I'm I'm pulling the plug on it. I can't do anymore. I cannot listen to any more of it. And frankly, I got to the part where I had gotten into the studio and gotten the links working, and so I heard the remaining questions there, and there really wasn't much except for a question about turnstiles that we haven't covered yet, where they were like, well, you know, if you put the turnstiles in, it slows everything down, you know, because we want to be able to provide the ten minute intervals on the light rail in fifteen minutes on the buses, So if you put turnstiles in, it slows it down. And we have an open system, and it was designed as an open system and it's integrated into the community and all of this. And so you you know, if you were to harden the transit platform the train platforms, I mean, there's a huge expense in doing that, right, because you have to now wallet in and then you have to put turnstiles in, and then that slows down the whole process. And it wasn't designed as that, and most light rail systems are open systems. So that was what the answer to that was. So it doesn't sound like they're going to be doing you know, turnstiles or a closed system. Doesn't seem like there's any appetite for that. Let me see if I can clear out some of the texts that people have been sending in. I've got a bunch of them here. So this is from an eight O three number. What's an unarmed security guard going to do when an incident happens use harsh language, Well, they will call to they'll call for backup. That's what they're there for, right, visible presence. And maybe you don't know if that visible presence has a firearm, right because like, I don't want to tell these people how to do their jobs. But if it's me, I'm making all of the armed and unarmed security personnel look the same, all have the same uniforms, right, all wearing the same stuff. So this way nobody knows who actually is armed and who isn't. So this way it's a force multiplier kind of a thing, right, It's an it's sort of an air marshal model where you don't know if that person is simply an unarmed person or that they are actually a law enforcement off duty CMPD wearing you know, wearing the uniform, although I guess they would probably wear their own uniforms CMPD. I think they're allowed to wear their uniforms when they're doing the moonlighting gigs. Right, So that so that was it. He also mentioned fair evasion, you know, pointing out the New York City subway, you know, the New York system. They've lost a billion dollars in fair evasion. But I broke all those all that data down like a week ago. I find that to be a not very helpful comparative because we have no idea what our number is. We have no idea like as a proportion of the total ridership, what is fair What is the portion of riders that are evading the fares. And by the way, the New York number included toll roads people who don't pay on the toll roads, and the HOV lanes and stuff, so it's not quite a billion dollars, but still, yes, they lose a lot of money also in fair evasion, and they been trying to crack down on that in New York City subways and the Long Island Railroad as well. However, if I don't know what proportion of the ridership is fair evading in New York City, and I don't know what the proportion of the ridership is fair evading in Charlotte, or what that cost is, I have no idea how to compare our system to theirs. So you telling me that New York City has lost a billion dollars because of fair evasion, I mean, that's an interesting number, but I don't know what to do with that number. I like that that cannot guide any kind of a decision here because there's no comparative. Okay, yeah, let me I'll go ahead and get Brian here front of the line. Brian, welcome to the show. Hey, how's it going? Oh, you know, it's going all right, how's it going with you? Oh it's beautiful. Man's beautiful. Yeah, Charlie, that's a magnificent city. I love it. No problems at all, right, I don't have any at all. No, that's awesome for you. No, that's fantastic. Yeah. Yeah. And you know when I was called, I was talking to you guys that answers the phone, and I'm like, man, all these complaints that these people are having about Charlotte and crime, and you know, the police are not doing their job. They can't do this or do that or whatver. Nobody said the police aren't doing Nobody said police aren't doing their job. Well, everybody, what I have said, no, Brian, hang on. What I have said is that the police are doing their job and the breakdown is occurring in the court system. Okay, well the court system is not doing this job. And if you have all these complaints, and your constituents have all these complaints, why don't you I just move? Ah there you go, so shut up, yeah right, shut up. So this thank you for articulating the go to argument of the left, which is shut up, just stop talking about these things. Don't try to improve anything, right, hang on, Brian, So do you understand what what what's seeking redress from your government means? Do you know what that means? Am I allowed to speak? Now? Yeah? I asked you a question. Okay, So is isn't it like when people complain about America? Don't you guys say, hey, man, if you don't like American. Lead No, No, I'm saying no, I'm saying, if you want to fundamentally transform Brian. Okay, you asked me a question, so now I'm going to answer. Unlike you not answering my question, So I'm going to answer your question, which was that when you don't want to me, I don't know, Okay, And that's why I asked if you know it's right? So you can seek redress from your government? This is constitutionally prete. What does redress mean? It means if you have. It means if you have grievances, you have complaints, if you need to be compensated. If you have you know you you've got something that you need the government to do. You need to be able to petition the government for redressed, for for a fix, for a solution. Right. So, so what you consider to be complaining, couldn't that also be seeking redress. You however you want it. But no, that that is exactly what it is, though, Brian, this is democracy. I understand that. But that's the answer that you get when people complain about American complain about what's going on, they lead the country. No, no, no, no, Okay, So I'm gonna go all right, I will answer no, I will answer. Number one is twofold number one. A lot of conservatives have already left Charlotte number one because because they recognize the direction that Charlotte is going. Number two, let them all lead. Yeah, there you go, see there, shut up right, that's that you are articulate. You are articulating. They hang on, hang on, Brian, Brian, Brian, Brian, Brian stopped. I'm answering your question. Still. So that was number one. A lot of conservatives have left. But number two, there's a difference between there's a difference between complaining about policies that are in place versus trying to fundamentally transform the very institutions that make the country or in this case, the city what it is. There's a difference. Okay, So who's trying to who's trying to do that? Well, when conservatives pushed back, and when people say we want to fundamentally transform our country, conservatives and constitutionalists would say, well, then you should find another country to go to. Right, you should leave because that's not the founding principles upon which our country was built. Man, that's so much garbage you that is, that's the. Answer to It's not garbage, Brian, not so, Brian. It's not the same issues America. And that is so much garbage that you put in out. Believe that's garbage. Explain why, all right, Explain why it's garbage. Explain why? Explain why, Brian? Explain why? Explain why? Use your words. Try to find some good words and use your words to explain why my argument was garbage. Explain it what you said. What you're saying is that when we're telling you to leave America, it's because you're trying to fundamentally change I know what I said. You said it was garbage. You don't have to repeat my words. I'm asking you what I'm getting. Are you going to keep interrupted mail? If you waste my time and we're up against the break, You're damn right, I am, so get to your point. Explain it. You're not addressing it I'll tell you what, Brian, I'll tell you what. I'm gonna put you on hold, Brian, and in the during the break, try to think up an explanation for why what I said is garbage. Not just to keep saying it's garbage, but why think about it. I'll give you like three four five minutes here. You know, stories are powerful. We have now given Brian sufficient time to contemplate a response. A simple question that I asked was why, because he said what I had said was garbage, And I asked him why, explain to me why it's garbage, and Brian, uh, oh, well, now, so Brian did not hang on. I am as shocked as you. This is this is what I mean when I say democrats the left have become intellectually flabby. You have not worked out your rhetorical muscle enough to formulate an argument that would approach persuasiveness. You have no answer. Brian's only response was a form of shut up. That's what he is advising for all the people that disagree with the way Charlotte is run. Even though we live here, we are allowed to comment on our democracy, right, we are allowed to participate in the democracy. We're allowed to be a part of this. In fact, we helped build it. Yeah, for two hundred plus years. People that Brian hates have built the city that he enjoys now, and now that he has the upper hand politically speaking, he now says, leave, shut up, go build another city someplace else, so we locusts can come in and destroy that too. So no, I mean no, I'm I'm not going to stop talking about the policy failures of our local government. It's not going to happen. Brian. Sorry, not sorry, But for anybody who was confused like Brian, there is a difference when saying, you know, I love Charlotte. I want Charlotte to be the best it can be, and I want to have policies within the framework of our principles are founding principles of a free market and a free people right. I want those principles to guide the policies, and so we want these specific changes. I want our city to be safe, and so here are the policy changes I want to see. That's what's called participating in civic life. That is participatory government. And just because you don't have an answer, because you can't defend your position, just because you don't have an explanation as to why things have gotten worse, and you don't want to hear people complaining about why they've gotten worse. You don't want to hear it. That doesn't mean I shut up. In fact, it makes me talk more. I will keep talking more. In fact, you should take your own advice there, Brian, and you should just leave the audience because obviously what I am saying and what the audience is saying, and people are talking about, and they're concerned about crime and safety, and you don't care to hear it. So why don't you get the hell out of my audience? How about that? Right, that's what you want. But it's interesting that he's saying we should all get out, we should leave, we should shut up. But he didn't like it when he heard conservatives saying you should leave. And then when I explained to him the core difference in the arguments is that one is a policy level and one is a principle level. And he said that's garbage, and he had no explanation. I said I would hold him over. He could think about an answer to explain why the argument is garbage. And rather than you know, walk towards the fight, he fled. He bailed intellectually flabby. Right, he's rhetorically weak. He cannot make an argument, and so he just says shut up, throws insults and runs away. And that, my friend, is why Democrats suck at governance. It is. You guys are not persuading anybody. You're not winning hearts and minds, right, You're just doing the power trip. So it's unfortunate that you know, we have to live here while you guys go through these masturbatory motions. But you know here we are, and no, I've been I've been following city policy in Charlotte for twenty six years. I'm not going to stop now because you don't want to hear what I have to say. So he's just go tune into somebody else that tells you everything you want to hear. Steve, Welcome to the show. Hello Steve, Hey, Pete, how you doing. Hey, I'm good. What's up? Okay, got a couple things here real quick. We got this election coming up in about what four weeks? Yeah? Yeah, So I'm seventy six years old and I've lived in Charlotte my entire life except for my time in the military during Vietnam, and I've been here ever since. And it breaks my heart to see what I'm seeing in this city. But I want to ask you a question about the mayor's ray. Do you know do you know who Terry Donovan is? She's the Republican in the race. Yeah, yeah, unless I've just not heard anything at all from from WBT, I don't hear this woman's name being even mentioned that she's running against the mayor, much less getting any support. And uh, I'm just going to encourage you get her on your show this okay, But we only got four weeks, Pete, and uh, and this woman is outstanding. And the other thing is the North Carolina g o P isn't even uh getting her name out here. You know why that is? No, you have no idea why that is? Why why the GOP isn't isn't supporting her? Well, yeah, they are supporting her, But why is it that her campaign doesn't have a lot of financial backing? Why does it not have a lot Yeah, I can't answer that. Okay, I will tell you it's because the voter demographics in Charlotte make it a bad bet when you have limited resources, if you have to devote money to a to a you know, let's say you've got you know, you got one hundred races across the state. You're the state party right, you got one hundred races, you got legislative battles, you got some municipal battles and stuff. Or you're the county party and you're trying to raise money, but you've got some city council seats going, you got the mayor's race, you got you know whatever other races. You're trying to work on. Legislative races too. When you look at the voter demographics by party registration, you have a decision to make about how much money to spend on advertising for a race that will likely not you will you are not likely to win because there are not enough Republicans in Charlotte City limits to vote for a Republican candidate. Like we look this audience, the WBT audience does not approve of the job that Mayor vy Lyles has been doing. Right, I think that's fair to say. If I had to, if I had to guess, I would say our audience is not happy with her. That being said, how much of our audience lives inside the city of Charlotte and can actually vote against her, Right, that's a smaller segment, but more importantly, outside of our audience, democrats like her. The business, the business community. They're fine with her. They're absolutely fine with her because she she plays ball with them. So that's part of the problem. But that's what you're up against. But that's what you're up against. That's why you don't hear the advertising. You don't see a lot of you know, see a lot of ads on TV. There's because that's what any Republican is running up against. Any Republican. Can I read you a quote from Kyle Kirby? Okay? How long is it? Oh? Not even a paragraph? Okay Megelberg County UFP chhair Kyle Kirby joined to support her candidacy. What it does is gives us an opportunity to show how the city and the county have been mismanaged over the last few years, the last decade even and gives us an opportunity to bring accountability and show people what true governance is like. Now, how can you make that statement? And then this is the only person, I mean, where's the GOP over these last ten years pitting people against these communists we have run in our city. They have ain't putting Steve. Maybe they haven't Steve. First off, you all right, I'm gonna have to put you on holl because I'm gonna be late for the news. They have put people up and they get blown out. And you have to have people that run for the office that are willing to run, and that's another problem. So when I was a kid, my grandpa died with Alzheimer's, and before he died, my mom and my dad took care of him as he got worse. Forty years ago, there were no treatments and not much support for caregivers and family. But things are different today because of the work of so many people, including the Alzheimer's Association of Western Carolina. It's a great organization with awesome people with huge hearts. I've been a supporter for twenty five years. This cause means a lot to me. I participate in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's and I'm leading a Charlotte team again this year, and it's called once again Pete's Pack. You can sign up and you can join the team and walk with us. It's on October eighteenth that truest field sign up at alz dot org slash walk and then you could search for my team name Pete's Pack. There's also a link at the petepod dot com. There's also a link in the description of this podcast. Also, I'll be am seeing the Gastonia Walk on October eleventh, and so you can make a team and join that one too, or make a donation and help me hit my goal of five thousand dollars. If you do, I really appreciate it. There are a bunch of other walks all over the Carolinas. You can go to alz dot org slash walk for all the dates and locations. We're closer than ever to stopping Alzheimer's. Can you help us get there? Will you walk with me? For a different future, for families, for more time for treatments. This is why we walk, all right, let me see if Steve is still there. He's still there, Steve? Yes, all right, yes, sir. So the question on whether or or you know why Republicans don't even field candidates, and there are a couple different reasons for this, depending on what races you're looking at. But if you're specifically looking at, like the judicial races, to get more Republican judges. Number one, it's very difficult, right because of the voter registration demographics in Mecklamburg County, there are not a lot of Democrats that are going to vote for Republican judges. It does happen. It happens more so than the other way around. But Republican candidates for judge don't usually win. Right. And so if you are a lawyer in meccliberg County and you're a Republican lawyer, you are then going up against a legal community that is predominantly Democrat. And when you do that, right, you're now going to be going to your colleagues or people that are, you know, lawyers also that you are arguing cases against, Like you know this lawyer, you've been in court together, you've worked together at some other firm, whatever. This is your professional network, you know, and now you're going to be running against a judge and they're all putting money against you, right, And so that then creates concerns that if I appear before this person I'm trying to unseat, am I going to get a fair shake? Right? It's a like there's a professional component to this for lawyers running as judges. Okay, okay, I understand that, but but Pete, could we consider that what's what we've experienced in the last sixty days here in Charlotte with with our mentally sick mayor and all this stuff that's that's come out about how absolutely horrible they are and they have no heart for somebody being murdered. Don't you think this could change some of the hearts of Democratic voters that could say, Hey, this ain't right, We're going to vote for somebody else per mayor. Do you not think that could happen? Sure, I mean it could happen. I mean anything could happen. Yeah. Well, I just my heart just goes out to this woman. She's she's not known, she has an excellent history, you know, of her past performances in life, and I just I really want to encourage all of you guys on BT give this lady's name as much exposure as you can because people don't know her, and the ncg OP isn't helping anybody to know her because of money. Just money. Well you explained it to me. Right, Well, that's my assumption, right. I don't know if they're not doing anything to help her. I don't know if that's true. But yeah, again, if they if they have a pot of money and they're looking at races to back candidates and they're going to make a determination based on whether or not they think somebody can win. Right now, I don't know how much money they have they've helped her with their campaign or resources, call banking, text messaging, right, So I just I don't know that. So like I would just I would just be hesitant to say that they're not helping her at all, because they may. They don't. There's no advertisements on your radio station for her from them there that would billboards, there's no nothing out there with her name on it anywhere. Right. But also part of that is going to be up to her her campaign, right she has agency in here as well. She has the ability to raise money and buy advertising as well. But like I said, our audience, those that live inside the city of Charlotte, our audience is probably going to vote for her, right right. So the question then is how do you get people so like from her campaign standpoint, Let's say she's got you know, thirty thousand dollars. I don't know what she's I have no idea what she's been able to raise. But let's say she has like twenty thirty thousand dollars, are you going to spend that on campaign ads? On WBT where you know you're already going to get those City of Charlotte Republican leaning voters to vote for you anyway, or maybe you spend that money on digital advertising that you can target to unaffiliated voters that are less likely to vote. Right, So there are better There may be better ways that the campaign has decided to spend the money that you're not seeing because you're not the tar. They know that you're you're going to turn out and vote for her by your your your track record, because they have all that data. They know every single race you voted in, if you voted in the Republican primaries, right, they know you are an a voter. They've got your vote on Lockdown. They don't have to worry about you. So they're going to spend that money trying to get people that aren't lockdown. They're going to maybe do that, or maybe they do a get out the vote efforts, right like work with some you know, get some vans going, some churches going to help get out the vote, souls to the polls kind of a thing. Right, So I don't know how they're allocating their resources. So okay, right, just because you're not seeing it doesn't mean they're not doing stuff. Okay, that that helps me a lot, Pete. Now I appreciate that about you. I do have one other question I'd like to get your thoughts on, and then I'll get off of here. You know, if if say, some guy breaks into somebody's home and shoots them and then they run away and somebody's harboring them, hiding them, that person hiding them is charged as an accessory to that crime. Correct, right, yes, correct. Okay, So here here's my solution for stopping all of this. The magistrate, the mayor, the city council, this worthless DA meriweather that we have. All of these people should be charged as accessory to murder for what happened on that choot you train at Pat McCrory put in town. All right, So I will tell you this all of that slight flaw in your in your in your proposal, Steve, and then I got to let you go. Slight flaw is that the charges would have to be filed by the DA himself. So I don't think he's gonna do it, not against himself. I appreciate the call. Good conversation, Steve. Have a great weekend. Here's a great idea. How about making an escape to a really special and secluded getaway in western North Carolina. This was Brett's idea to do the hangover first, and then I co opted his idea and made him come in early to do the pre Yes. So, hey, have you heard that Apple I Tunes or I Store whatever it's called. I'm not an Apple guy. They they removed the ice block app yes from their store. Yes. Are you okay with that? That Apple? Apple is censoring the ice block app. It's kind of interesting because they were getting progressively better. I think because if you go back to the San Bernardino terrorist attack way back in the in the old days of the Obama days, when there was never terrorism except when there was terrorism. Right, Remember, Apple refused to break into their iPhones back in the day, and they had to go the I think the fan belt inspectors had to go to Israel and get somebody to give them that technology, and they did it. They were able to crack into the stuff. So I say that this is maybe a glimmer of Apple potentially being patriotic in some ways. Somewhat sane, Yeah, somewhat sane. I mean, you know, I don't know. I don't know what Wozniak thinks about it, but but I do think I think this is progress, especially when you're dealing with, you know, people attempting to murder federal officers in broad daylight or dark of night. And boy, how how it's all shifted because I thought once upon a time you were not allowed to fight uh, federal agents like at J six. Right now, I guess it's okay. So what is the what is the declension of this? I don't understand. Yeah, it's well so for folks who are not aware. Ice Block was this app developed by I got the moron's name here, some Joshua Aaron and he uh, he is disappointed. He says, it's capitulation to an authoritarian regime. Hmmm mm hmm. And I says he's determined to fight this with everything we have, which he doesn't really have much anymore because they took us away. But and the Ice block app was sort of this crowd sourcing app where if you saw Ice operating someplace, you would drop a pin, you would, you would tap the map and say, oh, Ice is here, and then people like Antifa they could then descend on that area and attack the Ice agents. Well, you know what, He's probably gonna find out what do sing looks like because the agents now know who it was that was behind. For all of this. Mm hmm. I'm just I mean, I'm just sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander. Indeed, do you call it sauce or is it gravy? Gravy is usually Sunday night dinner. Do you wait, do you say gravy as in tomato sauce? No, okay, it's I say sauce. Okay, yes, it's like sauce, sauce gardener, really really good talented saucy. Right, So like you, but you are of Italian heritage and that's a big thing, right, Like I had Italian people on my fan. Gravy was always big on with the Italians once upon a time. Right, And I didn't realize this. And they would serve tomato sauce and they call it gravy, and like, why is this gravy? This so all right? So here's a question for you, sir. Would you sit in a burning house for five hundred thousand dollars? No, even if it was for a YouTuber? No, even if they had like, you know, safety people and stunt teams and stuff, They're like, you just sit in the house while it burns around you. No, I'm not. I'm not that kind of guy. Man. It's just one of those things. Half a million dollars, How about a million? Nope? How about ten million? No, ten million dollars. I would do it for ten million dollars. I think you would. I think so Yac. Isaac would do it probably. I think Isaac would do it for like twenty grand? Whoa, what would you twenty grand? Yeah? Shots? Shots? Shots? Fy it? I don't know. I probably do it for a grand? Somebody? Is this a maybe? We'd we already knew what Isaac was we're just now settling on a price. So that's why, right, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt, going going twenty grand, ten grand in yeah, that area. But I didn't think he'd do it for a thousand because like, like, so this is for people who don't know who mister Beast is. He's like the biggest YouTuber. He's in North Carolina as a matter of fact, his name is Jimmy Donaldson. He goes by mister Beast and they do these types of videos and he does a lot of charity work and stuff he makes. He makes where is it here? He's got four hundred and forty one million subscribers on YouTube and they Forbes named him the top content creator on Planet Earth with earnings of eighty five million dollars. What does he do with all that money? He buys houses and sets them on fire. Oh that's awful, and he puts people in them. Now, this guy that they put in there was a stunt man. He was a professional stuntman, and they had a whole team around him. He put out this big statement saying it was all safe. But I was just curious if like you with no stunting experience, I have none, Menia, you would even do it for ten mil? I would Yeah, I would probably do it for a million. All right, that'll do it for this episode. Thank you so much for listening. I could not do the show without your support and the support of the businesses that advertise on the podcast, so if you'd like, please support them too and tell them you heard it here.
