If you happen to call back, we'll get you in. I definitely want to deal with Bob. I think I sense Bob's emotion on this, and I get what he's talking about. It's the kind of what have you done for me lately? Attitude? And you know what, that's interesting if you want immediate you know, it's kind of like the having a medical condition that needs to be treated right now versus a medical condition that you get treated on a regular basis. And I didn't mean to compare it because I don't want to diminish his concern. He's saying they lied because my paycheck I'm not getting anything back. It's not just the same. But here's the interesting thing about that if you had overtime. So Trump wanted this had to go through the House. The House made changes and did their thing. The Senate changed things and did their thing. So now you have a bill. And that's what like Elon must said, you can get bigger, you can get beautiful, which you can't have both. So yeah, there was a lot done. But in the end, is there reprieve for people who get tips, Yes there is. Is there a reprieve for people who get overtime? Yes? There is. The other beauty of this thing that there wasn't mentioned and we didn't really have time to talk about, is that if you do get overtime, and we're not talking again. I love how Democrats want to say it's all it's all help and the rich. No, no, no, no, it's twelve five hundred dollars. So think about this year and it goes back retroactively to January first. So if you were all ready, if you've at this point had five thousand dollars in overtime or six thousand that you paid taxes on, and you're going to get another six thousand overtime before the end of the year, all of that, any of those taxes you paid, You get all of that back that you can deduct twelve thousand, five hundred dollars. And by the way, if you and your wife collectively, if you're married, you can deduct twenty five thousand dollars of overtime pay from your federal taxable income for the year. Now, if you make over one hundred and fifty thousand or whatever, then it kind of phases out there. It's really to help the middle class. So I don't like the tax code. I don't like it at all. I'd love to abolish the IRS in many ways and figure out a better system. But for what we've got, we have a tax code, we have a tax forms, we have this horribly regressive way that we deal with things. But nonetheless, yes, you if you are married, get twenty five thousand dollars, if you're overtime paid, will not be subject to taxes any taxes you paid on that twenty five thousand as reported by your employer, which is required by law. Guests to be taken off. That's boom free and clear for you. Dinner for tips tips are the same way. I mean, we want to act like it's terrible, but the first twenty five thousand dollars in two says reported by you to the government and by your employer. That is that comes off the top from January first. So if you worked a summer job and you made twenty five thousand dollars in tips, and you made fifty thousand dollars total, whatever, that twenty five thousand dollars is untaxable. So it wasn't a lie. It goes through the system by which things are made into law. Now, as far as prices, I get prices are we haven't returned to pre pandemic pricing. That is true. He's one hundred percent accurate. But don't pretend for a minute that it hasn't improved dramatically from you know, nineteen percent inflation under Biden, these absurd jumps in pricing. Inflation has come down to nominal. It's come down, and by the way, it's come down more than predicted, more than expected by the markets, more than predicted, more than expected even by the Fed, which will prompt a rate cut. There will be a rate cut at some point. But this pretense that it must be instant is just it's just not reality. There was no lie. Now, well, I think there's more there's to me, I think the Republicans are going to do well next year on this, And in fact, I have a column to the effect that what the Democrats are very concerned about right now is not that there were lies told about the bill. It's if the Republican did something fairly I guess, you know, I could say witty or wrong or whatever. But it's that they're very concerned that the more serious issues in the bill, from medicaid and stuff are past the midterms, meaning and there's a great column on that which I want to get to. It's from the Bulwark dot com. It's so Democrats were really cheering all of you know, We're we're gonna be great. People hate this bill that's polling on it's terrible, and they're going after the Republicans on it and cutting Medicaid and food assistance programs and the tax breaks to the ultra rich all that stuff. But now they're very concerned because what looked like a big opportunity is turning into a bit of a problem. The euphoria that Democrats had on this is now colored by the fear that the Republicans may not pay a steep price next year because when people start filing their taxes and they're getting these big checks of their money back, which I hate. By the way, I wish you get it now. I agree with the caller on that, I wish you could get it now. But when those checks start rolling in for every common man and woman out there, middle class, that's gonna that's heading into the election, So the way you feel now is not going to be the way you feel then. I get I wish it was sooner, but it's not a lie. So the Democrats are all excited about, Hey, we're gonna be able to beat trouble this, but they're saying, wait. Driving the change in Democrats moved from Euphorida concern is how the bill itself is structured. The most toxic part of it, like cuts to Medicaid, which just cuts to the rate of growth. By the way, and this is from the Bullwark, this is an anti kind of anti Trump position, but it's a realistic one. Is that the custom Medicaid don't go into effect until after the midterm. So Democrats saying, look, what's coming could be problematic for them. Well, just like the gentleman right now, he's like, hey, it's not happening to me. Now I'm not worried about it. I want it happening to me now I wanted helping me, same thing. Then it's not going to hurt them then. Also, the more popular items like a thousand dollars investment accounts for newborn kids goes into effect, already has gone into effect. Some Democrats are very concerned that their posture is going to alienate parents. It's very clever in that way. Democrat officials are also concerned that the party failed to present its own policy. To that caller, I was going to say, what's the policy alternative? The Democrats presented nothing. They didn't present tax cuts, that didn't present they didn't do anything. If they had just let it go, it would have been a massive tax increase. The Democrats presented nothing. But we hate him so as mad as people want to get it Trump and that gentleman, obviously is it lied to them. But what's your alternative? Do you think the Democrats were going to help you? Do you think the Democrats are going to take away your taxes on tips or help you with overtime pay, or give you any kind of tax cut whatsoever? Did you see one proposed you didn't. They didn't. You can't beat something with nothing. It's not a foregone conclusion at all that we will win back the House. The Democrats have said the seats are going to be very difficult. We have to figure out a way how to expand our brand in places that we're losing, and that is a process that's not going to happen overnight. So for me, Key Democrat Operative said, conversation around the big beautiful bill and offering alternative is as much about us restating our place as a party that fights for working families in the middle class, said Steve Shale, Florida based Democrat Operative. This was a missed opportunity for Democrats to not put forward a plan of their own about cutting cost and that is extremely popular. Cutting the cost of government is extremely popular with American people right now. Letting them keep more of what they earn very popular right now. Is the sausage that's made in the swamp pleasant to look at and watch. I don't think so. In fact, I know not, it's not. I think the Republicans and the reconciliation building the fall are going to deal with some of these, I think in the spring when they do another one right in the middle of the election season. That's gonna make a big difference for them. I do think at some point in time they really need to revisit the entirety of this odorous and ludicrous and ever present tax code that is deeper, broader, wider than biblical scripture. It is larger, it is a burden, it is demonic alls, it's horrible. Much more to go here on the Peak Calendar radio show on Newstalk eleven ten nine nine three WBT. All right, if you're listening to this show, you know I try to keep up with all sorts of current events, and I know you do too, And you've probably heard me say get your news from multiple sources. So as I go to break by the way, thank you to everyone that's interacting with I'm kidding. It's what I love about this. You can interact and call. You can text, by the way. If you do text that seven oh four five seven oh eleven ten, that's the WBT text line driven by Liberty Viewick GMC, same phone numbers. The call in numbers seven oh four five, sevenh eleven ten. So I appreciate the diversity of communications that are available these days, certainly on Twitter, if form, the know as X. Some of the folks that are listening, thank you guys, are hysterical. I appreciate a great sense of humor out there. The folks that are texting me former House members that are like yeah, and you you're right. There's nothing like. One of the things I've always loved about radio, especially if you're an extrovert, and I'm way out big e on the extrovert is the instant validation that having a platform gives you. And if you're doing terrible, you're going to know that too. But if you're doing well, the external validation is always nice. And it's also nice to get callers you disagree with, and that last caller that was just clearly upset. They felt lied to. But it's illustrative of a larger issue in society that has to do with fiscal understanding, educational. In fact, one of the listeners had gotten sent me some information and it reminded me of some stuff that I was involved in many years ago, was that I wanted to as a county commissioner. I said, you know, hey, we've got all these these employees out there. You want to help them get to retirement in a good way. And so we set up a part of the retirement plan beyond just the state is hey, we'll do this part of the retirement plan for the county and we'll have matching. I mean a lot of companies do it, and if you're a finance personnel, matching is a beautiful thing. We'd match up to five percent. And after about a year I went to the county manager at the time and I was like, hey, how's this plan coming along. We'd all agreed and it was a good thing employees. I felt it was good for them, and he said, yeah, we've got about you know, about five percent of employees, and you're kidding. But it showed me. It was very, very clear. And I was far younger then and still a financial junkie, so I was blown away because if you told me I could invest X amount of dollars and get one hundred percent rate of return no risk, by the way, zero risk, one hundred percent return. I'll take that every time. I will, you know, blind, crippled and crazy will cross that line to get to that one hundred percent rate of return. And the stock market is just you know, hey, you'll do it every single time. And it's compounded because you do that, you get one hundred percent rate of return and the next year five percent, another one hundred percent rate of return, So it's compounding plus what it's building as an investment tool. But both the listeners that were communicate with me offline were like, this show's a profound lack. You know, it's kind of what I see now versus what is good for me over the long haul. And that's where a lot of economic ignorance takes place. And that's a shame because people aren't seeing the long term benefit. They'll go and it's kind of like people who live on credit cards. So if you're living on a credit card, you're not paying that off every month, then you've got these ludicrous fees that kick in. It's like you're borrowing money at eighteen. The same people that will complain about, you know, fast food being too expensive, for groceries being too expensive, will go out and spend on their credit cards and then pay the minimal payment every year or every month and end up racking up, you know, eighteen nineteen, twenty twenty one percent interest. That there's an absurdity there that is very, very difficult to overcome, and no amount of having a rational discussion will overcome the emotion that one feels. They don't even think so you think, hey would you pay? Say hey, you see that stake that's really overpriced at twenty dollars a pound, would you be willing to pay forty dollars a pound for it? They're like, oh, hell no, I'd never do that. Well, you don't pay your credit card bills, so that steak's cost you forty dollars a pound't. They don't connect those dots. And it's a real shame because it's a boat anchor for those individuals trying to get ahead. But true, nonetheless, now and I want to cry again, it wasn't beating up the Democrats. That's certain. It's easy to do that, but they have to have more than we hate Trump. And I'll get to some of that as we move along here. And I want to get to the motherhood. I've been trying to get to the motherhood story all week and I just haven't been able to do that. And so with respect to when I'm looking at all the things written out there, what's happening now is you're seeing and I'll give you an example of the bias in the way of the political left and media work. I love to do those stories because I could do eighty hours or shows on just that. So the Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation, which is odd most people would say, wouldn't do that. You'd open it with an arrest or an indictment or something. Has opened a criminal investigation into two long time targets. This is from MSNBC Targets to President Donald Trump, former FBI director James Comey, former CIA director John Brennan. The move not only is now, this is where I want you to think, for those of you who have the ability to rationally put thoughts together about what this article is saying versus the reality of the world. The article goes on the move not only is a sign of sque delating authoritarian energy in the Trump administration, but it also buttresses the president's attempts to rewrite history. Now that if you're looking for bias and media, I just identified it to you. There it is. There's a huge bias there. Now they say it's a writer editor, but also an opinion writer, so editor, So they say, well, this can be. There's nothing authoritarian about John John Brennan and James Commy. If they broke the law. What happened to Democrats say, no, one's above the law. By the way, if you're looking for people who did authoritarian stuff, Nothing is more authoritarian than going after the lead opponent of the other party and using everything you can in multiple states, including DC, to try to put your opponent in jail. Because you can't beat them at the ballot box, you have to create different things to try to get them on You wanted to get that mug shot. How's that Fanny Willis story going for you? How's the Latisa James Oh? I own property in residence in another state, but I'm the Attorney general for New York. How's that going for you? How's the undervaluing of mar A Lago to make a court case. How's the Alvin Bragg? Let's create new ways of indicting someone on a felony that no one's ever been indicted for. Those things were absolutely authoritarian ways of doing things. The James Comey and John Brennan, the creator the Russia Russia Russia narrative, and the defenders of status quo stuff that wasn't true. But you're calling that authoritarian. They're taking their time. I thought were laws broken. Maybe they weren't. But you know, when you peddled false narratives not just before the American people, but in office, and you use the resources of your department to target a politician. That's authoritarian. Arresting them for doing it. That's not authoritarian. That's justice. I hate to tell you that's justice. MSNBC just doesn't get it. NBC reports that John Radcliffe released an internal CIA review that criticized Brennan's handling of the Russia Russia Russia intel assessment concluding that Vladimir Putin wanted to help Trump defeat Clinton. That review found flaws in the assessment, but didn't dispute the conclusion. According to NAC, I hope that My suspicion is it ever sees the inside of a courtroom, I would love for it too. Nothing would be more beautiful than seeing Komi who did push false narratives and did use the US government. Now, is that indictable, I don't know. But they acted as political operatives more they did as more than they did as experts in their field. But again MSNBC's instant reaction is that's an authoritarian movement. They never considered authoritarian when the president went after his opponent. They also are very reluctant to figure out who the hell was in charge of the country when a president was clearly incompetent and unable to execute the duties of the presidency and should have been removed. But that's okay with some media outlets. I guess much more to go here on the show Pete Calender's radio show that is chat Outams your guests. We'll be right back after this. Visit creative video dot com. Good afternoon, Continuing our discussion, or at least a discussion. I guess you could say about a number of issues, most tend to be political in nature. I hope we don't devolve into just one big emotional mass. You know that we just it's instant meltdown. It's very predictable, and everyone's justified their anger all the time, because that makes for a very poor life. When you get to the end of your life and you say, if only I could have been anger, angry more, I don't think you would say that. I don't think anyone would desire that. Life is so precious, so short, and as every every disaster or act of violence or anything else, you realize how precious and short it can be. So I don't know. Try what I love about talk RIGHTO? Is we tend there tends to be a tone. Certainly there is a perspective. It's timely topical. It allows for various viewpoints. You've heard on the show today. People call in and in one event, and sometimes it's emotional, and sometimes you know, it's probably somewhat cathartic for them to just nah word voment, word vomit and then you know, think about what they said and cogitate on it some and hopefully come back with a with at least more of a measured way of looking at things. I'm not castigating those who want to go down that path, but nonetheless, you know, if you if you want to reach a higher understanding, you need to escape the overtly emotional side of things. There's a good piece on this with The Liberal Patriot. I like it. I think it calls to what a lot of talk radio people do. It's so interesting because Rush Limbaugh remarkable. You know, his in his time on radio, was really good at infusing humor. And you know, the left may have hated him, but he wasn't full of hate. He didn't like Democrats, you didn't like their policy, but it wasn't hate based. Talk radio isn't, by and large isn't hate based. I mean, there are some out there that have spouted it, but it's it's not that way. If you're required to analyze American politics all day for work, or you somehow enjoy this form of pain. It's hard to miss how emotional the entire enterprise has become in recent decades. Politics, of course, has always involved leaders harnessing complex feelings and instincts among the populace, who advance policy objectives, gain power, and punished perceived enemies. For time immemorial, shrewd politicians have preyed on the sentimental ticks of humans, pressing their psychic buttons and pitting one group against another. It's very astutely written, is it not. But let's continue now with basically everyone in America possessing little pocket mind manipulators. I love that calling your phone a pocket mind manipulator. I like that the emotional content of politics has exploded. Consider the new Trump and GP tax and budget legislation, the not at all emotionally labeled one big beautiful bill. According to partisan chatter, the act is either quote maga murder bill that is literally the death sentence to thousands of Americans, or it's the single most popular bill ever signed. It will usher in a golden age of America. Big range there. Or consider Trump's recent decision of on three Iranian nuclear sites. Various This describe variously described as the beginning of a nuclear World War three by ideological critics like Marjorie Taylor Green, or as the basis for awarding Trump the Nobel Peace Prize by ideological supporters like Benjamin net Yahoo. Don't think you can get the Nobel Prize for starting a world war, but maybe you could get it for averting one. Which one is it? Lost in the emotional propaganda of contemporary politics is any rational discussion the pros and cons of policy. I know policy is boring. That's when you when you listen to me, I'm going to get into the nuances of policy, because to me, policy is it's it's not just how the sausage is made, it's the sausage itself. That's what policy is. And it has consequences, both intended and unintended, and that's just what it is. But back to the column. Lost in the emotional propaganda is rational discussion about policy, neutral evaluations of legislated language and motives, and measured examination of outcomes and the necessary adjustments to improve complex legislation or executive orders. Partisan path dependency requires that democrats uniformly hate and despise everything that Trump is doing. It also requires Republicans to uniforms uniformly love and praises every action dissonance, meaning Democrats might be okay with some of Trump's policies or Republicans might disagree with others. Those are not allowed in the arena will be subject to the partisan star chamber. Economists and political scientists have done some fascinating work on the role of emotions, looking at both the demand side and the supply side, meaning what people believe and want versus what the leaders offer. So they do a number of things where they look at this on a chart, and what they show is there's kind of a rise in anger from both side. There's a lot of more emotional content based in anger, more about anger than discussed fear, sadness, and gratitude combined from Democrats and Republicans. That is continued to escalate. If you get the sense that everyone in politics is mad about everything some of the time, almost certainly based on what the other sides that are did and what they didn't, you're not missing the bigger picture, losing your mind. Politics today is predominantly about anger, and that to me, there's a lot more to this piece, but that to me is the big loss That to me is you know, if you want to be angry, you can do that. But it makes us all kind of teenagers, doesn't it? That knee jerk to everything. I mean, we've got a great, big American experiment. We've got a lot of potential. I happen to be a conservative because I believe those ideas expressed by limited government, lower taxes and more freedoms is the path of prosperity, economic prosperity and safer community, law enforcement and stuff like that. Doesn't mean that I exclude other ideas. It's just that over time, it's proven to me to be that's the way we're most people are helped the most. Is it perfect? That's the other discussion I don't like is, especially on this immigration, look at what they're doing to the poor children and the women, and I'm thinking to myself, that's terrible. But that's not all. The preponderance of what they're after are criminals, those with criminal back There's thousands and hundreds of thousands of these people, but with criminal backgrounds, that's who we're trying to get to first. But you can't have that discussion because to the left all is good people and to the right. Sometimes all is bad people. And the truth of the matter, when you get a population of eleven million people that you don't know who they are in your backyard, how many of you would just invite strangers to live in your house. You wouldn't. But we invited him into our country, which is our house. Our country is our house collectively. Much more to go on the other side of the break, we will get to this, the war on motherhood, and I've been trying to get to this for a few days. I hope I can pull it off. At this point in time. It's a great it's a great moment to reflect since we're kind of moving toward a reflective moment, that's where I'd like to goet know, much more to go. What an optimistic place to be jumping through Thursday with that one. Appreciate you joining me today on a wonderful show. Pete Calender's show, and he'll be back next week. And hope he's enjoying his time off. Chat Adams your guest host News Talk eleven, ten ninety nine three wbt's we head toward the top of the third hour. Now it's been It's funny because I flagged the following story on Monday, but we got so caught up as actually not Monday, it would have been Tuesday. And it's about you know, I talked about the problem with young men and women these days, and it's not them, it's what's being thrust upon them, asked of them, how they're being judged, how they're being treated society to kind of gobble these stuff they you know, the confused mentality to bring home with them and what they must wrestle with. It's in between their ears rather than the reality of society that's out to get them every day. Look, the universe is out to get you. Make no mistake. It's not intentional. It's just by design. We're a very frail critter running loose in a big old world, spinning through space. If there's one thing the corporate media, it's more than tradition. It's motherhood. We've seen the time and again, from the glossy magazine covers glorifying child free living to the snide late night jokes about breeders and quote stay at home moms. It's not very subtle. It's not subtle at all. The war on motherhood is loud, proud, and broadcast twenty four to seven across most major platforms. And make no mistake, this isn't just about personal choice. It's a coordinated cultural campaign to devalue perhaps women's most essential role, being a mother. By the way, the author of this is isabel Brown. She is a content creator, she's rich. She's got a show called The Isabelle Brown's Show. While I've always been aware of the assault on motherhood, it became increasingly killed clear to me after I found out. After she found out she was pregnant, Suddenly there was an abstract concept but very real propaganda attempting to convince women like her that babies weren't blessings, but they were burdens. She soon discovered that she was expecting a daughter, and the noise got louder. Last August, the United States Surgeon General issued an official public health advisory that parent was bad for your health. This is the Biden administration. Just days before election day, the Los Angeles Times ran the headline quote, It's almost shameful to want to have children. A few weeks after that, the author of this appeared on a leading women's podcast with a board certified family medical physician who tried to convince her that men could get pregnant seriously in a society this is we that's only the left could introduce a concept like that. Right back to the columny and a society obsessed with empowering women. You'd think the act of bringing life into the world, raising the next generation, and shaping civilization itself would be celebrated in many countries. It is, but not in hours. But the author said she came to discover that in the eyes of our media elite's real empowerment only comes if it comes with a corner office, a six figure salary, or a blue check mark on social media. San's kids. Of course, you don't want to have kids because that would make you less than diapers and breastfeeding. Well, that's apparently a sign of weakness, or worse, oppression. This is a narrative built on lies. The author said she's seen it at firsthand among young women, especially gen z Oro, are terrified of embracing motherhood because the culture tells them they'll be quote throwing their life away. They're told their dreams can't coexist with a family, that having children will destroy their bodies, ruin their careers, and make them irrelevant. Turn on any Netflix show, scroll TikTok for five minutes, and you'll see the mom is exhausted, overbearing, or completely clueless. She's the butt of the joke, never the hero. As a result, TikTok trends like the girl with the list gloss, our feeds amplifying shallow fears about motherhood to convince women they should never become pregnant. The abortion lobby gets away with their hyperbolic, incessant propaganda that women quote, will literally die if we don't end the lives of kids inside us. Every doctor's appointment concludes with a push for hormonal birth control, you know, just in case. Contrast that with how media and social media like treat boss babes or hot girl CEOs. Their lives are glamorous, interesting, They we clothes, they have nice purses, they're independent, they're free, but a deep, meaningful relationship is often nowhere to be found. The truth, though you're not going to hear it on CNN. Your favorite influencer or Vogue is that motherhood and I agree with what she says here one hundred percent. Motherhood is one of the most radical, powerful and rewarding things a woman can do. It's not an obstacle to purpose. It is purpose, and yet it's been reduced to a punchline in our culture because it doesn't fit a progressive narrative. The narrative says that women must be the same as men to be valuable, that femininity, sacrifice, and nurturing are old fashioned relics, their social constructs to be discarded in favor of huzzle culture and sexual liberation, and the media eats it up. It tells us that surrogacy, childlessness, or even rejecting the idea of womanhood entirely is somehow brave and beautiful. It's not while sneering at the mom pushing a stroller or loading up a car seat baby in tow. But here's the irony. Those same outlets panicking about low birth rates, broken families, and rising loneliness are the ones mocking and marginalizing women who could offer a solution one. Our generation of strong women desperately needs to reclaim that narrative. Not every woman will be a mother, that's okay, but every woman deserves to know that motherhood is not something to fear. It's not the end of your life. It's the beginning of a deeper, more beautiful one. It's a calling filled with fierce love, incredible strength, and eternal impact. It's something worth pursuing, even in a culture demanding you run in the other direction. And what she writes in the end is she says, so to every young woman watching the world trying to shame you out of your God given calling, don't buy the lie. Don't let headlines dictate your worth. Motherhood is not a weakness. It's your superpower, and it's time to start treating it that way. This is and that's the end of her column. It's from the Daily Signal. But to me, that's that's one of the worst things we're telling society is we need we need future good citizens, we need parents to have kids. And it's one of the highest callings you can have. If you raise a good person and put them in the world and give them the opportunity to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, that's the human species goes on. Because, if you think about it, the political left doesn't like personhood that much. They can't. They don't like to define what a woman is. By the way, the political right didn't come up with that concept. The political right didn't come up with putting men in women's sports. The political right didn't come up with gender as a social construct. The political right didn't come up with trans kids. The political right didn't come up with let's make women feel bad for wanting to have kids. The political left did all of those things. Now that doesn't I'm not saying they're evil or horrible people or anything like that. But the point is, if you look at where the war on women is coming from, we've gone from braa burning to let's get rid of kids because it somehow makes you less. It actually makes you more. Only women can have kids, This concept of men giving birth, this is silly, no matter what. It's kind of like being a twin. If you ask a twin what it's like to be not a twin, they can't because ever they've only ever known being a twin. It's like being male or female. You can't know, even if you try to change it. If you do all this, you're not You never will be. You can't biologically be X Y and XX chromosomes fixed. You can't undo that. You can't unring the bell. You can want it, you may desire, you may think it, but it's not it. It's not the same. It just is the way it is. It's the world as it is. It's as if a meteor fell and you wanted to sue God for bringing it about. It's just not reality, and we need to start remembing our remembering our mortality and our role here as people who care about their fellow man and cherish life because it's precious and women.
