record $ 1. 1 billion fine in what federal regulators called a scam for the history books. According to the NC Tribune earlier this year, the family behind American Efficient, a disgraced company now, donated at least $ 886, 000 to North Carolina Democrats over the years, including almost 73 grand to Cooper. The family includes a sitting North Carolina state senator and a prominent donor whom Cooper appointed to a major state housing board. Cooper issued numerous executive orders promoting clean energy, including the launch of the NC Clean Energy Plan, a clean energy and equitable economy plan that included net zero carbon emissions, and committed North Carolina to zero emission transportation, all serving to benefit companies like American Efficient. And then there's the illegal immigration topic, which again, North Carolina political reporters don't seem to have any interest in asking Roy Cooper what he would do, because again, he has a record here. And I suspect they know what Roy Cooper would do, and so that's why they don't ask him, because they don't want that in the story. See, if you never ask the candidate the question, then the answer never gets into the story. On immigration, Cooper went along with the Biden-Harris open border agenda, vetoing three separate bills that would have required local law enforcement to work with ICE to and hold illegal aliens with active detainers in county jails. In 2019, following one of those vetoes, it was revealed that 489 illegal aliens with active ICE detainers were released. The detainers included illegal aliens charged with sex offenses, kidnappings, and homicides. In one of the cases, a man was released despite having an active detainer He then went on to strangle his 19-year-old girlfriend to death and then fled the state. Cooper, however, caved into the lobbying effort by the Soros-funded Siembra NC and vetoed the bill and said in his veto message, The legislation is simply about scoring partisan political points and using fear to divide North Carolina. So, gee, it's a real brain buster. How would Roy Cooper vote on, say, abolishing ICE or the Department of Homeland Security or going along with a mass amnesty program? Gee, I wonder. All right, that'll do it for this episode. Thank you so much for listening. I could not do the show without your support and the support of the businesses that advertise on the podcast.
